I sure do have a lot of tree stories :P.

If you guys recall last year I told you the story of the trees growing right next to the house.  We knew we had to take them down but I kept them up one more summer.  We switched insurance companies and when they came out to take a look at the house they told us the trees had to come down, so poof - I channeled my inner George Washington (Fun fact:  That myth is a myth) and took the trees down.

I felt bad because I didn't really have time to prep the tree but - another part of the insurance inspection revealed we need a new roof.  We finally signed on the line with a contractor this weekend who is going to help us put metal down.

The reason I bring this up, we had what we thought was a stick and some tree rubbish on the roof.  It turns out we have a tree (a baby tree of the one we just removed) growing out of that pile of rubbish (and possibly off the shingles - going up to investigate Memorial day weekend when I have time)

That tree is going to get transplanted somewhere prominent and will be cared for as long as I live here.  I really did love the wild cherry tree we cut down!

@bluebelle I think you would really enjoy the book “ The Island of Missing Trees” by Elif ShaFak.  My daughter recommended it to me and it is one of those books that stays with you for days. It is a book I would read again. I loved this book.

@lenor Thanks, Lenor.  I hadn’t heard of that book, but will certainly get a copy (or download it as I am prone to do.)

@deetoo

This is a fascinating article that talks about consciousness of trees and plants. It explains, at least in part, how it is that trees talk to you, deetoo!

@raincloud I loved that article, thank you for posting it. I want to read more by Mancuso.  I feel the feelings and hear the messages coming from trees, and I am certain it is real. I know when I’m projecting and when I’m accurately discerning another person’s feelings. And I believe that I can feel trees in the same way, which is to say that trees do have feelings, and they do communicate.

@Bluebelle

Today I was listening to Loreena McKennitt (an incredible Celtic folk musician and composer) speak of one of her favorite songs, Bonny Portmore.  It's an Irish Folk song  which laments the demise of Ireland's old oak forests, specifically the Great Oak of Portmore or the Portmore Ornament Tree, which fell in a windstorm in 1760 on the grounds of  Portmore castle.

As she was speaking about this lovely song, she mentioned her love of trees and how  trees were  an integral part of Celtic life.  So integral in fact, the Celtics created an entire alphabet around trees. The Ogham, also known as the Gaelic or Celtic tree alphabet.

Its twenty letters, called feda (= ‘trees’), group into four aicme (= ‘family, tribe’) of five letters each. Each letter is simply a cluster of one to five straight lines, scratched along the (usually) vertical edge of a stone.”  It is read from the bottom up to the top (like a tree) and can be found on ancient stones.

Imagine, trees inspiring and ancient alphabet!  May they inspire us to all  live in a harmonic connection to our earth and one another.

@jeanne-mayell

Here are a few of my favorite Loreena McKennitt songs.  It is so hard to choose. By the way, she has written some songs from famous poems.  Lady of Shallot comes to mind. There are others as well.

I have always loved trees. Unfortunately, the pollen is bothering me more these days, but they do have nurturing and good energy. Perhaps i was a druid in a past life?
