Adding @lizzie to Coyote's thoughtful list.  Who else do we need to include?

Did anyone deal with tornadoes in their area?

A tornado touched down in the town of Dennis on Cape Cod, not far from @earthangel. Other than that isolated tornado, what was the storm like on the Cape, Earthangel?

@coyote Hi, we just now heard about Dennis F0 tornado on the news. They’re saying it may be categorized as a microburst. Either way, the 12:15 “tornado in your area” phone alarm that went off scared the Bejesus out of us. We stayed up til 3 for a 2nd warning til they verified it wasn’t near us on Outer Cape. We’re in Eastham. Thank you for checking in. Besides a large branch that came down and just missed my car, we fared well. Power outage on the bay side but that was fixed faster than expected. Some flooding of course but that’s receded by now. We had some thunder/lightning but not fierce. Torrential rain which we really needed out here, unlike other parts of Mass. Hard to believe that the Vineyard was in increased risk for a tornado. Fortunately, one didn’t touch down.

@Coyote, Here in Northern Virginia, which is right outside of DC, we were very fortunate.  Unfortunately Southwest Virginia seemed to bear the brunt of Ida, causing flooding and mudslides that destroyed entire homes.  Northern Virginia had heavy rains and some flooded streets and properties, but nothing of the magnitude of SW VA.  Some people lost power but we never did (which surprised me, since we often do).  Torrential downpours led to high water on a number of roadways leading in and out of DC, causing people to abandon their cars and road closures. There was also flooding in areas of Montgomery County, Maryland, which is in the DC-Metro area.  A tornado hit Annapolis, which caused significant damage.

By the end of yesterday, the skies began to clear.  It is beautiful here today – sunny, a cool breeze, very low humidity, mid-70’s-80.  It's very hard for me to reconcile the beauty of today with what occurred over the past few days, especially in those areas of the country that have been hit the hardest.

@coyote All is good here. I returned from my first vacation since the pandemic started on the following afternoon after the flooding. It was a challenge traveling from JFK into Manhattan with subways flooded. Thanks for asking. Hope everyone is well.

If you have been watching any of the news stations and they have been showing the small town Manville, NJ which has been destroyed by flooding and fires, that is the town where I grew up. The town is surrounded by the Raritan river with small creeks so flooding was quite common when I grew up there.  The worst hit was always a part of town called Lost Valley. I can’t count how many times that town has flooded but from what I am seeing on the news, this looks like the worst it has ever been. All my family and friends who still live there are all fine. Only one friend had to be boated out of their house.

@lenor

I have family in New Brunswick, and the flooding there from the Raritan is stunning. I didn't know about the situation in Manville until just now. That's frightening, being flooded out and then watching buildings go up in flames.

@coyote I was fine. My dad's workplace cellar was flooded and took half a day to pump.

Thank you Coyote! I also hope you are well too! A state trooper near me was swept away (his cruiser at 3am in Woodbury) and he passed. I pray for his family and everyone who is enduring this crazy flooding and weather we are all experiencing. Many blessings to you.
