Viral Resurgences, Vaccines to get, Precautions to have.

@ana Thanks for reminding people. I got mine at a CVS pharmacy a few weeks ago.  No issues with it. Last year my former primary care doctor, (emphasis on FORMER), who keeps FOX news on all day in her lobby, told me not to get any more RNA covid vaccines because she felt they were leading to women getting shingles.  She is not scientific in how she decides what is medically true, however. Worried about her advice, I held off getting a booster and ended out getting covid, which not only made me very sick, but may have left me with some lingering effects, although it's unclear.

Covid is not a virus that you want to mess with.

It's from a bat!

I don't believe it jumped naturally to humans.  There is convincing evidence it was coaxed to succeed in humans in a Wuhan lab, which makes it even more likely to play havoc on humans. They still don't know how this bat virus impacts some human bodies long term. It's great if you had covid and are fine. But don't mess with the new versions of it.

Covid is worse than the vaccine.

If you believe in science, the vaccine has been shown by experts I know and trust, to be far safer than getting the disease.

I have a friend in my town who is an intense health data geek.  She has taught at Harvard School of Public Health for many years. She is not connected with big Pharma in any way.  She's one of those geeks who cannot stop dealving into data.  She knows what the data is telling us.

When I asked her last year about the safety of the vaccine, she sent me reams of information on impacts of the vaccine for days until I had to ask her to stop.

The bottom line?

The Covid vaccine is the most studied vaccine in vaccine history, and it has been found to be safe.  Yes, there are highly sensitive people who have reactions and they have so much data on people's reactions that it could fill ten warehouses. Okay, I'm done. Get vaccinated.  :-)

Regarding shingles vaccination, some good news.

Study strengthens link between shingles vaccine and lower dementia risk

@Westie, Thanks for finding this. I got that vaccine once in 2012 and then forgot I'd gotten it, and got the newer one in 2023.  Dementia has to be the worst thing, so am glad to see this Wales study.

@jeanne-mayell  I got the new version of the Covid vaccine a few weeks ago (Pfizer), at the same time as the flu vaccine. Barely any reaction. I will keep getting them as long as they're offered.

It's interesting that the anti-vax propaganda does work, even in subtle ways, because for years (pre-Covid) I held off on getting any vaccines without even realizing that the propaganda was working on me. It's ironic that now the anti-vax movement has turned me into a turbo-vaxxer, lol. If there's a vaccine out there and reputable sources recommend it, I've either gotten it or it's on my to-do list.

I received my COVID and Flu vaccines this year in the same arm at the same time - and no reaction :-)  I am convinced it's a combination of this and my ridiculous fasting bouts that I haven't (knock on wood) gotten taken down by an illness in a good long while.

I got my flu and covid booster last month. As always for me, (thank you god!) no side effects at all.

I got my covid vaccine on Monday, with barely any side effects.

I'll be getting my flu vaccine in another week. I've tended to react to that one more strongly in the past so I didn't want to get them together.

I'll also be able to get the RSV vaccine too, so I'll get that one two weeks after that.

I'm grateful to be part of the west coast health alliance which allows me to get easy access to the vaccines. I'd rather train my immune system with these vaccines that leave it to getting the full blown bug itself.

I will also add two more things:

I stopped eating sugar in June of 2024 and it has done wonders for my asthma and immune system! While it can be challenging at first, if you're wanting to give yourself a health advantage I recommend it.

Also, they found evidence of measles in the waste water in Oregon. Just sharing as a PSA in case that's helpful info for anyone.

I got my Flu and COVID (booster?) vaccine last week.  I don't mind getting the shot, as they have candy for a job well done.  I had no adverse effects, although my spouse felt like she'd been hit by a truck. 🤔

I will welcome the day, when there is a sense of 'normalcy' about vaccines and preventative medicine.  Do you want to look and sound like 'Mr. RK Jr.'?  I would think not, so get vaccinated. 😆

Just for fun:  A radio announcer said "I believe in being over-protected. So when I got a shingles vaccine today,  to be on the safe side, I also got the vinyl siding".
