@rick I’m going to suggest that there isn’t a lot of worry about the races here in California. As with the entire country, our voter turnout will be massive this year. Even Orange County, which is traditionally a Republican stronghold, has been shifting left in the past few elections and I’d predict it will have a left-leaning jolt this year. The “No Kings” rallies throughout the state were massive yesterday.
Yesterday was no Kings day and it was the biggest turnout in American history. it was not just a protest, but it was an education to help voters be sure they are registered and to get them to help other people whose registrations may have been purged from the rolls. this effort is the kind of effort needed for the Dems to win the midterms and for the democracy to be restored. we cannot just rely on our Congress men and women to turn this around it has to come from the people themselves and yesterday was a triumph, but it’s only the beginning of what needs to be done.
We had 4000 people at the rally here in a city of approximately 150,000. There were several other well-attended rallies in smaller towns.
We had almost 2,000 in a community of 30K, an excellent turn out especially with wind chills below freezing. I don’t know if the White House is watching but perhaps members of Congress are.
Hi TomA, thanks for the reply!! Yes, No Kings rallies were absolutely HUGE!! Congress was actually starting to panic - which is good thing (they could stop all this right now by commiting to a certain president's impeachment and removal, they choose not to, denoting complicity). The whole thing of No Kings turnout, even the recall Newsom campaigns and prop 50 campaign, and huge nationwide left wing voter turnout is what makes this so wonky and wierd. On the second recall Newsom campaign, Gavin was more popular coming out of it then he was going into it! Polls showed prop 50 having roughly 54-55% of the vote (in the end, it had darn near two-thirds).
I am actually not scared, but cautiously optimistic, yet confused. I don't believe the two top repubs will win, at least not at this point. I am just warning that California has its primary on June 2nd (forgot to put that in the original post - sorry)
1. There doesn't seem to be lot happening. June 2nd is just barely 2 months away. That is not a lot of time. I have not seen any Porter or Swalwell ads, nothing in my mail, no signs, billboards, nothing. That is a problem. We usually start seeing all this at least three months prior to our primary. There are state assessor and judge billboards around, and have been for about a month, but nothing for governor. I am confused as to why not.
2. Polls are showing Swalwell is lower than that of the two repubs (Bianco and Hilton, both Trumpers). On the Dem side, it is overcrowded (8 democrats running) and nobody wants to drop out. Meaning unless at least 5 of them drop out within the next 3-4 weeks (before ballots are mailed out), It is possible a dem might not even be on the ballot after the June 2nd California primary. For our primary, the top two winners move forward to the November General election for California, regardless of party affiliation. So yes, with the No Kings rallies, people will vote democrat for California governor...
But which one?
If it's spread across too many dems (8 total because nobody wants to drop out), the vote is split and none of them win for (even one of) the top two spots in our pirmary. The possible result: The 2 Trumper repubs face off in November. That's the issue.
I learned very young not to take anything for granted and not to assume.

Resistance is NOT futile!!
As many of. you know, one or two days after the 2024 election I posted about how I kept hearing and seeing the word Resist and Resistance is NOT futile. I also saw the Alt National Park symbol with Smoke the Bear. I had been following the ATL NPS since day one of 45's Admin when the real NPS contradicted 45's Inauguration count and tweeted the actual number which was much lower than his announced number. (The NPS is in charge of the National Mall area.)
So recently, the ALT NPS has placed great effort rallying the troops (that would be us). The most resent target is the decimation of the US Forest Service. 57 research stations in 31 states are set to be destroyed with decades of irreplaceable research infrastructure gone forever. All 10 regional offices shuttered. 15 Political appointees will replace the entire regional leadership. Each one embedded with political lobbyist and state governments who want to mine, drill and log on public land.
The ALT NPS has been on it.
They have requested the public contact all business who cater to outdoor activities. With only a few days of effort, major brands have spoken out including Patagonia, REI Co-Op, Black Diamond, Orris, and Columbia Sportswear. Additionally a total of 70 brands have now signed on to The Conservation Alliance efforts (which today officially joined the ALTNPS effortst) to bring attention to this horrific catastrophic plot.

Thank you for the call for action. The Forest Service seems so essential that it is mind boggling that "they" are dismantling it.
A sharply reduced Forest Service relative to an upcoming wildfire issue alone, makes it alarming. I hardly need note how massively destructive wildfires are but just today I heard a lecture asserting that new research reveals that wood smoke pollution from wildfires accounts for a large percentage of the emissions that damage human health. Sadly, I think this summer will show the folly of the dismantling of this Service as smoke plumes engulfs large swaths of the US. I would love to be wrong.
