@journeywithme2 Best wishes for all to find the help needed. Those who have job insecurity, lack insurance, housing, mental health issues, etc., are such a vulnerable group. The odds are stacked against them, especially if the person doesn't want help, believe me I know.
Lots of love to you dear Journey! May your son find his path to a brightly lit future. May there be many blessing which come from this accident and may your heart heal.
Oh Pat I'm so sorry for your loss.
What you wrote was really beautiful and touched my heart as a mother.
@raincloud thank you for those words and thoughts. Uninsured and not enough income for that kind of care. Mental health programs to help have long ago fallen to the wayside here in Georgia.
The best we can hope for is Zoom online counseling ... which seems to be the way of the future.... low overhead so practitioners can make a living without the "office overhead".
I am just heartsick. I can not love him well. He has to want this... he has to act... I can not do it for him. He has to want it (he says he does) he has to take the actions... I can give him info ... leads for seeming help... but... he has to be the one to take action and do it. I know this. My mothers heart is filled with hope, with fear, with sadness, with love.... but none of that will do anything unless he chooses to act for himself.

That's true. One simple thought, there was a study of people with obsessive compulsive disorders who were shown their abnormal brain scans. They experience relief at understanding that they were not at "fault;" their brains were wired differently. I wonder if it would help your son to fully understand the physiology of addiction so he knows what must change. Dopamine depletion in the brain takes six months to replenish. During that six months, people experience "anhedonia," which means no pleasure. The lack of the ability to feel much pleasure for months makes the slog to sobriety tougher, but, if one knows there will be relief, it can help them to keep going. Just a thought, but knowledge is power and it might help him navigate a difficult path.
@raincloud He had a closed head brain bleed from a MVA at age 16. It was in the left frontal lobe ... the part of the brain that controls social behavior, impulse control etc. He was a preemie birth and has SLD ... dyslexia and ADHD. Also ... genetic components - alcoholics/drug addicts on both sides of lineage.
I pray he is able to overcome all of these challenges.
I also pray he is able to get a good local lawyer ( here in our red red county of good old boys) that is able to help him as well as and this doesn't ruin his future.
@raincloud I thank you for prayers.... I believe our prayers are heard and answered and I am thankful for all prayers Light Love and Healing 🙏🏻💜🪽💚🪽💜🙏🏻

^this^ is probably the #1 reason that people fall off the wagon, even when they really do want to change. It might even take longer than 6 months. One thing for sure, folks who fall into addiction are not "bad" people. Often they are the kindest ones. But that is also the thing that makes it so hard for them in this world. Journey, I am late to this thread, but I am praying for you and your boy. I do know of some strategies to fight off the dopamine deficit, and would be happy to share them with you, if you would like.
❤️
@journeywithme2 asking @jeanne-mayell to give you my contact info so that we can talk about it
Update: did some research on dopamine depletion and ADHD and "self-medicating" ... never heard contact info from you Unk-p but did take the bit in my teeth and ran in to research...so thank you!!! have gotten him some good nutrients to aid with that and precursors the body uses to make dopamine.
I have for continued prayers, healing energy,Light and Love for him and us.
Thank you Forum family - for everything.
@journeywithme2 I did email Jeanne to ask her to give you my contact info. She might not have seen it yet?
That wreck looks horrifying. How is your son doing now?
@unk-p He knows God and angels had their hands on him... that seatbelts save lives... that he still has purpose and cause to still be here in this world...and... that it's a wake up call. He has reached out to AA and other resources for help. He is committed to cleaning up his mess. I am not interfering, nor rescuing.... only given help when specifically asked for it... not doing the things he needs to do for himself.
Yeah... the sight of the vehicle in daylight was terrifying... sobering...got down on knees and gave thanks.
With so much going on I am sure Jeanne has not had time to forward yet. I thank you for your time and consideration and giving me the inklings I needed to dive in and research and get for helping nutritionally.
I thank this entire Forum for the prayers and ask that they be ongoing... lots of support needed to see this one through and we are most thankful for all Help and Protection.
Thank you, thank you!!!
I have to add this too ... both he and I ... are beyond thankful ... that no one else was harmed... that it was just him on a back country road with a cowpasture and fence that stopped his rollover after about 4 complete revolutions... it would have been beyond devastating to have caused harm to another, innocent and traveling that road.
That steep embankment, extreme heat and tires and heavy load that shifted ... would have made any other vehicle as destroyed as his was.
Dear Community, please send light to my dear friend Lemonia, who has been struggling with endometrial cancer now for two years and now is in ICU in what may be her final hours. She is a brilliant PhD physicist, humble, loves her dogs, and she ran our local community garden for 20 years.
Please send prayers that she is free from suffering, that her 87 year old mother can be at peace about it, and strength to her younger brother Konstantine, who has been bearing it all up.
Lemonia is from Greece. When she graduated from university, her brilliance was so apparent, that U.S. universities actively recruited her to bring her here. Her whole family decided to relocate with her. They are a strong supportive family and have been taking care of her during this last year of illness, after every clinical trial failed. To know her is to love her.
- @jeanne-mayell Oh Jeanne!!!! So sad to hear this!!!! 🙏🏻💜🪽💚🙌💚🪽💙🙏🏻 Prayers for the Highest Good for all concerned. May her chosen exit point be a peaceful transition in to the Light. May the Great comforter hold her mother and brother close as they grieve her loss and celebrate her life. May her brother adopt her dogs as they and he grieve her loss and be comforted by each other. Calling in the Light and beings that assist in these matters . Amen .
@journeywithme2 Thank you, sweet friend. Your prayer brought much needed tears. I've been carrying this situation as well, and you and this community are such a comfort.
Tagging @lovendures with gratitude for saying prayers for her, and @deetoo, @bluebelle.
