Thank you very much Jeanne.  It also has occurred to me that maybe the alone time would be good for him in the long run.  I read some Eckhart Tolle last night and am trying to hang onto the "now" but it isn't easy.

So just to follow up, my son went back to his apartment today because all three of his housemates ended up testing positive.  None have been significantly ill and all are on the mend.  So there was really no point in him continuing to isolate himself from the housemates. He's only had a slight runny nose and slightly sore throat.  No headache, no fever, no coughing, no aches and pains.  Thank you all for your good thoughts.  I feel much more at ease now that he's back in town.  (Also I tested negative this morning and that was a weight off my mind.)

@coyote

You have my best wishes for a good outcome.

It’s only a couple more weeks and you can’t do anything about that, so no point in worrying.

 So instead of trains, planes and automobiles, maybe canes, walking frames and hiking sticks. Decorate that bike helmet and wear it. Drag out that sumo suit for bouncing right back up. Have a whole lot of sitting going on. Binge watch that show, chill out, the time will go. Take care of yourself.

best wishes

I think it is generally very good advice, @coyote.  There's not much you can do about the situation but wait and make the most of the "now".

I would, however, suggest you not be a complete couch potato.  When I was laid up with a broken ankle last year I looked up "chair exercises" that could be done while sitting.  I did them so I could keep my blood moving and prevent my muscles from completely atrophying. (If I don't get my blood circulating vigorously for at least a few minutes every day I start feeling terrible.  I think it helps clean out the body's waste products and brings nutrients and oxygen to all the small capillaries.)

Whatever you can do that is safe will help you be more fit and prepared for the procedures to come. And getting the blood flowing may also help your frame of mind.

@coyote sending angels to steady your balance and keep you on even keel. And to strengthen you in the coming weeks and when that surgery comes, sending angels to make it a perfect day for all involved, and great time of healing for you.

To make a very long  story short, the day was going well until my 25 daughter visiting for the holidays and I went for a walk with our dog this morning.

At the end of the walk, a pit bull escaped their yard, ran down the street and viciously attacked our 48 pound dog in the throat.  The dog latched on and would not let go.

The ER vet finally was able to see him after 9 hours. ( there is a vet shortage in my city and the vet ER was slammed with major traumas today and so was our regular vet.). Our dog was stable while other dogs at the ER were critical.

Our boy is doing well,  only 2 punctures on his throat and shoulder and we are awaiting a scan and a test to make sure his kidneys can handle the meds and that there is no unseen damage.

I know we were protected and blessed beyond belief during this experience.  The pit bull could have attacked my daughter or me and our dog will be ok.  My daughter's screams alerted the owner to what was happening and he ran out to find me wrestling with his dog on the ground trying to get her to stop the attack. The owner eventually chocked his dog to get her to stop (he couldn't pry the dog's mouth loose) and I gouged the dog's eye with my thumb at the same time.

My knee is sore  from hitting the rocks and concrete and rolling around on the ground trying to save my dog but it will be ok .  My daughter is traumatized by the experience and spent much of the day sobbing, she was holding his leash when the other dog came up from behind us.  I am grateful my dog has thick fluffy fur which likely lessened the impact of the bit.

I miss my sweet boy and can't wait until we can pick up him up and give him lots of love and care.

It has been a long day but we are blessed beyond belief and we know it..

@lovendures   Oh no, how traumatic.   I am thankful that everyone's physical injuries were relatively minor.   It will be OK.  Breathe.  Visit your puppy as much as feasible.  It will be OK.
