I get that Lily enjoys her comforts, @jd1960 as well as her independence and seems to be drawn to a calm environment, without disturbances and loud noises. It feels that she would prefer to be a one and only house pet for the simple reason that she doesn’t like being annoyed and having her comfort disturbed. Did she have a traumatic early life or had an upsetting event in her past? It feels like something in her past upset her and this is why she loves her present comfort. Does her purring vacillate between high and low? She’s a lovely kitty and loves her humans as well as the attention she receives from them.
Does anyone get a sense on whether Cobalt would enjoy another cat playmate? @jeanne-mayell ? I was wondering because of the loneliness....He has herpes though, so I don't think I can get another cat because he would give it to the other cat (and Cobalt is SUPER expensive with all his herpes med needs)
@seaholly Yes, when she was a kitten she was separated from her family during an East Coast hurricane, and was found by someone involved in pet sitting & adoption! That led to us finding her at a local pet supply store, where she picked us by placing her paw on my wife's arm as we were looking at the cats up for adoption that day. She has a unique purr that sometimes includes a bit of her voice, if that makes any sense.
Lately she has been having issues with excess scratching & itching. Have tried a popular food supplement and it seemed to help somewhat. We are in NM where the air is very dry lately, so that does not help. She does enjoy listening to music with us a couple of nights a week, and likes her afternoon naps on a sunny windowsill...
Here are my two kitties. Note the expressions as they realize they were not invited to the cookout!
The kitty on the left looks annoyed. However, the general vibe I get is that they're not terribly miffed at being left out of the party as long as they can still watch the goings-on.
@michellepazicni Sorry for the delayed reply. I hadn't notice that you had tagged me. yes I think he's like a companion but you'd have to introduce them to each other s-l-o-w-l-y. Also there is the herpes issue which I hadn't even known cats could get. So I'd check with a vet and whoever is offering the new kitty. Moral dilemma.
@jeanne-mayell oh gosh, no worries at all! I know we all are busy and have lives! I appreciate your response!
Oh, this sounds interesting. I have two cats myself Luna and Stella. Luna (the black oe) is around 8 now and Stella around 4-5. Sorry but their ages always leave my mind since both of them are my beloved stiky babies.
@polka From Luna I get a "Daria" style vibe. She has a way of letting you know what she likes and dislikes in a dry, calm way. She also puts off vibes of being very, very wise.
Stella on the other hand has very sweet and gentle eyes. There's some timidness there but ultimately the playful side takes over.
What is Luna like when strangers are over? I get the sense that she doesn't trust right out the gate (I also get that Stella might be more open to strangers visiting) - Luna will watch from afar until they sum a visitor up, where Stella would betray her caution for a thrown toy or some catnip.
I also get that Stella is chattier.
All of this is in the eyes for me.
@dannyboy You are spot on about Stella :D She's a very sweet kitty. Luna being similar to Daria is also kind of right, but she's the more vocal one (especially when it comes to show her displeasure) but as you said, she likes to put on the vibes.
You absolutely right about the strangers, with both of them. They tend to run to my room and to me when someone new is visiting.
Thank you for your take on them.
