Yes, today gave me some hope. Even though it will take a long time. Even though many of us may die before we see it, we can be sure the change will come.
I loved being a part of a much smaller march in my hometown; it was more akin to a grandma and stroller brigade of friends and family. Everyone was relaxed and easily let the teens who set it up run the show. The teens were so excited and proud of themselves. Nobody showed up to spout off negative anything; someone carrying a flag just ended up melding into the scene, like a part of the community we represented. Participating in the march dissolved all of the brewing frustration and anger that got so many of us there, because it was so much more about healing, restoring, and building community around youth. Can't help but add that there were oodles of single old guys looking around at the possibilities they weren't finding on match.com. Spring has come!
Awesome Laura! I think we had about the same number in Denver. And it was fantastic. There was an incredible amount of determination in the crowd. Of course, we had local survivors from Columbine, and Aurora highschool, and the movie theater. It's personal to many here - and personal to way too many in our nation. I see the change coming though. This time is different.
