Did no one here ever have Jell-O shots, even in college? One good way to use Jell-O.
Slightly off topic, but does anyone (maybe @JourneyWithMe2 ?) have a good southern banana pudding recipe? I scored a box of Vanilla Wafers and feel like they could be put to good use in such a dish!
@baba. Original Nilla Banana Pudding
Ready in: 60 mins.
Layers of Nilla wafers, creamy pudding and fresh banana slices
are the stars of this American classic.
3/4 cup sugar, divided
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
Dash salt
3 eggs, separated
2 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
45 NILLA Wafers, divided
5 ripe bananas, sliced (about 3 1/2 cups), divided
Additional NILLA Wafers and banana slices, for garnish
1. Mix 1/2 cup sugar, flour and salt in top of double boiler.
Blend in 3 egg yolks and milk. Cook, uncovered, over boiling water,
stirring constantly for 10 to 12 minutes or until thickened. Remove
from heat; stir in vanilla.
2. Reserve 10 wafers for garnish. Spread small amount of custard
on bottom of 1 1/2-quart casserole; cover with a layer of wafers
and a layer of sliced bananas. Pour about 1/3 of custard over
bananas. Continue to layer wafers, bananas and custard to make
a total of 3 layers of each, ending with custard.
3. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form; gradually add remaining
1/4 cup sugar and beat until stiff but not dry. Spoon on top of
pudding, spreading evenly to cover entire surface and sealing well
to edges.
4. Bake at 350°F in top half of oven for 15 to 20 minutes or
until browned. Cool slightly or refrigerate. Garnish with
additional wafers and banana slices just before serving.

This is the one I use and grew up on. It's delish!
@JourneyWithMe2 Thank you for the quick response! I’m going to get right to work on that. It seems like a fitting pre 4th of July recipe!
@baba You are most welcome.. let me know how you like it when you get it made and eat it.
@journeywithme2 I tasted all the individual pieces, so I think I will love it. It brings me back to childhood family gatherings where someone always brought this pudding! Thanks again!
@baba That is it! Childhood memories are best smelt and eating :-) Hugs and Enjoy every bite! You are most welcome!
@brightopal I just loved your story. Thanks so much for sharing this with us! I love seeing you on YouTube and am so proud of you for fulfilling your dreams!
I don't know if anyone here has addressed 'dressing' your sandwich yet. While I'm from Missouri and had a German mom my culinary palette was extremely limited growing up. Lots of hot tea with milk and toasted pumpernickel w a good muenster. When I started traveling for work in the Carolinas and Georgia I came upon the habit of topping ones sandwich with coleslaw. Hot dogs, pulled pork. burgers, it didn't matter. All were dressed w slaw.
The other southern delicacy I still enjoy is a sausage biscuit w strawberry jam. I've seen people mistakenly use plum preserves or grape but I do believe strawberry to be my favorite.
