Wow!  The Atlantic Hurricane map is getting full.

2 named storms, a tropical depression and 2 yellow X's.  One of those X's is predicted to materialize into something in the Gulf Coast...because why not right???

Meanwhile in AZ, the weather thinks it is Mid July.   117 in Phoenix yesterday breaking records again.  This is unheard of this time of year.  It felt like an oven this morning.  That shouldn't be the case.

As of this morning, 9/30/24, there is a new storm/potential hurricane brewing named Kirk. Keeping an eye on it here in SW Florida. Landfall expected Sat - Monday Oct 5-7 or so.

Also, to the folks who are suffering the terrible heat in Phoenix, the temps in Florida have been record breaking as well this summer. I am very disheartened to read that it has been 117. When is the monsoon season there?

The NHC has Kirk headed out to the north Atlantic, or the northeastern coast: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at2.shtml?start#contents

 Maybe you are thinking of the disturbance lurking off the coast of Central America- the birthplace of Helene? Some meteorologists have been concerned it might behave like Helene.  I get a newsletter from the Weathertiger ; here is a link to his blog commentary on this: https://open.substack.com/pub/weathertiger/p/tropical-update-note-for-september

Update: WeatherTiger just sent out another update.

https://weathertiger.substack.com/p/when-september-ends-hurricane-watch

  He is not seeing anything of major consequence out there at present.  He thinks there is a chance of the Central American system developing, but " the dominant impacts of any storm would be primarily rain for the eastern half of the Gulf Coast, especially peninsular Florida".  There is a new system developing off Cape Verde but he does not see that as particularly dangerous, either.

Major damage to many coastal homes and buildings in zone A sea level to 7 feet. A lot of storm surge. Highest surge in 103 years since the 1921 Tampa Bay Hurricane. A lot of neighbors homeless and devastated- I live in st Pete close to the water. My parents place where I stay was ok just barely above the water. The wind was very strong to- the airport in St. Petersburg measured 82 mph. By far the strongest hurricane I’ve ever experienced in 36 years on this earth.

the weather models show another tropical cyclone forming in the Caribbean and gulf and heading east towards the Florida peninsula bringing some very heavy rain and some gusty winds next week- but the winds and surge should be less than Hurricane Helene’s wind and surge.

@lowtide

Thank you for thinking about me.  Actually, I live exactly in the middle of Knoxville and Chattanooga (one and a half hour each way).  Thankfully, we bore the storm pretty well compared to other areas.  We had some regional flooding of a few inches, several sinkholes that washed out two roads, and several downed trees.  Compared to areas like Ashville, NC, we got off light.  Also, my own home got through unscathed because we took precautions years ago to ensure our creeks would not overflow.

Currently, many of us are sending aid packages to surrounding areas and are keeping tabs on the possible storm that may come next week.  We don't have much rain forecasted in the next few days, which helps.

If truth be told, our biggest crisis during the storm was that one of our goats, Greta, had triplets.  Bad timing, but what can we do?

Please continue to pray for our area, and thank you for being so considerate.  I hope everyone else is doing ok.

Well, that was a surprise to read.  haha.  Did you name them?  They need names after an arrival like that.  And triplets to boot! Congratulations!

P.S.  So happy to hear you are well and save.
