@lovendures I don’t think we have it’s a record breaker. Andrew was the first storm of 1992 and was a category 5 but that year was much quieter Andrew didn’t occur until late August.

Report!  We've got us a little hurricane down here in North Florida.  Debby is just barely hurricane strength and making landfall around the small fishing village of Steinhatchee (Interestingly, Jimmy Carter used to take his family to Steinhatchee for fishing trips. I just remembered that while typing.)

I live about 60 miles inland.  We are having a lot of rain--off and on- and occasional gusty winds.  There is some flooding along rivers and near the coastlines.  Overall, in terms of rain and wind intensity Debby feels much like the usual afternoon summer thunderstorms that pop up every few days-- But tropical systems do cause more damage mainly because they take their time passing through whereas the summer storms are over in a few hours.  And of course, the coasts bear the brunt of the wind and tidal surge with a tropical system.

I love these little, less-harmful storms.  They replenish the aquifer, clean the air, and just generally refresh the whole local environment.  Plus they're cool to watch.

Wasn't bad here in Tampa Bay. At least not where we are.

This storm center has left Florida, but it's now a very slow mover - predicted to linger over the GA and SC coasts until Friday. That translates into huge amounts of rain-- they are in for some major flooding.  I hope they are prepared.  🤨

I am in Naples these days, and the flooding is impressive to me, as I just came from the West Coast. I read that DeSantis removed 240 million of storm drain public works from the budget. Ron DeSantis Cuts Stormwater Flooding Funding Amid Florida Deluge (msn.com)

@westie @lowtide and @ana

Glad you guys are safe.  Sounds like a major flooding event in the Southeast.  Stay safe everyone still in the path of this dangerous weather event

Westie, DeSantis is a dangerous idiot.

I just read through all the latest predictions especially those involving hurricane season. Thank you everyone for all your insights on the predictions page. Fortunately it is quiet right now but I do agree with many on here that September and October will have many cyclones. I’ll be watching closely, we had a storm surge and wind damage from hurricane Debby- I live in St. Petersburg right by Tampa Bay, so wind and water often impact my family’s place the hardest and then diminish in impact as you head further inland into St. Pete, it did thousands in damage from wind to my parents house and pool area. I told my mom to wait until after hurricane season to get it fixed, since I know September is when we get our strongest hurricanes. Aside from that it’s been pleasant and quiet with no hurricanes since Debby.

The atmosphere has taken on La Niña and the formation of the Central American gyre in September and October will be in agreement with many predictions on here made this month- a storm which forms in the gyre west Caribbean tracks through Florida Georgia and through the Carolinas- again in line with Jeanne Mayell Prognostication- thus this is something. To watch closely.

Helene will become a major hurricane and cover a big area of Florida.  It is forecast to be one of the most aggressive hurricanes in history.

Stay safe all of you in her path and those impact by her rain in other states.
