Trump's Cult of Personality

In these Trump rallies, I have been seeing his hardcore supporters cheering him on from what they hear from him. I was thinking as Trump leaves, which I'm convinced after the 2020 election, his supporters will become violent and protest the inauguration. Asian is right, there will be change in 2022.

I don't look at the nitty gritty of American politics because I don't live there, but I'm interested in Trump and the White House because they're who decide US foreign policy, and that affects the whole world.

I agree there is a major issue with Trump's cult of personality in lots of places in America. It's made worse because it's completely tied up with America's cult of money. Too many people in the US sincerely believe that being rich automatically means that somebody has done everything right in their lives.

I'm getting a very strong impression that the coming month of June will be make or break for Trump. A lot of information is going to come out about the Mueller investigation and how things have been running in the White House, all very negative for Trump. The reaction from the White House will be very strong. I see two possible outcomes. The first, most likely, is that Trump resigns. He'll be effectively blackmailed into resigning, and told: "Resign, or you, Ivanka and Jared will spend a long time in jail." The second is that Trump resists successfully, aided by his hardcore supporters. The president has a lot of power, and Trump has been learning lately how extensive his power is.

If it's the second, it would be very bad news for the US, because it would mean that Trump has discovered how to sabotage the US constitution. The reason it can be done is because the US constitution isn't actually the document with that name, but the current interpretation of that document, which is very far from the original on several places, plus a number of other rules, some of them weaker laws (so, fairly easy to change), and some simply norms that were never codified into law. All previous presidents respected the constitution of their time, and sometimes changed it a little. But Trump is the first one that would be quite willing to throw away any part of it that doesn't suit him.

By the next 4th of July, it should be clear which way it has gone.

When you say next July 4th, what do you see? Many here say that the he will be silent after the midterms. I sense that the Democrats will have a simple majority of four or five seats. More likely Trump will finish his first term and losing 2020.

What I was seeing here was either a clear result out of the Mueller investigation, or what would amount to a clear victory by the Trump team. But lately I'm getting that the process is being delayed a bit. Just as I was waking up today, I heard a dream voice saying: "Trump will be done by the time the bright dog rises in New York". The "bright dog" made me think of Sirius, and I checked on astronomy sites: the heliacal rising of Sirius in New York is on 10th August. So by then I expect he'll be out of office. I sense that he'll be resigning (effectively, things will be laid out to him in such a way that his best option by far will be to resign).

I've always had a belief that Trump would resigned before being impeached but by August 10th? That's right around the corner! I wonder what would happen next? Would Pence take over or decide to resign as well? How would his voter base react?

Interesting summer, this is!

I hope so!  BTW, MDW, the Church of England was responsible for the evolution of Puritans.  Then, the Brits sent the whole danged lot of them this way, and we've never recovered!

Just realized that I let my anti-Trump feelings dominate my interpretation. "Trump will be done" could mean that he's out of office... or done with the Mueller investigation and finally got rid of that. And my feelings now is that it's going to be the second. Which also would fit with this month being the "make or break" time for Trump.

I guess only time will tell, but it isn't looking good to me now.

Good moment to bump up this thread, to point out that with the last Mueller indictments, it could well all be over for Trump by August 10th as my dream voice said.

I feel things will be moving very fast now. People have been orchestrating things behind the scenes. It's no coincidence that Trump's visit to the UK and his meeting with Putin happen so close to each other. When the meeting with Putin is over I'll explain why, but I wouldn't want to spoil things by saying too much.

I'm bringing this thread up for an update: Now I'm feeling that Trump finished by beginning of August means that's when Mueller is finished with the investigation. But then he has to trigger the correct legal procedures. This will take a little while to process, until beginning of October, I feel. Which means that the mid-terms will happen with the background of news coming from the Mueller team. That will help the Democratic Party a lot, but I still can't see whether they will get a majority or not.

It really is a cult. They first deny any wrongdoing from him, then when it's revealed he did, they try to justify it. Facts don't matter. It's maddening. Friends and relatives have turned into foaming-at-the-mouth cult members, basically, and Trump is "sent from God."

Even when he's gone, how will they finally "see the light?" Will they ever?

I keep hoping that the truth, all of it, will come out into the light. I am hoping that part of the truth would be for supporters to see

everything in the light of day, and realize. But I'm not sure that could or would happen. Even if supporters never come around, if Trump is gone

at least more damage can't happen? I so wish Twitter would block him. That would be such a relief.

First, carrola, welcome.  I've enjoyed reading your posts this morning.

Personally, I hope Twitter never blocks Trump.   His tweets, while inflammatory, do put a lot of his thinking and actions on public record, and they also alert Americans and the world as to what is truly going on behind the scenes in a way that formal statements from the White House would not.

The president's twitter feed is sort of like an early warning system for how high the danger level is at any particular time.

I go back and forth between wanting to ignore his tweets and reading them, and I've decided that it is better to know just how out of control he is than to pretend that all is well.

Twitter had the discussion about blocking him a long time ago, and they decided against. Basically, the more well-known you are, the more you can ignore their policies. For the US president, he could say literally anything he wanted, up to and including threats to kill people, I suspect, and they wouldn't block his account.

If you look up info about Nixon, his supporters really believed he was a fine man, up till the end. It was only after he resigned and all the information was explained in great detail, that eventually just about everyone came to see that he really was a liar. I expect the same will happen with Trump. Eventually, his supporters will come to see he's a liar... but it may take a long time, even as long as they need to forget they were among the people who voted for him.

I might be in the minority with this opinion, but since he is a sitting U.S. President, I don't think his Twitter should be blocked nor deleted. All of that should be public record and it could possibly be used against him in the investigation and it will be a goldmine historical resource for any future president historians.

Maria, what with the Cohen tapes dropping, and Cohen's trial being set to begin next week in the 'rocket docket'--trial anticipated to be three weeks long--so many revelations will be coming so fast from that trial that I believe mid-August will indeed mark the moment when Trump's exit will be assured.

Of course it may take longer than that to formally eject him, but my sense of it concurs that the tide turns around August 10-20.

Something else: I have a feeling that Mike Pence is also implicated in Trump's ties with Russia, in spite that he's been keeping a rather low profile.

No doubt.  Mike Pence is hugely involved with and supported by the NRA and evangelical organizations.

Given all that has been revealed so far just from the Maria Butina spy case about how Russia used the NRA and evangelical groups to make inroads into the GOP, I would be shocked if Pence has no Russian connections.

It is Mike Pence's nature to fly under the radar.  He's not exactly an out-going guy.
