@deetoo, Thank You. Zoom and I don’t seem to be on friendly terms, and it isn’t a challenge I really want to conquer.
Considering I am new at this, reading all these separate posts makes me feel like someone who is talking too much. Would you tell me how to put all responses into one post? Navigating a new website is often a challenge for me, and posting in one even more so. Bear with me, I am still learning.
Yes @claire welcome! I was like you as well..... just reading the whole site and loving it! We are positive Warriors! Light workers one and all. I think in reality we are going ahead to pave the way. Mr Barr is a Clear and Present danger to our beloved Nation. The truth will out itself. Happy Earth Day everyone. Spelled another way.... Happy Heart Day.....the Earth is a Heavenly Body. ?
As someone once said here, we feel more in tune energetically when connecting with this Forum..

You are a kind soul, @claire. I found your individual responses very thoughtful. Rest assured, you're not talking too much!
Are you asking how to include a number of quotes from different individuals? I've only included, at most, two separate quotes from two individuals in one reply, mainly because I don't want my postings to be too lengthy or confusing. But I don't believe there are any fast or hard rules on it. If I'm not including quotes, then I'll sometimes reply to a couple of individuals in one posting. I usually include a quote if I want to highlight something that resonates with me, or to clarify my response to someone. And then there is always the "Like" button.
This is the first and only online community site that I've joined, so it took a little time for me too. I discovered this site in December of 2016, but didn’t get the courage to join until November 2018. Now you can’t shut me up. ?
Yes, @deetoo, I would like to know how to respond to other posters on the same page. (I haven’t quite figured it out. I had just discovered the “quotes” link earlier and was trying it out, if I seemed rather confused. I keep telling myself it is good to learn new things, even though I have no need to be disruptive while I do it!
Warning: long post with some links.
For a view of a better way to live, a Buddhist economics, take a look at the Schumacher Center. I am sure many of you remember the book by economist E. F. Schumacher, "Small is Beautiful: Economic as if People Mattered" --it is one of my favorite books and my copy is tattered, barely staying together.
In the mid-1970s, the phrase “small is beautiful” became a counterculture slogan against the industrial threat to the environment and the scarcity of resources. Arguing against excessive materialism and meaningless growth, the late Dr. Ernest Friedrich Schumacher—the author of Small Is Beautiful: Economics as if People Mattered, promoted the use of
small-scale technology to benefit both humankind and the environment. As an economist trained in a market oriented discipline, his thinking evolved from believing that large-scale technology could be salvation for
industrial civilization to believing that large-scale technology is the root of degrading human beings and the environment. https://www.unm.edu/~varma/print/BSTS_Schumacher.pdf
I had read books and essays by Wendell Berry and this brought me into a full circle.
I discovered the Schumacher Center for a New Economy:
"MISSION -
To envision a just and sustainable global economy; apply the concepts locally; then share the results for broad replication.
Founded in 1980 the Schumacher Center for a New Economics works to envision the elements of a just and sustainable global economy; undertakes to apply these elements in its home region of the Berkshires in western Massachusetts; and then develops the educational programs to share the results more broadly, thus encouraging replication.
We recognize that the environmental and equity crises we now face have their roots in the current economic system.
We believe that:
- a fair and sustainable economy is possible and that citizens working for the common interest can build systems to achieve it
- our natural commons are best held by the regional community
- money issue can be democratized
- ownership should be more diversified and that labor should have a part in the ownership structure
We favor the face-to-face relationships fostered in local economies. We deliberately focus on transformative systems and the principles that guide them."
- (read more here: https://centerforneweconomics.org/about/ )
I also had done some reading about The Catholic Worker history. Both these movements brought me to reading about Distributism. New Economics is kind of like a Crunchy Distributism, which while Catholic Social Doctine can be seen as an underpinning, it is independent of any religion --so I feel it is a more universal, unitary system for people of the religious, areligious and multireligious.... so if someone was at an evolutionary point to look at capitalism in a different way, and look at globalism/interdependence/localism in a different way that even the right could find value in this and even the left could embrace or at least acknowledge the value of the doctrine of subsidiarity:
a community of a higher order should not interfere in the internal life of a community of a lower order, depriving the latter of its functions, but rather should support it in case of need and help to co-ordinate its activity with the activities of the rest of society, always with a view to the common good.
I then found some really interesting information on Transition, transition towns, permaculture, the sharing economy, Blue Zones etc. There is so much! The biggest hole we have is a lack of community in the structure of our society and I really don't know answers to how to fix that (I am a nurse, not a trained community organizer). I would love to be part of a social movement that incorporates the principles of all of the above but it is just so.. big. And the world, our nation, or society so dug into the current system and so busy, too busy to look for alternatives for the status quo.
This post is already too long but I really wanted to share this as the discovery of which was the result of a lot of soul searching during the period of 2001-2008. But afterwards, I really didn't know what to do with myself and these ideas. I discovered I am village person, not a rural person (although I live in a suburb). It was really hard to find other people in real life that is engaged these ideas.
Well great. The mango moron has suggested investigating injecting a disinfectant to cure the virus. I just got home from the grocery and no Lysol to be found. Plenty of bleach but I can’t stand the smell. Can anyone say “25th Amendment? I hear Nancy is bringing new imbleachment charges!
Repost from the random predictions thread:
Last night I received a sudden vision of Mar-a-Lago and heard the words "chop shop." Then came a cascade of rapid images showing T's properties and possessions being seized, actioned off, and otherwise liquidated.
There was a humorous news bit about the supposed "golden toilet."
@vestralux Come to think of it, it looks like this could lead to the Trump family filing for bankruptcy, as seen in one of the readings that I couldn't find.
now he is not doing any more rallies I mean briefings cause of the horrible no good fake news media took his words and twisted them. He said he was being sarcastic and also playing a joke. I think he was doing the daily briefings because he was just jealous of Cuomo. Because people praised him and said he looked more presidential then him.
This opinion piece in WAPO which includes Republicans turning against him finally after the lysol remarks, is good. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/04/27/lysol/
Imagine that it took that to have some republicans turn against him. It boggles my mind. ?
The Republicans have been looking to curtail his briefings for a while now. They finally have done it. Imagine that it only took his Lysol and light comments to end it.
He is insane!! He said he spoke to governors today and is now suggesting that school should be open.
As states continue to roll out plans to reopen their economies, President Donald Trump told governors during a Monday phone call that they should also "seriously consider" reopening their schools.
Some of you might start thinking about school openings. Because a lot of people are wanting to have the school openings. It's not a big subject, young children have done very well in this disaster that we’ve all gone through," Trump told governors, according to a recording of the call obtained by ABC News. "So a lot of people are thinking about the school openings."
The president added the governors should "seriously consider" it and "maybe get going on it.”
Who are these people???
Trump said he hoped his own 14-year-old son would return to school. He added that he thought "the schools are going to be open sooner rather than later."
Pretty sure the mom is not on board with that. Is he tired of having his son around that he wants to open up the schools to get rid of him. It just shows you his “love” for his own child.
No matter what, Trump just won't stop being Trump. He will continue to bankrupt this country, show no empathy for victims, and attempt to punish his perceived enemies.
This is perfect. Because the majority of American voters now have Trump Fatigue.
Can you imagine having to listen to this maniac for another four years? I certainly can't, and neither can millions of other people. Even if Republicans get rid of voting stations, shorten early-voting or mail-in voting, or any other measure they chose to suppress the vote, IT WON'T MATTER!!!!! As we all know, the voters in Wisconsin bravely took to the booths at the personal risks to their own health to ensure that their judiciary doesn't continue to belong to right-wing fanatics. They are an inspiration to the rest of us, because they would not be intimidated or kept from voting Republicans out.
No matter what they do, Republicans are now attached to Trump, and as his prospects fall, they also fall. Seriously, what can they offer the people now? "Oh, so we have had the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, and the highest known death toll despite supposedly having a superior health care system. But if you give Trump another chance, we promise it will be worth it!"
Is having no job, no health care, watching the rich getting bailouts while we starve, and corruption run rampant at the federal level worth four more years of hearing Trump rant about his enemies and going on about how great he is?
Anyone who answers "yes" to the above question needs to ask if (1) they are secret Satanists because they thrive on racist and sexist ideologies where they must dominate everyone else, or (2) were dropped on their heads as babies and also spent time sniffing lead paint.
But we must also bless McConnell. Good old McConnell. Because McConnell is suggesting that states should declare bankruptcy.
Seriously? Big banks and companies were "TOO BIG TO FAIL" in 2008, but States should declare bankruptcy? Last time I checked, states were bigger than corporations, and they pay more taxes to the federal government than corporations ever did.
Why should Biden or any Democratic candidate do anything for the next two month? Trump and the Republicans will do the work for us.
Now, I am not saying we should be complacent. Just today, I spoke to one of my conservative Republican colleagues, who is no doubt embarrassed about the suggestion from Trump that Americans should drink bleach (or, as I reminded him, inject bleach into whatever opening he saw fit, as Trump was not specific.) ;)
Naturally, he did what all Trump supporters do. Deflect and blame someone else.
Today, he brought up the alleged rape allegations about Biden and asked why I would vote for a man who would rape a woman. Now, I don't know if the allegations are right or not, and I admitted as such. But I also pointed out to him that Trump bragged on tape about sexually assaulting women (you know what video I am referring to). I also pointed out that a woman who has accused Trump of rape has DNA that could prove or disprove her claim once and for all (Jean Carroll). Now, if Trump was so innocent, why would he not take the DNA test and prove Ms. Carroll is lying about him?
He didn't have an answer for that, so he went to the usual.-Hillary's emails.
I countered with-Trump's Clorox. I then asked him if Trump assisted Hillary in cleaning up her emails, seeing as how Trump knew so much about bleach.
Yes, I am smiling right now. Because it is so easy to trump a Trumper these days.
My point? The Trumptanic is sinking head first, and his supporters are struggling for seats on lifeboats only to find out that there are no lifeboats. The Republicans cannot control Trump or their own stupidity in their leaders. They will try everything possible to win now (intimidate us, try to keep us from voting, ramp up the usual hate speech and lies, and even project their own failings on their opponents). But if the last few years has taught us anything, it is that they can't stop us. And they know it.
I almost pity them.
@allyn well after promising myself that I wouldn't get involved in any political stuff on FB, I did tonight and was roundly trounced on by Trumpers. One of them said, I guess they haven't run out of Kool-Aid where you live. I told them all to go drink their disinfectant and leave me alone. I'm paraphrasing. I'm much more clever than that but I got off the board and didn't go back on.
I've stopped at Fox now and then. They are going hard on the Biden situation. Like a Larry King old video where the accuser's Mom called in for advice about her daughter having problems at work. She did not mention what problems, and did not mention any names. It can't be proved without names, so how can it be linked to Biden? I think every time they play an ad about this. Democrats should run the famous audio of trump. Sorry Billy Bush.
Alleyn and Suspira44-
I also 'got into it' recently with Turd supporters on facebook. What surprised me the most about these people is the ease with which they practice the 'art of gaslighting'! And, secondly, how they turn and twist my words to imply I personally called them horrible, despicable people, when, in actuality, I described these assets directly to Turd, not to them. (We certainly know who the REAL snowflakes are!) Anyone who ~still~ supports Turd, and I am NOT saying Republicans in general, because at this point, Turd IS the Republican party, but any supporters of the dictator-wanna-be is basically, a walking-zombie. I apologize in advance if my words affend anyone, and I recently took heat for saying this, but anyone who is A-OK with Turd, after ALL we have seen and heard from this man, isn't just NOT paying attention, rather, they are showing us they have ZERO empathy or compassion for anyone other than themselves, and thus, have zero morals or character. To turn a blind eye to Turd and his team of sadists, especially the terrible treatment of immigrants, gays, women, and the poor, is being complicit to these acts of deliberate cruelty.
Do you like how they say that they like T because he means what he says but when he says something that makes him look bad they are quick to defend him and say he meant...this and that. Its useless with them. Don’t argue with them. They are quick to have your account suspended by contacting FB. Saying you violated one of FB rules.
The person I 'got into it with' on FB said the media 'deliberately made false claims about what Turd said about the bleach, etc'. Then she turned my words around and said I said she was horrible, brain deal bla bla bla. It's unbelievable. And you are so correct - don't argue with these people - you can't 'win' and argument with them as they are too entrenched in their dogmatic beliefs, which includes the liberals are responsible for splitting apart the country because of their hatred of Turd. sigh
