Lately, I was reading the news from different sources and saw that the GOP is rising up against the Democrats. I saw that the Democrats are starting to lose their lead to 4 or 5 points. Some say that the GOP may keep the House. Jeanne, you are right about the House being a close call. But then, I heard that the anti-Trump voters are energized, but do not believe in Democrats. Does this mean that only time will tell?
Some while back, I predicted that Bernie Sanders would be having serious intent in running again in 2020...in the meantime, he has been doing big work inside the party. This will the manifest, and begin to show, in the midterms...but early days.......Clinton did a lot of damage to the Democrats, with her methods, that simply did not connect with the Sanders supporters, who bailed out when she got nominated. her machine politics did not help. The long term damage this has caused is now clear, its why the gap is narrowing. So GOP may get something of a reprieve. The main impact, however, is the pending war in the Middle East....that can have a huge effect,
Zoron, do you see in any way Democrats reclaim the house? I think that they will have a simple majority of four or five seats. I looked at Mueller and see that he will have damning evidence against Trump and the GOP, causing their reputation damaged or destroyed beyond repair. Back in 2017 I voted for the first time, instead of voting for Mayor de Blasio, I voted for Green Party.
Clinton won the popular vote. The Comey letter , Russian interference (including Russia's support of Jill Stein and the Green party), plus the normal American voters' desire to vote for change, even change in the party that sits in the White House, created a perfect storm that helped Trump cross the finish line. He would not have won otherwise. Let's not forget that. Most Bernie voters voted for Hillary. When she and Obama competed in the in the 2008 primaries, people feared that Hillary voters wouldn't support Obama and that fear never materialized.
I can respect other opinions about Hillary, and she had lots of flaws as a candidate, but I think the constant blaming is because she's a woman. If anyone is causing damage to their political party it's Trump, although for now we have to endure him.
Nothing intuitive here, just facts: Sanders hasn't left the Dem party yet, but will be doing so shortly. He is running for his same Senate seat and wants to do as he did before - as an Independent. Many of us are hoping he doesn't run for president again, as it means a loss to Twitler again for sure. And here's my anger rant for today: Had he had the magnanimity to accept the VP ticket slot that was offered secretly, Clinton would have won, for sure, despite Russian interference. Because he refused to take ONE step down, and support a WOMAN we wouldn't be here now. End of rant.
I think I understand what zoron is saying because neither of us is American we can see the fraud that the democratic party is. To keep it real my husband voted for hilary and had he not I would have divorced him. That said opposition to her is not simply because she's a woman, for the bernie people it's her record. Bernie Sanders has more integrity and honesty than the entire democratic party put together. He wasn't offered the vp spot, thats nonsense, and he did campaign for hilary and urge his voters to vote for her. What more he could have done I don't know. My concern is that those dismissing criticism of hilary as coming from a bigoted place are not listening to the real perspectives of her opponents, who are not all right wing lunatics. Had I been American I would have voted for her, but I would have done so with major qualms, knowing full well that her opponent was a monster.
What gets lost in all this is actual policy discussion, how are the politicians going to meaningfully improve the lives of their constituents. Hillary did not really run on policy proposals and she had an arrogance about her that was off putting. Bernie talked nothing but policy.
I personally am skeptical that we can save this political system, the corruption is too deep I think. I get my ideas from several authors whose voices I find impossible to ignore. An example of a few is: Chris hedges, noam chomsky, Naomi Klein, and others.
I hear everyone's points, and this isn't a prediction so maybe it doesn't belong on this forum, but I think it's worth mentioning that Hilary's limitations aren't lost on anyone, certainly not on me. The problems in the democratic party aren't either. What makes me angry is that Bernie (who I aways liked and like still) was never a democrat. Yet, once he decided to run as one, seemed to have a ton of white male privilege for a guy who'd always presented himself as a fair-minded socialist. Hillary, warts and all, has been a democrat since her college days. She is also from the generation of women who broke down barriers for women like me, and I'm grateful for that. What she flashy and fun and charismatic? Nope. But she reminds me of so many women I know, who do the hard work, take their lumps, and never get appreciation. And she did have policy proposals Natalie. The fact that you believe she didn't speaks to the way the media ignored her and covered that degenerate we now have in the white house. This is a major problem in how the news is presented in the US.
I don't think people who criticize Hillary are right wing lunatics at all, and certainly not the people on this site, who are big-hearted and who've been a lifeline to me in this past year and a half. But respectfully, as someone who's followed politics my whole life, the corruption has been caused by the right wing and the Republicans, not the left or the dems. The right wing judges decided Citizens United and gave us the amped-up money in politics we see today. The right gave us Nixon, Watergate, Reagan, Iran Contra, the dismantling of the safety net, the Iraq war, and housing crisis, two years of nonsense Benghazi investigations MEANT to depress Hillary's approval ratings, I could go on. The main problem with the dems is less corruption than their lack of extremism. You can't have balance without a counterweight, so you can't balance right wing extremism with center-ism.
Anyhow, enough of my rant. Peace to all, and blessings on his long weekend when we remember those who gave their lives doing what this country asked then to do, right or wrong. Let's hope there isn't a new war with more lives lost. xoxoxo
Laura, whether Sanders runs or not, I do not see him win. I then heard that Trump will not win in 2020 as his scandals will catch up with him. I then think that a moderate Democrat will win. During this time, there will be a rise of progressive movements.
I’m involved in the resistance against Trump so it’s hard for me to separate intuition from what I physically see and know ..Here is what I physically see in a Pennsylvania. First the state has been congressional redistricted based on a lawsuit. This takes away a huge advantage by the Republicans. The lawsuit verdict was challenged in the State Supreme Court and refused by the Federal Supreme Court and reviewde by a three judge panel that had been appointed by Republicans. Redistricting stood. Half of the people running here for Congress are women and progressive Democrats. There is a huge grass root organized effort that parallels to the Democratic effort against the Republicans . The Democrats are making use of this effort. There have been good results on the local level Nationally I know this is a similar model since we are linked through secret and private activist groups.
So here’s my prediction: Bernie will not run for President, I see him feeling not well, trying to put on a good front. The midterms feel neutral at this point with the advantage to the Dems. Keep an eye on the stock market and gas prices or something to hit people in the pocket book. Trump is running a publicity campaign with things like North Korea talks and “spy gate” but I feel there is something that is really going to piss voters off about him right before the election, maybe around Oct 15.
Mary, what do you see will piss off Trump loyalists? Can this be an another tax cut?
No, not tax cut. Tax cut recently passed was for Trump supporters. However, It appears companies that got tax cuts used it to buy back stock, reward CEO and not pass it on to employees contrary to what Trump advertised.
The furture incident is involved with money. Something in your face. Could be gas prices, jobs report, stock market. It will be on cable news for three days when it happens. It’s a build up of several weeks but surfaces to awareness in a matter of days. It might be a recession or a fast stock market down turn. On an aside, Trumps marriage appears to be I jeopardy, again. Thinking coming to a head in August/September, another distraction for him. Something happened right after the French presidents visit with her attitude.
The momentum of the Obama economy can only be sustained for a limited period without feeding it. Trumps policies have undone the fixes Obama’s put in place after the 2008 financial crisis. Huge problem . Trump is doing this for spite and lack of understanding of economics.
Yesterday, I read an article on CNBC, Goldman Sachs is predicting a recession. This may be the incident. I’d keep a close eye on your investments with a plan of what to do when all of this goes south.
