There are many wonderful reasons to use alternative medicine but these people really make it difficult to gain and keep credibility.
This felt like a gut punch when her videos circulated in early 2020. Plenty of others are taking her place, one today was equating non vaccinated football players to being in the Holocaust.
Skepticism is rational. The drug companies have plenty to answer for. But Her videos were terrible and likely caused harm.
I cannot believe all these disgusting comparisons to the Holocaust. I am the grandchild of a survivor. Saying taking precautions with Covid is akin to the Holocaust is like saying putting on socks is the same as chopping off your feet. Madness.
In case you are curious about your county’s standing in the transmission of Covid-19, just check out this link to the CDC. You enter your state and county and get an idea how things are going. Luckily, my county is listed as moderate, and today on my errands I noticed a lot more people wearing masks. Since I got the J&J, it’s back to mask wearing for me and it doesn’t bother me one bit!

@lenor This country data is terrific. Thank you for finding this for us.
https://covidactnow.org/?s=21111035 breaks it down from top to bottom : US,state, county, risk level, number vaccinated... no surprises here .. my county is very high risk, 31% and cases rising daily with school starting in person next week on the 4th. So reassuring! Not.
MSNBC just discussed Mitch McConnell using his own re-election campaign $$ to do pro vaccine ads in Kentucky. He is running radio ads. They asked a reporter why he thought Mitch was doing it - he responded- Mitch’s polio and the fact that this is “getting real”. The vaccination rates in Kentucky especially being so low. The reporter also mentioned a general feeling of frustration among leaders at the Capitol.
@journeywithme2 You could not have said it better. No surprise that he's using reelection money, not his own considerable blood money. It's for his reelection. He's trying to salvage his brand. Soon, the likes of Florida politicians like Rick Scott and Governor Desantis who forbade state employees to use the term global warming or climate change, will be pouring their reelection money into saving Florida from rising seas.
Here is the latest on the rise in unvaccinated covid cases. I've been troubled about the high numbers of unvaccinated Covid cases since there was a cluster of 571 cases in Provincetown on Cape Cod this July with authorities reporting that 70% had already been vaccinated. Seventy percent! But I now realize that these numbers are highly deceiving. This Boston Globe article explainsthat we vaccinated are just as protected as we always were, about 95% protected (except it's unclear how quickly immunity declines).
The reason for the high Cape Cod numbers of vaccinated covid cases, is that in a highly vaccinated population, and in Massachusetts, 70% of people over age 12 are vaccinated, we will naturally see higher numbers of vaccinated people getting covid. It's just math.
I still have questions:
1. What is the transmission rate of the Delta variant? They say it's like chickenpox or the common cold, but I could not find an exact transmission rate. The earlier variants of covid are said to have a 1 percent transmission rate.
2. How long do the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines continue to convey immunity? No answer to this either. Paul Campbell displayed some data from the UK and Israel showing what appeared to be immunity declining after 5 months but it was unclear what his data meant.
Either way, I am continuing to mask indoors, and I won't be going to indoor bars and restaurants, where unmasked people can end out hanging out closer together.
Finally, while vaccinated people have died from covid, the chances are really low.
P.S. The CDC is now recommending that even vaccinated people mask indoors.
P.S. The CDC is now recommending that even vaccinated people mask indoors.
I was planning on this well before the latest course reversal from the CDC.
What I wish more people realized is that this is science in action. (NOTE: Not anyone here, I'm talking the people who are saying the CDC has lost its credibility) If a virus (for example) remained the same with zero mutations we might be closer to being out of this. We were on a path, the masking guidance was relaxed, and now we're on a different path and the guidance needs to be toughened again.
@jeanne-mayell I just saw this quote on transmission rate today from the Your Local Epidemiologist page on Facebook (she's a wonderful data resource):
"Delta is more contagious than smallpox and is as contagious as chickenpox. On average, one person will infect 8-10 other people with Delta. This is much higher than previous variants."
There is definitely HOPE for the anti-vaxxers in your life.
Case and point, the very vocal anti-vaxx Trump supporter who knew my mom from back in the day and contacted her to get her opinion of the vaccine. (She really respects my mom who is a very well read and informed person). My mom got her first vaccination in January.
This person has now gotten her first vaccine will get the second in a month.
While I don't know what motivated her to get it at the moment in time, I have some theories on why anti-vaxxers are moving toward the light on this issue in general.
1- they are discovering that this wave of hospitalizations is mostly with the unvaccinated. That news is everywhere and can't be hidden.
2- there are family members of theirs who will not see them if they are unvaccinated.
3- other people will not see them unless they have a vaccination
4- businesses are beginning to require vaccinations.
5- their fear of covid is now stronger than their fear of side effects, which is still there.
I have actually asked people what their vaccination status is before meeting up with them this summer. It was weird at first but I am going to continue this practice.
I am now wondering if this is the beginning of another "Great Turning". The Trump cult may be waking up. If they are moving towards vaccines, what else will they move towards? Hopefully truth.
Important information to share about a real life breakthrough case.
My friend and her entire family were all fully vaccinated.
Monday night she drove her husband to the ER because he was coughing and had a hard time catching his breath. She was required to stay in her car (well, outside the hospital technically) until his covid test came back negative. It did. The medical workers were perplexed as he showed symptoms of covid and his blood oxygen level was low but he had a negative test. She was allowed inside the hospital to be with him. They took him to get a cat scan and he had blood clots in his lungs and legs. They really felt he had Covid and tested him again. It was negative again. His was put on blood thinners and stayed in the hospital over night. Medical staff was perplexed.
Yesterday he had a low grade fever and headache. He stayed over night again and they tested him again this morning. This new test came back positive. An adult son was also tested today (slight symptoms) and he is positive also. She will be tested tomorrow, she has no symptoms.
This is a family doing everything right and has been careful.
Be aware! It took 3 covid tests at a hospital to be diagnosed with the disease. Intuitively the doctors were correct but it took a long time to prove it.
She of course is worried about her husband. Delta is nothing to play around with. Just because you are vaccinated doesn't mean everything will be smooth sailing. A vaccination is your best chance at life if you do get covid but it is still scary and dangerous.
@lovendures Oh my goodness. How scary. It always weirds me out that the test can come up negative initially and yet people still know their symptoms are COVID. Praying for a full recovery for your friends. Thank you for sharing their experience.
I've read through some of these posts and see that some of you have autoimmune disease and did well with the vaccine, that's comforting! I still have not yet received it due to nervousness, as I've reacted poorly to every vaccine I've every previously had, and due to my autoimmune disease. I've been doing some research, but has anyone had poor reactions to past vaccines and done ok with the covid vaccine?
Another worry is my husband had myocarditis after the flu vaccine, and we are worried about that happening again if he gets the covid vaccine, since that's been happening for some.
We don't have healthcare, which feels like we would be screwed either way if we get covid or the vaccine and have a bad reaction. Feel so in the middle and not sure what to do. We've been ok so far, but I do feel like I had Covid in November and December 2019 before anyone knew what it was because I had all the symptoms of what we now know is Covid.
