The Vaccine - Many issues to discuss

Today I was going to brag that I got my second Pfizer shot!  Unfortunately, when I went to the ER recently for the can incident, they gave me a tetanus shot and the health department had me in the room ready to give the vaccine when they asked if I'd gotten any other shots recently.  I answered honestly and now my scheduled appointment through my school district is rescinded and I'm on a callback list the next time they have an extra dose of Pfizer (after Wednesday) because apparently they have to wait two weeks between any vaccinations.  I am grateful to have some immunity but very upset with the hospital - I asked no fewer than four times if there'd be a conflict with my vaccination schedule and they told me no.  :-(

Having said that however, my wife got her second Moderna yesterday and is completely down for the count.  I feel bad for her.

The good news out of all of this is my finger is healing swimmingly.  The scabs are off and while there will be a scar, I am typing normally again today.  Fingers crossed I get the call from the health department late this week to get in and finish the vaccination cycle.  Thanks to everyone for sending the good vibes for finger healing!  It worked!

@dannyboy

Wow!  Nothing is easy anymore is it?

My husband still can't get a slot for vaccination.  It will happen but man, you would think it could be easier once it your time to finally get one.

@lizzie She was really sick for about 18 hours before she began to feel better. The only drawback was that she had a lingering headache for 7 days after the shot. She said the advil took the edge off for a while. Headache finally gone. She said the side effects were definitely worth getting the shot.

The side effects are uncomfortable, but thankfully they mean your immune system is mounting the desired response and working well!

Well I received my first Moderna vaccine shot on Friday, 3/5.  My arm was sore about 2 hrs afterwards and I started to feel light headed about 5 hrs afterwards. When I was receiving my shot, I asked the woman if raw eggs are used in the creation of the vaccine, since they were used in the flu shot and thus this is why my husband can't get the flu shot. She said no, however if someone is allergic to PEG (polyethylene glycol) then they should talk to their doctor about the Johnson and Johnson one instead. PEG is in both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.  PEG is also something commonly found in Miralax or antibacterial soaps. So if you have an allergy to PEG you should talk to your doctor about the J&J vaccine.?

My symptoms subsided by Saturday night and Sunday morning I felt fine. I took two tylenol 24 hrs after my vaccine and that really helped my sore arm. You should note that you should not take any anti inflammatory drugs before your vaccine and you should really be very hydrated before and afterwards. ?

@lenor, I'm thinking about you today, and @yogagirl, you will be in my thoughts tomorrow.  I pray that all goes well.  @ghandigirl, I'm really happy that you've gotten registered.  @dannyboy, I'm sorry that you had to postpone the shot.  How is your wife doing today?  @lovendures, I'm envisioning your husband receiving an email confirmation, stating that his vaccine is scheduled.

I had the first dose of Pfizer last Monday.  It was in a huge vaccination clinic connected to a large medical facility and hospital here.  Afterwards I sat in the area reserved for people who have allergic reactions to things.  I sat for about 45 minutes, and all went well.  I'm grateful for that.  I did had some side effects but not until Wednesday afternoon -- extreme fatigue and some chills.  No fever.  I'm feeling under the weather now, but I think it's partly because I've caught a cold from my husband.  Talk about timing!

FYI, the day before you get vaccinated and if you have time, the morning of, my physical therapist suggested that I dry brush the skin on my arms to keep the lymph moving.  And as @triciact mentioned, stay extra hydrated and don't take anti-inflammatories prior to the vaccine.

I'm praying for everyone's continued divine guidance and protection.  We'll all get through this together.

@deetoo  and jumping on a mini-trampoline is good for keeping lymphatic system moving too.

I know how you feel!  When my mom and older sister got their shots, I felt as relieved as if I'd gotten one myself!   (I'm still too young, LOL)

@deetoo. Thank you for your concern, but all went well today.  My appointment was at 4, got there 10 minutes before, went through 4 name and info checkers, got my shot which  stung a bit, but so far I am just a bit tired and my arm isn’t even sore. I got the J&J vaccine. I am happy with how everything was handled and told the people helping how great everything went.  There had been complaints about how things went at the beginning of setting up these vaccines, esp. since there were so many shortages of the vaccine. There were 12 tables with nurses giving shots with people scheduled every 15 minutes from 8 am to 8 pm. Now waiting for my husband to get called.

I think you're the first one to get the J and J the I know.  Can't wait to hear how you are feeling after a few hours/days.  I am not familiar with how people are reaction to this one.

I am really happy for you!!!

@lenor I'm glad to hear yours went well too. I'm getting the same kind in about a week and half. My mother and I are going on the same trip to get ours and they let us choose which one we wanted so we took the one shot one (which is also going to be a drive thru one). I'll admit I'm abit nervous about it but will feel much better that its going to be done. When we trying to get the appointments set up for the shot, we could get the first shot easy but it was really hard in our state to get the 2nd appointment (kept getting messages that there wasn't a supply for the next date) so we went ahead with the one shot one. It feels a bit less scary to know someone else who has gotten that one. Hope your husband gets a call soon.

My mom has had both doses. I pray every day now to receive an invite to be vaccinated, She is 89 and I have not seen her in over a year. Along with visualizing the shot I visualize giving her a big big big hug.

It has been a long time since I hugged my daughter too. Hopeful.

@lovendures

My boss's daughter (21 yrs old) got the J&J in N. Carolina. She felt like she had the flu for about 24 hrs then started feeling better afterwards. She was lucky to get it at her age, because the town /area she was in had extra/surplus at the end of the day and so they gave it to her.

@lovendures

Well, I got the vaccine at 4 pm yesterday, at first, I felt fine. Then about a few hours later I started to get tired. Went to bed by 10 ( normal time is 1am). I awoke at about 1:30 with my muscles and joints aching so bad I could barely move and I was freezing. I had on 2 blankets, a comforter, and flannel sheets and I could not get warm nor could I move. Moving was more painful than just laying there. It lasted until about 6am when I finally felt the cold and soreness subsiding and fell back to sleep. I woke again at 7:30 and got up with a really sore arm and a headache. Took two tylenol, had breakfast and now I feel just fine. The headache and sore arm was gone within 2 hours. But I am really thankful I got the vaccine.
