Trying to chuckle quietly so as not to awaken my boyfriend. That is the sickest burn! Logged in just so I could hit a like.
Also boo for the toxic chocolate. Addicted, but trying hard to cut sugars and leave prediabetic status behind. Maybe this will help.

Kevin has gone down for the 12th time!! It occurs to me... someone not in the usual rank and file is going to be nominated and become Speaker... not Kevin. It may even be a democrat... perhaps one reason so many of us saw the purple in the House.
@journeywithme2 @andrewposey had a vision for 2023 that former GOP Speaker Paul Ryan came back which I thought was interesting, given the current situation.
@jeanne-mayell Very!!! Because I saw it might be Ryan though I have mixed feelings about it given his efforts to privatize Medicare/Medicaid in years past.
@journeywithme2 Agree with you a hundred percent about the negative impact of Paul Ryan. Just because Paul Ryan isn't an ultra right wing reactionary fascist, doesn't make him okay. Privatizing Medicare is the end of health care for the elderly and disabled. We already have the worst health care system among 16 industrialized nations due to lack of access and not the least because private the health insurance industry has a hand in it. Medicare will only get less accessible and more expensive if they privatize it. I'd rather see an inept GOP speaker help to drag the whole party down. Go Kevin.

Oh, hey, It's 2023 now and I forgot to send this important message as we take off into the New Year:
Good morning and welcome to Flight 2023.
We are preparing to take off into the New Year.
Please make sure your Positive Attitude and Gratitude are secured and locked in the upright position.
All self-destruct devices: pity, anger, selfishness, pride, and resentment should be turned off at this time. All negativity, hurt, and discouragement should be tucked away and out of site so they don't cause problems if we suddenly lose positive attitude.
Should you lose your Positive Attitude under pressure during this flight, reach up and pull down a prayer. Prayers will automatically be activated by faith. Once your faith is activated, you can assist other passengers who need it.
There will be NO BAGGAGE allowed on this flight. Spirit has cleared us for take-off.

Jeanne, the timing of your post made me laugh because I’m currently on a JetBlue flight. And furthermore, you know how each JetBlue plane is given a nickname punning on the word “blue”? The name of this aircraft is “Dawning of a Blue Era.” I thought immediately of everyone here when I spied this name as I was boarding. And, yes, the flight’s a bit bumpy. :)
Lately, I haven't posted much. I feel that as soon I get to my dream career or fulfilling part of my life path, I don't have to stay with the community anymore. I have been a lurker for much of the past year as I want to see what others have to contribute to the forum.

Ha ha ha ha! Bumpy, but easier when you have activated your faith.
Guess what area in your kitchen is the most germ filled? You might be surprised.
According to the Washington Post it is those dastardly spice jars!!!
You know, this doesn't surprise me at all because over the past few years I have "thought" they are likely major contamination points. I frequently season RAW meat with them and well, no matter how hard I try to keep my hands germ free while cooking and wash my hands, spices are just in the line of germ fire. I need to wipe those jars down more thoroughly. I don't know if this is a case of logic or intuition, but I FREQUENTLY think of those spice jars. hahah
Now have an urge to wipe them down after writing this post. hahaha
I have A LOT of spices so I better get started.
I also have been thinking about trash can lids and utensils lately and...yep, they are also mentioned.

@lovendures So this was a shocker about the spices. I once did an investigative food safety study of poulty slaughter for the Atlantic which they published just in time for Thanksgiving. Those poor animals are treated so horribly throughout their lives that handling them raw is a guarantee that you will have some nasty microbes on your hands. The article was aptly called "Dirty Chicken". But it's not the chickens' fault.
It is one more case for a plant based diet because you won't generally see those kinds of nasty microbes on plants.
@jeanne-mayell Sadly... we have polluted so much of our environs now from air to water to soil? That there are other things just as scary... even if you are vegan! Think of intestinal parasites... that the worm eggs etc.are ingested as the cows, sheep, horses, rabbits graze... or the water borne like amoeba in the drinking water.. as well as the pesticides, diseases that through runoff fill our creeks and rivers and streams and ultimately our oceans. They sink in and foul our ground water. All the "forever" chemicals in our water : https://www.npr.org/2022/06/22/1106863211/the-dangers-of-forever-chemicals. The round up and other chemicals sprayed on our crop. The cases of listeria and coliform bacteria and salmonella in our food chain...found on ... lettuce, other veggies and fruits... As I write this I am hearing Joni Mitchell singing Big Yellow Taxi in my mind.... and remembering Silent Spring by Rachel Carson.
We have been shouting for ages... no one is listening it feels. When I was a young girl? My Grandaddy used to say... humans would eventually be wiped "nasty-ing themselves to death" and killing the Earth. Our ancestors have it right " Water is Life , water is sacred" and so are all the other living beings we are taking down with us. I have been terribly upset about the whales and the manatees this week. One reason for a big increase in the number of autoimmune diseases.... with nano plastics, micro plastics and forever chemicals I do believe! Our bodies are amazing instruments... and have a "smart" way about them. If our bodies start attacking our own cells... I fully believe it is because our cells have been invaded and the culprits have biofilm protecting as in the case of Lyme disease... as well as mycotoxins.
If you have ever looked through a microscope... I seriously doubt you would ever want to eat cheese... or would pull your eyelashes out by the roots if you knew of the tiny mites that live there..in everyone. There are a host of things we do not know about our food stuffs and bodies because they are beyond our five senses.
I guess bottom line? "no one gets out alive" right? Still... we need to take care of these glorious vehicles we drive (our bodies) in our incarnate forms and take care of those that share this planet with us as well as the planet herself. Yes?
I believe that the article alluded to the fact that we are aware about many contaminate places in the kitchen now so better about how we cook and clean.
In the study, the participants were asked to cook turkey burgers testing new recipes and didn't know it was actually a food safety study.
From the Washington Post article mentioned about:
In the study, researchers watched 371 people prepare seasoned turkey burgers — which had been inoculated with a harmless tracer bacteria often used as a “surrogate” for the norovirus — and a premade salad, using sterilized kitchens of different sizes, from apartment-style ones to teaching kitchens in extension centers. Once the meals were done, the scientists collected swabs from 12 surfaces, including utensils andcountertops.
Most surfaces tested positive 20 percent of the time or less, compared with the spice jars’ 48 percent. And the bacteria found on the spices was in higher concentrations than in other areas, according to the study, although cutting boards and trash-bin lids were also found in similar concentrations.
@lovendures I am so sorry to have drifted away from the point of the article you shared. Yes...I totally see how the spice jars could be... I do wipe mine down and always have.. because I would get flour or such on them when I used them and just developed the habit of wiping them. I always put my kitchen sponges in the dishwasher along with the dishes... until I saw an experiment shown on TV with the various levels of bacteria and efficacy, the only one that really killed all bacteria was soaking in beach for 15 minutes. So... that became my method followed up with the washing in the dishwasher. I also developed the habit of using the bacteria and virus killing wipes on everything during covid... door handles, counters, appliances, jars and cans of food etc etc.
I saw Jeanne's comment about vegan diet to avoid a lot of those food poisoning events... and just had to mention.. disease and parasites exist on plants also... hence the need for attention to planting, harvesting, storing and keeping both animals and vegetables as well as our water...clean and practice good husbandry. My career in veterinary medicine and farm animals.. both on small family farms as well as larger commercial practices gave me quite the education on raising and keeping healthy animals and gardens.
Georgia may be known for peaches and peanuts and onions? But we are one of the largest commercial producers of broilers and eggs.
