Just popping by with a "plug" for my favorite podcast. It got me through the pandemic and is just a delight:
Were You Raised By Wolves? (with Nick Leighton & Leah Bonemma)
They talk about modern etiquette and are so funny! I just loving considering minutiae of day to day living the way they do. There's ZERO political, ever.
It's such a breath of fresh air. I even recently submitted a question to them and got a lovely answer from Nick-they may put my question on the pod! - I'll let everyone know.
Give it a try when you just need a break from all the problems we are all facing. I know I have days where I'd rather think about how to fold a napkin than think about how the world is doing.
Typing this to distract myself from AZ election vote drama...
I'm not saying I went to Trader Joe's 2 days ago. I'm not saying my NEEDED items turned into some WANTED items. I'm not saying a bag of Horseradish and Chive Potato Chips ended up in my cart nor that I broke into the bag as soon as I got home. I'm not saying I might need to go back really soon because the chips are almost gone now either.
But if I were to say those things, I would need to tell EVERYONE here (especially horseradish fans) these are the BEST CHIPS I HAVE EVER TASTED!!! OMG!!
Things to be grateful for right now about living in Arizona:
1. Great November weather, even had some rain this week.
2. We have great winter weather with lots of blue sky days.
3. The beauty of the Grand Canyon, Sedona, the Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, part of Monument Valley, and Prescott. Also all of our Native American culture. It is vast and so enriching.
4. We don't change clocks for daylight savings.
5. I live very close to an ancient petroglyph site.
6. I live within 5-7 minutes of a Trader Joes.
Thank you U.S. VETERANS for serving our country.
We owe you a debt of gratitude.
Thanking my Great Uncle Reg for his service during WW2. He heroically saved aircraft as Mt. Vesuvius erupted and lava and ash rained down on him and ally forces. Also thanking my Father In-law for his navy service during WW2 and Korea, my Dad for his National Guard service just after Korea and my Step-Father for his army service during for Vietnam. Also thinking about all our ancestors who fought to preserve our nation during the Civil War.
May democracy grow and flourish.
Lately, I haven't posted much in the past few months. My psyche is been stressed after getting bombarded with a large number of election predictions. I have been turning away from establishment news and avoiding independent news such The Young Turks and The David Pakman Show.
@enkasongwriter I too have avoided election news for the past few months. I prefer to get my news directly from the world collective while in meditation. And from this community which sees the rising light rather than the dark stuff and that feeds my soul. I also feel they see the true direction of energy right now which is up, up, up!
back in Sept., talking about the Obamas appearing for the unveiling of their official portraits, i noted this, about my favorite FLOTUS:
first time i've seen her in braids (Yes!)- i always thought she was beautiful, but used to wonder why she always wore "white lady hair"? Guess it was so she wouldn't startle the, you know, white ladies, lol
and today, she confirmed my hypothesis:
(from The Guardian)
Michelle Obama said that Americans “weren’t ready” for her natural hair during Barack Obama’s tenure at the White House.
...
Obama said she decided to straighten her hair as the American people were “just getting adjusted” to having a Black first family, reported the Washington Post.
Though it would have been easier to style her hair in braids, Obama recalled thinking, “Nope, they’re not ready for it,” referring to the American public. Fearing her hair would be used as a distraction and politicized, Obama decided to straighten her hair so the administration could focus on its agenda instead of having to answer racist questions about her hair.
“Let me keep my hair straight,” Obama recalled thinking. “Let’s get healthcare passed.”
She added: “They tripped out when Barack wore a tan suit,” referring to the flak Barack Obama faced for his fashion choice back in 2014. “The great indignity, the scandal of the Obama administration.”
Hairstyles are another hurdle facing Black women in the workplace, Obama went on: natural hairstyles can be criticized as less professional, even if it may be easier to wear one’s hair that way.
“We deal with it – the whole thing about, ‘Do you show up with your natural hair?’” Obama said. “That’s the African American experience … but women in offices that are worried, ‘Should I wear skirts? Should I wear pantyhose?’ I hate pantyhose.”
The US House of Representatives passed the Crown Act in March, which prohibits discrimination based on hairstyles. The Senate has not passed the measure.
This is my 1st confirmed hit, so y'all just let me have it for a minute.
And yes, Michelle Obama is a lurker on this forum (she appears sometimes as the mysterious person known as "guest")- she told me so, over a pitcher of Margaritas 🍹
I am so gullible I had to think about that for a moment...was she really on the forum??
Then I remembered this was an Unk P post. ;)😉
She is right. The Tea Party right would have had a field day with a more natural hair style. Even some more moderate folks would have had to adjust. The tan suit thing was big and she she was criticized for every fashion step she took.
@lovendures there were no horseradish and chives potato chips in my sector... so I made sour cream horseradish and chive dip for my chips ... 🤤 Yum!
Y'all, I lost it today. I didn't mean to do it, but I lost my self control.
@unk-p, yes. Yellow lab who will be 5 months old on Sunday.
This will be Desi, since I already have Lucy (who so far isn't overly impressed). Lucy was the same when I brought home Ricki, but this one is healthy & will play.
@cindy yay! a new puppy! you are in for a world of fun
Cindy, i wanted to tell you how sorry i am about Ricki. After i prayed about it, i got a strong sense that Ricki had been so traumatized in this life, that (s)he just needed to go back to the spirit and have deep healing. I think after a while, she would like to come back to you, w a fresh start, in a new body. Maybe she could be Ethel- or even Fred?
peace & love to you
@unk-p, thank you. Funny thing with Ricki was that the first time I saw her picture on the rescue web site, I saw her white chest blaze & I thought it was a ghost. Spirit told me in a dream she was special. She needed me. In the wrong hands, her life would have been miserable. I felt so bad for her, feeling she had been traumatized so. I normally would have waited longer to get a new pup, especially after a difficult loss, but something has been pushing me. So I caved.
Going to check out Desi today, I could sort of feel my last yellow lab who's been gone over a decade. However Desi doesn't seem quite as silly. Is possible this too can change. I also had my eye on a Great Dane Lab mix (which is what Lucy is- Ricki was great dane great pyrenees mix), but the fellow with the pure lab got in touch first. Same with the cards this morning. When I asked which dog would be the best for my situation, the lab was what I was shown. I typically like to rescue, but that's not how I was led this time.
Desi had two barking fits tonight. The first was when I put her on my bed & she saw the yellow dog in the mirror. Then it was the strangers on the tv that riled her up. The adventures in puppyhood have commenced.
@journeywithme2 This is a bit weird to me...not the combination, obviously, but I saw horseradish and chive chips for the first time in my life tonight, and then you posted about it here. 😳
