@jeanne-mayell

My mother used to wake me up in the morning singing sweet songs. 🎶  She was a very loving soul. I miss her. Happy Mother's Day!

@dannyboy, @earthangel @cc21 @teriz, @Lawrence - It is so wonderful to read these bits of you and your mothers.  My vision of each of you is like a rich tapestry that now has some new colors.

One of my mom's favorite mottos is:  "This is an opportunity to make lemonade out of lemons".

My mom has made a whole bunch of lemonade from the lemons which life has thrown at her and she is brilliant at creating something new and wonderful from their acidic nature.  I have tried to incorporate this motto into my being. Many "Opportunities" in life may be hard to recognize as they first appear so bitter to us, but lemons add so much flavor to life if we are open to embracing their tartness.  And as far as a food, lemons could be their own food group in my home I use them so often.

What is avocado toast without a bit of lemon? It would be boring! BORING I tell you.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and all who have mothered others over the years.

My first thoughts of mom are the sound of the piano playing thru the house. Still love the sound of the instrument to this day.

And second, her curler bucket. All the kids in my second grade class made one for their mom's using bleach bottles with the tops cut off, cut-outs from magazines, handwritten notes in crayon, and a handle of vinyl covered laundry line. She stopped using curlers back in the 70s I guess it was, when curling irons became a thing again. But that bucket-often in later decades with no curlers in it, still resided in her bathroom closet through this century.

Y'all know my mind doesn't work like the average brain. LOL I was reading the article that was posted here about how the solar storms could cause major havoc here on Earth (along with articles about Starlink disruptions), yet in my mind I felt I missed out by not seeing the northern lights here on the coast. I laid in the chaise in my backyard with a blanket last night for some time, hoping for an encore, to no avail. Even with the knowledge beforehand that such storms could be disruptive (it even had my GPS failing a few times the other day), I couldn't help but feel that those who got to observe were being wrapped in a blanket of peace and love, and I missed out. Maybe it was just the fact that so many in the world took the time to stop, look up and appreciate it all at that same time while putting down any stress, hate, or other negativity, that I got that feeling. It was similar to the feeling I got when We Are The World played on the radio all around the world at the same time. I recall stopping in my living room and just feeling joy and peace-tho back then I didn't know why.

Just a little James Taylor for the mood...

@kathleen, @journeywithme2, @tybin, Yes, I've seen where he's noted he's on the spectrum. I had a nephew with Aspergers, so I'm familiar. I believe he's got psychological comorbidities as well.

@Jeanne-Mayell. I had three mothers and none of them were fit for that role. Instead, I received wonderful god mother who was just amazing. She passed away during Covid but it is she who I think of on this day. Sometimes the Universe provides a substitute that knows your soul in a way that others can’t

As far as first memory of her, She had heard the neighborhood gossip of the new biracial toddler and came down to open her heart and home. This was an upper middle class community and her inclusion of all the mixed kids of the neighborhood was always such a boost for one’s sense of self.

I have enjoyed reading about your mothers! Mine was on the narcissism continuum so there were some problems, however, she was smart, well-read and instilled both a love of nature and of art in me, which has enriched my life.

Interestingly, and I can't tell just anyone this, but a friend of mine who discovered (at mid-life out of the blue) medium-ship abilities, called me a couple of months after her death with a most healing message. It was, "Your mother wants you to know that she is now her best self."

My friend was also able to describe the death bed scene in exact detail. She added that my mother was enjoying learning and found her new realm incredibly interesting. Good to know....right?

Oh, and, I couldn't find it but I read an article yesterday that said that Elon Musk listens to conservative radio and is most concerned about the "woke" movement and now considers it the biggest threat. 😳

@jeanne-mayell

It’s complicated with my mother. Lots of ups and downs which I won’t go into.

One incident though that is a strong memory.

I was in my 20’s and was flatting. I needed a new flatmate so had advertised for one. One of the replies was from a guy who said he worked for the police and in the conversation I said he would be trustworthy then. He came for an interview and it’s the first time in my life that when I opened the door and saw someone I had a shock feeling that there was something wrong.

Politeness took over and I invited him in. In the conversation he looked at my fireplace where a vase of flowers were and said I think a  body would look better there. My thoughts were shit what do I do now but politely replied I prefer flowers. Then the phone rang in the hallway, I answered and it was my mother, she said I felt something was wrong, boy was there, so she suggested tell him the flat is taken and stay on the phone. I politely told him sorry the room is now taken and luckily he left. I have never loved my mother more than for that phone call.

With all the ups and downs with Mum just before she died she did say I had been good to her which helped the complicated journey we had been on.

Regards to all

Matildagirl

@lawrence Ah, how lovely! When I was little, my mom would sing "Wake up, Kathy bird" in the morning. She also read books to me every night. A nurturing mother is everything.

@jeanne-mayell  Sadly .... not good ones. My mother laughing and regaling her friends with glee telling about something that she would do that would make me cry and tell her at 4 years old " you are not my real mom.... my real mom... my real family ... is going to come get me one day....you will miss me when I am gone" I was blessed however that her mom, my Granny, gave me unconditional love that allowed me to survive my upbringing. Granny still comes around and gives me signs.  There ended up being 6 deer right there in the backyard virtually on my door step... they stayed for about 40 minutes browsing. I definitely received their message and it was such a blessing 🙏🏻💜🪽🙌🪽💜

@jeanne-mayell

Thank you for tagging me! What a great prompt.

My mom came in to school for my second grade Halloween party. I was dressed as a black cat. I think she might have brought some homemade baked goods. I was so proud. She also sewed me a gypsy costume one year. There are gypsies in our lineage. I have always felt an affinity for gypsies even before learning that about our family.

When my father died, my mother, ex husband and I were with him. When he faltered at the very end she ran to get help. When she returned he was gone. I asked her if she was upset that she didn't get to say goodbye. She said, "If you were the last thing he saw then I am happy. You were a wonderful daughter to him." That's my mom. Never selfish, always giving. I adore her.

I saw my mom last weekend. She is doing well, has a best friend she loves there. I am grateful to still have her here at 92 years old. She knows who I am.

This has been one of the best Mothers Day of my life.  My daughter reached out again with a text this morning. Last night's anxiety turned into today's calm contentment. I am grateful.

Wasn't really sure where to post this bit thought sharing it here was best.

I stepped out the back door to set a quart of water in a green mason jar to make moon water on this Full Flower Moon night. I closed my eyes, wrapped my hands around the jar setting my intentions and when I opened my eyes ... there was a heavily pregnant doe standing not 6 feet from me!!! Staring straight in to my eyes!!! I talked softly to her and she flickered her ears but did not leave ... just listened and looked. I continued to talk softly to her and then slipped back inside to grab some baby carrots for her . I stepped back out and she was still there... had not moved. I continued to talk to her... to tell her she was safe here and I thanked her for coming to see me. I poured the baby carrots on the ground between and she delicately stepped forward and munched them up, blew her breath softly across my face , then turned and glided away across the yard in to the increasing dusk falling. I felt immensely touched and blessed and somewhat stunned by the beauty of the encounter.... still amazed and trying to determine what her message was. I just had to share this here with my "family" 🙏🏻💜🙌💜🙏🏻
