We should listen to our gut feelings. I decided to pause the program I was watching and step outside to see if there were any meteors visible. Perseid's are peaking this weekend. I got to the back door, and my gut said to get my phone. I chose not to- big mistake. I laid down on one of the chaise lounges, and lo and behold, what do I hear-an owl. First time since I moved here 23 years ago. It brought a big smile to my face listening, knowing it was in the trees in my backyard. I noted several planes going by, maybe a meteor, but couldn't tell for sure because of some light clouds. Then I saw what I thought was a satellite heading ENE. They move in a steady pattern, are smaller than most plane lights, but have no flashing lights, nor tails like meteors. Then I saw another, and another, all in perfect alignment and spacing from each other. I started counting. When I got to 16 I noted another that was moving ESE, it was the start of another line. I got up to get a better perspective, and a line of lights, bright but no flashing, and this time they were so close together it was mind-boggling. It was like looking at a line of LED lights being dragged thru the sky. There was no sound-so it was puzzling they were so bright if they were high enough not to be producing sound detectable from the ground. I ran for my camera, but it was so dark and my zoom lens was on, so it wouldn't focus. I'm kicking myself for not getting any pics. Should have taken my phone out like my gut told me to. There were 3 apparently military craft that came by, heading W in formation. I could hear them, see their flashing lights, and noted they started to slow down, but they never changed direction. Their lights were not as bright as those in the line I had just seen. Not sure if there are military exercises going on along the coast tonight, or if the three military were out observing like I was. Just a note for reference, I have military craft going overhead often-jets on test runs from bases nearby, and because I'm within 10 miles of Sunny Point. The three westbound could have been heading to Sunny Point, but all the eastbound-no way could they get that high that quick.

Some David Bowie for you to complement the mood.

First, awesome song.  I have always loved it!

Second, I also live near an airbase and take note of aircraft flying overhead, f-16's usually.  Interesting that there was no sound.  That is odd. What a light show you had!  Amazing!

I also have 2 owls which frequent our backyard.  Our dog LOVES communicating with them.  They in turn taunt him with hoots.

@unk-p I've said here several times that I received a message from my nephew after his passing, but I've hesitated to post it here because of his dark sense of humor (for fear of offending others here who may not appreciate such a sense of humor). If I offend anyone, I apologize in advance.

My nephew was 26 when he committed suicide by train outside of Atlanta 12 years ago. I was working as a care taker for a senior with dementia at the time. While she was in the shower (not long after the funeral), I was thinking of my nephew, wondering how his mother and brother would handle his passing going forward when I clearly heard my passed nephew say "Well they won't be singing Midnight Train to Georgia" anytime soon. I laughed out loud, it was so him and so out of the blue.

I kept thinking I should tell his mother (my older sister) I'd heard from him, but my younger sister (a practicing medium at the time) kept telling me that while it was definitely him and his sense of humor, I shouldn't tell our older sister (especially since she didn't believe in psychics and mediums). During my next phone call with my older sister, I was pushed so hard from spirit, I couldn't help myself. I told her what I'd heard. I was expecting a negative response. Instead, she broke into laughter and told me that there might be something to mediumship after all. She noted this was definitely her son's sense of humor, but it was also a song they had a link to before the incident. The Pips made an appearance on Richard Pryor's show years before, and they did the song as a parody without Gladys, which they'd seen on YouTube. It had become a running private joke between mother and son after they viewed it. Now, every time I hear the song, I know it's my nephew saying Hi. Thanks for relaying his howdy!

@cindy wow! chills!  now i know why i was strangely compelled to call them "The Pips, and Gladys" in my response to you, instead of the usual Gladys Knight and the Pips.  Thank you for sharing this. ❤️

@unk-p Your phrasing is what made me decide it was time to tell the story.

@lovendures, I finally found out what I saw in the sky that night-Elmo's starlink. Sigh. I thought it was something interesting, but nooo....

It is hard to believe that in the last 48 hours I've heard both "Midnight Train To Georgia" (on my way to church Sunday) AND "Rainy Night in Georgia" just now on my way home from a meeting. I smiled at Rainy Night laughing about how I haven't heard it in years till the last araignment day. But now seeing both songs listed like this makes me wonder if it's not a message about the storm in GA (older sister whom I don't typically have contact with is in coastal GA). Scratches head.

@journeywithme2, I was wondering why they were playing all Jimmy Buffet songs at our town's Farmers Market this morning.  It was lovely.

@journeywithme2 @deetoo

I started feeling sad last night a few hours before I went asleep. I knew someone who had touched my life had passed. Good memories-

In the 80's, I spent eight years doing various principal roles on "All My Children" It felt like a family and I loved working there. One of those days, I had a scene with Susan Lucci (Erica Kane) and another actor. During our first onstage rehearsal, I met him. It was Jimmy Buffett, who wanted to try his hand at acting. He told me he was a bit nervous about it and I gave him some tips to help calm him down. His honesty touched my heart. We all had a fun time filming that day. RIP Jimmy.

So happy. I happened to walk by the ABC Studio, which is now a gym and got chills thinking about Jimmy. The NY Times called me shortly afterwards. So honored.
