Well crap.  My son (age 20) who has been isolating since being exposed to COVID on Wednesday the 22nd just came up positive on a PCR test he took Sunday.   (Previous PCR and rapid tests were all negative.)  He still feels fine but he's quite indignant that the booster "did not work", even though he understands intellectually that he would likely be ill if it didn't work.  New CDC guidelines say to isolate for 5 days after a positive test if asymptomatic.  So the poor kid still has 4 more days living in a trailer out in the country, alone, with no satellite, cable, or wifi except slow phone data.   At least he has books, broadcast TV, and chores and hobbies to keep him occupied, but it's already been 4 days now

Prayers and wishes for his and our family's physical and mental health would be welcome.  (I think our physical health will be fine but this is really, really messing with my head. I feel so bad for him, and I'm always the "fixer" in the family.)

@ana sending angels to be with him during his quarantine.  I wish I could send him Thoreau's Walden to get in the mood of being alone out there. Although 20 years old is a little young to get into Thoreau. Anyway, I think he may have a good experience, something transformative during that time.  My son got held up in a studio apartment with no local friends in San Diego during the Spring 2020 lockdown. He'd just moved there from L.A. because he thought he'd be able to quarantine surfing, only to have them close the beaches a week later.  So he was stuck inside for six weeks with no friends in the area.  It ended out having a positive effect on him.

Thank you very much Jeanne.  It also has occurred to me that maybe the alone time would be good for him in the long run.  I read some Eckhart Tolle last night and am trying to hang onto the "now" but it isn't easy.

So yesterday I lost my balance and fell backwards onto the floor. I didn't injure myself; my bottom absorbed most of the shock with my upper body and head making a secondary impact on a carpeted surface. Also yesterday I decided I'd stop wearing a hearing aid because it's not worth the trouble anymore.

I feel like my body has been falling apart with greater rapidity, and I'm just trying to make it to my February surgery in one piece. Even just walking around at home is a minefield. I'm sleeping more irregularly, which I think is worsening my mood. In 2019 there was a community prediction that said "spiraling downwards, trying to catch our breath, a dismal end to the year." That's how I feel right now.

All I know to do is to pray.  I am praying for your health and strength.  You are such a good man, with a well of resiliency.

@coyote

You have my best wishes for a good outcome.

It’s only a couple more weeks and you can’t do anything about that, so no point in worrying.

 So instead of trains, planes and automobiles, maybe canes, walking frames and hiking sticks. Decorate that bike helmet and wear it. Drag out that sumo suit for bouncing right back up. Have a whole lot of sitting going on. Binge watch that show, chill out, the time will go. Take care of yourself.

best wishes

Asking for prayers for my son in law.  He just tested positive. He’s vaxed and boosted.  He’s a teacher and coach.  My grandson is 3 and not yet vaxed.  My granddaughter is 7 and is.  My daughter is so worried about the kids especially the non vaxed.   Everyone around us is getting sick. All vaxed and boosted.  It’s a bit unsettling.   Any prayer or positive thought would be appreciated. Thank you ??

@febbby23   I can definitely relate.

Prayers for you and your family.  Omicron just doesn't seem to care much who it infects.  The good news is that it is indeed mild:  out of my son's housemates and several friends who were vaccinated and got it, none have had anything worse than mild cold symptoms.  I do get the worry about the unvaxxed baby. Praying that he will avoid illness.

So just to follow up, my son went back to his apartment today because all three of his housemates ended up testing positive.  None have been significantly ill and all are on the mend.  So there was really no point in him continuing to isolate himself from the housemates. He's only had a slight runny nose and slightly sore throat.  No headache, no fever, no coughing, no aches and pains.  Thank you all for your good thoughts.  I feel much more at ease now that he's back in town.  (Also I tested negative this morning and that was a weight off my mind.)

I think it is generally very good advice, @coyote.  There's not much you can do about the situation but wait and make the most of the "now".

I would, however, suggest you not be a complete couch potato.  When I was laid up with a broken ankle last year I looked up "chair exercises" that could be done while sitting.  I did them so I could keep my blood moving and prevent my muscles from completely atrophying. (If I don't get my blood circulating vigorously for at least a few minutes every day I start feeling terrible.  I think it helps clean out the body's waste products and brings nutrients and oxygen to all the small capillaries.)

Whatever you can do that is safe will help you be more fit and prepared for the procedures to come. And getting the blood flowing may also help your frame of mind.

@coyote sending angels to steady your balance and keep you on even keel. And to strengthen you in the coming weeks and when that surgery comes, sending angels to make it a perfect day for all involved, and great time of healing for you.

To make a very long  story short, the day was going well until my 25 daughter visiting for the holidays and I went for a walk with our dog this morning.

At the end of the walk, a pit bull escaped their yard, ran down the street and viciously attacked our 48 pound dog in the throat.  The dog latched on and would not let go.

The ER vet finally was able to see him after 9 hours. ( there is a vet shortage in my city and the vet ER was slammed with major traumas today and so was our regular vet.). Our dog was stable while other dogs at the ER were critical.

Our boy is doing well,  only 2 punctures on his throat and shoulder and we are awaiting a scan and a test to make sure his kidneys can handle the meds and that there is no unseen damage.

I know we were protected and blessed beyond belief during this experience.  The pit bull could have attacked my daughter or me and our dog will be ok.  My daughter's screams alerted the owner to what was happening and he ran out to find me wrestling with his dog on the ground trying to get her to stop the attack. The owner eventually chocked his dog to get her to stop (he couldn't pry the dog's mouth loose) and I gouged the dog's eye with my thumb at the same time.

My knee is sore  from hitting the rocks and concrete and rolling around on the ground trying to save my dog but it will be ok .  My daughter is traumatized by the experience and spent much of the day sobbing, she was holding his leash when the other dog came up from behind us.  I am grateful my dog has thick fluffy fur which likely lessened the impact of the bit.

I miss my sweet boy and can't wait until we can pick up him up and give him lots of love and care.

It has been a long day but we are blessed beyond belief and we know it..

@lovendures   Oh no, how traumatic.   I am thankful that everyone's physical injuries were relatively minor.   It will be OK.  Breathe.  Visit your puppy as much as feasible.  It will be OK.
