I'm going to try and visit one of the Cathedrals where I live hopefully next week and say some prayers there and light a candle.
Ask your son and significant other to help you decorate a bit. They may help bring some of the holiday spirit into your home. My daughter and her enthusiasm sure has helped our home this year.
Is there a tradition he is looking froward to? Perhaps focus on that (those) together. He may be in need of some of those comforting traditions this year after all that happened with his father and that side of his family. It may comfort you also.
I'm so sorry you are going through this. I like the idea of lighting a candle at the Cathedral. When I light the Menorah I will say the prayer for healing for you.

So, be aware that I am not a known psychic but I felt a "ping" when I read CSF-venous fistula so my hunch agrees with your hunch. I also strongly feel that you have intuitive knowledge of your body. As a terrible pun I would urge you to keep "plugging.."
