@raincloud   Thanks for the comments   I do think the dreams about showering (which I have very often) are connected somehow to cleansing - not physically but maybe washing off "bad vibes" or negative emotions. I tend to pick up the emotions of others too easilyl  '

About humankind needing a new planet-- as a geochemist, I can tell you that we will never, ever find a planet more compatible with our physiology than Earth is.  No matter how bad Earth gets, anyplace else will be worse.  Our bodies evolved to be specifically tailored for the chemistry and environment of Earth.  The combination of the nutrients in its soil, the composition and pressure of the atmosphere, the electromagnetic spectrum of the Sun, the gravity and magnetism of Earth and pretty much every little detail is unique to Earth.  Some places (not yet discovered) may come close, but there will always be something lacking or something too abundant for our bodies to handle.  Those problems would have to be figured out first, then a remedy would need to be developed .

As much as humans have altered some characteristics of Earth, it would be far easier to undo those alterations that it would be to terraform another planet to our specific needs.  So-- I personally don't think we should be looking for other planetary homes.  Maybe the dream just meant for me personally, another home, and as Jeanne suggested, I could have also been picking up on the vibes of Musk and others.  (Which must have been icky vibes!  Wow I need a shower. 🤢

Sorry for veering from the dream topic.

@ana I absolutely loved your geochemical lecture! Even for crass materialists, it would be convincing with your lecture that humanity can't simply replace Mother Earth and throw her away when she's used up by us. We all have a responsibility to care for this beautiful and scared planet, and that includes fixing the mistakes we as humanity have made.

@ana, thank you for stating so meticulously and clearly what I have also believed in my gut ever since the idea of colonizing other planets appeared.  The movie, Intersteller, while an astounding masterpiece in one way, I found to be totally off base for its assumption that the human race had to vacate and live on some Saturn moon.

That said, I can see Musk or Musk-like entrepreneurs seeing the moon as an expensive entertainment trip, similar to the Titan trip to the bottom of the ocean.

Actually I wanted to write "beautiful and sacred planet”, but my subconscious made me write “beautiful and scared planet”...

@ana

I agree completely about the futility and impossibility of an alternate planet. Still, on some level I wondered if your knowledgeable psyche would agree with Stephen Hawking in that we might wish we had one.

@raincloud I think the question of whether Stephen Hawking would want us to have another planet is connected to the big question of whether one can put trust in humanity and believe that it can take care of this planet and all of us. I know that Stephen Hawking didn't believe in a higher creator or God, and he obviously didn't believe in humanity being able to care about the planet or about humanity itself well enough. So he proposed to humanity to better look for another planet in order to be able to survive.

I personally do believe in a higher creator, and after the fascinating geochemical lecture, I feel like our higher creator saw it as something good to learn for humanity to be dependent forever on planet Earth when at the same time giving us the responsibility to take care of the Earth.

@joy eventually of course if humanity continues into the far future, we will have to leave this planet if we want our species to survive… Solar systems do not exist for eternity…

@freya Wow... what a thought....this is pretty far ahead in time, a few billion years or so. Thus, I haven't considered this ... but of course, you are absolutely right! It might be a good idea to care for planet Earth for the next few billion years, though 😉

@raincloud   We might wish we had  a spare Earth, but we'd probably just wreck it too.

(There used to be a bumper sticker that said, "Earth First!  We'll screw up the other planets later")

Solar systems do not exist for eternity…

Species don't either...   And it boggles the mind to imagine what humans might evolve into if we do last a billion years.

@ana too true…. We probably would not recognize a time-traveling “human” from our distant future if they landed in our backyard and gave us their version of a high five. It’s best to focus on how we can help each other and Gaia now.

You are quite right @iridium… I meant to reply to you rather than @ana… impermanence includes our species…

I dreamed about T tonight. I never usually dream about him. For any interpretation of the dream you might need to know that I live in Germany and he doesn't belong to my government. Dream: I had a date with T in the future, who would come to meet me. I could not escape the date. It was planned for me, that the two of us would go for a walk together along our beautiful coast. Like a future couple would do before a marriage, but this would not be like in modern relationships with even rights. Before the date, Trump was a very agile and strong man who was focused on an agenda from which also no one could escape. Because of his agility and focused agenda, I could guess in advance that he would walk really fast next to me, so fast that I would hardly be able to keep up. He wouldn't be unfriendly to me, but he would be focused only on himself and his agenda. As I prepared for the inevitable walk, everything in my life at home changed and became strange, even in my personal relationships. The pets' behavior became strange, too. They all acted as if they had gone mad. But then came the day of the arranged walk, and T didn't show up. There was no prior cancellation; he just didn't show up. Suddenly, it was clear that he would never actually come for a walk with me. After that, my life went back to normal, including the pets' behavior — even that went back to normal. I very much appreciated that everything returned back to normal in my life, and it was of no further interest in my dreams, why T didn't show up for a walk with me. I was just satisfied he'd never show up in my future, and that was all the knowledge I needed.

Welp, now T wants to resume nuclear testing. Let me count the ways that can go wrong, especially since he's always going to the biggest bang possible. As Luke Skywalker once said, "I have a really bad feeling about this."  Trump's Call To Resume Nuclear Testing

@pamp I believe it was Han Solo that said that line.
