from your description I share a couple of stories.
1) one reason I feel I was effective in education - I had a very strong ability to read emotions. I remember one student in particular - my science teacher colleague told me one day “so and so is in such a great mood today!” And when he came to my room five minutes later he did indeed have a smile on his face but the anger and sadness inside him almost choked me. I got fhe class going and pulled him into the hallway and - yes … the smile was for show. Some truly terrible things had happened in his family and he wanted to know how I knew.
2) I have trained the therapy doodle too well. We do in fact communicate by just looking at one another now and I can read him as well as he reads me. Multiple times these past few weeks he’s just laid on me and snuggled because he knew I needed it. And he has become such a good reader himself. If I could have taken a picture of him and this girl I haven’t seen in the school since the day she got down on the floor and started sobbing while petting him. (I was absorbed in my work and didn’t notice the quiet tears until she got up to leave.). When she left he jumped up with pride in his own eyes to tell me he did his job and cheered her up. (And that he deserved a treat for that. Which he got)
