The future of the GOP

So now that Mr T seems intent on burning the party down, what do we see in the GOP’s future?

Some believe it will go the way of the Whigs after the Kansas-Nebraska Act, splintering into two factions. That of course eventually led to the modern GOP.

Thoughts? Cards?

I see there becoming 3 parties down the road. The 25% far left progressives(AOC/Bernie), the 25% far right Trumpets(Hawley, Jordan) and then the moderate Dems and moderate former Reps(Biden, Lincoln Project) becoming a new party that has the half in the middle and rules for a while.

I also think this is best for the country because we need to get back to working together. Both the far left and far right will die out slowly and we will slowly progress to where we need to be. This will also keep us from having any extremist rule again.

@mas1581 Countries like Canada and the UK also have niche parties within the government, even though they have major left and major right parties. Why is it that the US is slowing catching up with its counterparts?

History repeats itself, doesn't it. Donald Trump could just as well be Adolf Hitler. He is so much like the German Furher of the 1920s, 1930s, and early 1940s.

The power of one-sided political opinion radio, Fox News propagandists, and a large number of "Christian" pastors has been convincingly demonstrated. Simply stated, the rioters were badly brainwashed by propaganda and outright lies. They failed to recognize the truth, that Trump lost the election because of his deplorable morals and extreme lawlessness. They came to support a tyrannical dictator!

@fran I posted a prediction about the party's future  on this website's Prediction Page that the GOP will not see another presidency.  (click here and scroll down to SUMMARY OF THE DECADE.) Posted 1/2/21 Politics: The Republican Party will not see another presidency.  In a 2015 meditation, I saw a vision of an elephant crying as the party’s numbers fizzled to six percent of the country.  The trauma people suffered during the Trump Administration will haunt the GOP for years to come.  Moderate Republicans will try to restore the party’s popularity by shifting the brand, but the country’s youth is coming of age and they will move the political spectrum to the left, leaving the GOP of 2020 to fall off the end of the political spectrum.  They will end up going the way of the Nazi party, still alive but a tiny fringe group. The Lincoln Project, moderate republicans who campaigned against Donald Trump, will take a lead in separating more formally from the party and trying to shift the conservative brand. They may end out filing as a new party with a new name. -- Jeanne Mayell

In November, in Massachusetts, the Republicans lost every single bid for office. Their demise in Massachusetts is going to spread across the country.

Most republicans right now are afraid to say anything.  They do not want to draw attention to themselves.

The radical republicans, like Loeffler, are finished. They are huddling with their high paid political consultants to figure out what to do.  They are being told to disavow Trump and then lay low.

A few weeks ago, I started seeing the Lincoln Project, the more liberal wing of the Republican Party, will begin to formulate a plan for shifting away from the radicalized GOP. They are giving thought to how they can change their name yet hold onto the business and wealth base that Republicans have built in this country.

We just need to find leadership in both parties(either GOP or new conservative party) that can properly balance social liberalism, legal conservatism, and fiscal responsibility. That would lead to a fix for our social, Healthcare, and racial issues, strengthen the constitution and legal system, and close the wealth gap without getting the country into more debt than we can handle.

First and foremost, systemic racism has to be openly dealt with because it is one of the root causes of all of those problems. It is a tall order but if we found it we would be back to being the beacon of the world.

In a recent election cycle in my town, which is majority Dem, some Republicans refiled and ran as Democrats just to get elected. Luckily the scheme was plastered all over the local news and no one was fooled. But its a warning that those who seek power by hurting the populace will not just disappear but will embed themselves in whatever party is winning. It's important to stay informed, and to vote locally as well as in the big elections.

As much as I would love for this vision to come to pass, I fear that it won't.  Remember, I live in deep red state Tennessee, where Democrats are always identified as radicals and socialists.  It is deeply ingrained in the psyche of the voters here, and no amount of trauma from Republicans would ever change that.

I fear that the only way that your vision will come to pass is if radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh and networks like Fox News either change or die off.

Do you see news pundits for the radical right getting their just karma in the coming years?  Only by them being silent (or at least subjected to the law involving slander and conspiracy theories) do I see the rhetoric stopping and thus allowing your vision to become reality.

@allyn. Just some counterpoint but - if the Lincoln Party and the Moderates like Sasse and Romney split from the Republicans in some way to build a rebranded party, you’re going to lose some of the people above you described nation wide, which might mean that the “Republicans” as they would continue to call themselves, would be a much smaller group and primarily consisting of the brainwashed and the Trumpsters.

I want to read cards on Mitt Romney and/or Ben Sasse to get some semblance of where the most likely to support a split if a split were to occur would fall.  This is now on my agenda.

*All* "othering" eventually needs to be dealt with to solve the problems--- and racial "othering" is a good start.
