I just lost my job on Tuesday. If I didn’t have a large student loan, I’d be happy working two or three minimum wage jobs just to survive.

i hope something good happens and much of the student debt is canceled. My loans are through the federal government so if the government collapses, I’ll be happy.

@pacosurfer

So nice to hear from you again!  So sorry to hear that you lost your job.  But happy you had work during any of these challenging times. How are you doing all in all?

I think everyone with large student loan debt wishes for that miraculous possibility! It would certainly make a nice difference for so many young people.

I paid off mine in 10 years eons ago and our income was so stretched just by that extra amount for each of us we did without simple things like juice and real butter. Oh it was hard to go without treats or nicer things we really wanted for sooo long!

After paying basic bills avoiding any credit card debt at all we still only had enough to pay household costs. My husband student loan took several years past mine.

I would have swooned with relief or jumped up and down with joy if anyone  had offered help!

Here's hoping you get to swoon and jump!!!

Sending best thoughts your way!

?

@michele-b

to be honest, I don’t have the words to describe how I feel. I do have a treadmill that I need to get back on.

its not the loss of money necessarily; I loved my co-workers and I felt I was torn away from them.

Loss of connection is huge!!  So glad you had that and them. Rebuilding it without a routine of work is trickier but so possible!

Come over to the Support thread instead of the economy one and share your story if you can lay it all out. Comments will help and support makes a huge huge difference!

Thanks @Coyote for bumping this thread back up.

I agree, it's going to be much, much worse this time. I think it's safe to say government help for small businesses and for people will be in the range of woefully inadequate to non-existent.

My husband and I are having intermittent conversations on where we'd go if we have to leave California because we couldn't afford to stay. Somewhere cold and isolated... but not Canada (LOL I totally would, but he's opposed to emigrating and it would have to be up to him to get work there).

The collapse of capitalism is going to be very rough. Here's hoping we make it through to build a more civil society.

I think it's been said on here before that the great lakes could be a soft landing spot if climate change becomes more apparent towards 2030 as it's a good freshwater resource.

@stu

Friends of ours from NYC just relocated to St. Joseph, Michigan, right on the lake. It looks pretty but it might be too cold for me!

I'd be more inclined to head up into Washington State (closer to that northern border * wink wink nod nod *).
