Things are being described as a "logistical nightmare" by census workers.
Inadequate training, technical issues with the app, half the census workers than 2010, workers threatened with physical harm by residents, people who don't want to fill out the census because they don't trust Trump, reports of too many enumerators in some districts and too few in minority districts.
There is a lawsuit because the census timeframe has been was shortened and is now scheduled to end in September, a month early.
Have you made sure you have been counted?
@lovendures I did mine online back in March! I hope everyone takes the time to either enter information online or return the mailed questionnaires... this shapes the funds that communities can receive for improvements for all.
Imagine getting a mail in ballot.
Oregon is 100% mail in and half a million residents have been told to evacuate from their homes.
Many homes burned to the ground along with mailboxes and addresses and in some cities their little post offices.
All mail being rerouted to Salem. Uh yeah...about those normally long lines as well as our already removed mail drop boxes. Sigh!
Ugh!
Seems like not only will voting be extremely difficult, but so will finishing the census.
Blessings to all of you in Oregon.
We are suddenly not only immigrants of many kinds but displaced "houseless" of many kinds.
I just read 52% of all grown kids returned to live at home. We are becoming a true potpourri of a merging melting pot!
Thanks for posting this thread. As a result I just went online and did our census. It is easy to submit online -- https://my2020census.gov. Takes a few minutes. They ask simple questions and you get to be counted which is good.
I did my census back in March when it first came out. People do not realize the importance of the census like NJTransit. I know NJTransit uses the census information to make decisions on how many buses should be eliminated.
I have a friend who is going door to door for the Census, and she is telling me people are chasing her out of the house with their dogs. Recently, my friend has a person who did not do the census have their dog go after her. She just wanted to help them complete the census. A lot of people, according to her, are not being cooperative on completing the census with her.
It is a shame that people are not being cooperative. People use the census for library funding, transportation funding, etc...
I did mine online when it first came out too. I believe the census is used to determine the amount of congressional reps for each state and how many electoral college delegates are given to each state. That is why California has so many and N. Dakota so few. The Census.
Its no surprise the census is a mess. Democrats think Trump/GOP is going to find a way to track them and use it against them(and they're probably right), and Trumpets think its rigged to help illegal immigrants steal the election(cant believe I am actually saying this).
I was out this morning feeding, and a car pulled up in front of my late landlady's home. I asked if she needed help. She was a census taker following up on a couple of addresses on MLK road. I told her about Eliza, and that the next home was a Native American. We have helpful people, when I got back in the car another person stopped and asked if I had told the census taker about Eliza. As I said, helpful people.
The NYT has a a reassuring piece on the impact of the census undercount. It looks like it won't be as bad as feared, and is liable to hit red states predominantly. The thing to watch is what the admin does with the Census Bureau's numbers before delivering them to Congress.

A census worker was in my neighborhood this week. She came and asked me about a few of my neighbors - are they snowbirds, are they home in the afternoon? (She had her census worker badge prominently displayed.) She said they are working hard to try and get everyone counted! I expressed my gratitude and thanked her profusely for taking on the job!!!
@lowtide It is a very hard job to do. We have to deal with a lot of personalities. At this point, the census bureau does not need any names. They just need to know how many people live at a household. I feel like the census will be shortlisted this year and will affect services like schools and senior centers which need the census information for funding.
The census officially ended on October 15th, and overall, it was a disaster. Many people were not counted since the job had to be done by a deadline. This will have consequences in the next few years.
