Article about astrological implications of solar eclipse   http://www.collective-evolution.com/2017/08/01/the-great-american-eclipse-an-astrological-analysis/

This reading supports much of the predictions in this group.

Also, in regard to the cycles of eclipses, this one also harkens back to the one in 1869 and 1918. The division of N & S, and the creation of the KKK, the laws restricting African Americans etc-- President Grant's presidency... Aw well, that is what is on everyone's mind because of the current events. However, I think we should also look to the effect on the Native American rights and treatment as at that time. As you can see, history is repeating itself - in the 1860-1870s it was the Black Hills that the government looked to take from the Lakota, to them a location much like Jerusalem to Christians and Jewish people. The US wanted it for the gold and other minerals and resources-- this ultimately lead to the Indian Wars and the famous battle in 1876 which General Custer lost.

Interesting thing about Custer, the description of him is very similar to Trump-- I wonder if there is some reincarnation/ past life issue going on there. The description of Custer: "Custer, whose tireless self-promotion, outsized vanity, lust for fame and power, and incapacity for empathy--most of his soldiers detested him--presaged the sickness of the modern celebrity culture, embodied the cult of the self. He was the quintessential American hustler. Contracts that presented impediments to material and national advancement, defined as progress, were nullified or ignored. Force rather than trust determined relationships. Nature was a commodity to make human beings wealthy. And there as no limit to the amount of human suffering and death, environmental contamination, and extinction of species one could inflict on the road to glory, wealth and power." It is a little eerie, do you not think? Anyway, I was poked to look at this.

I would like to think that by the next eclipse we will see a different kind of life/economy/values-- more resembling one that was held in high esteem and practice by the Native American. "A  society in which respect was achieved by the redistribution of wealth and rank was earned by merit, in which the natural and human worlds were intimately connected and revered, in which there was not real concept of personal property and life was communal.".. I don't necessarily hope for a commune or socialism but something more of a piece of distributism-- or at least an end to crony and unrestricted capitalism. A modern secular rerum novarum...perhaps.

I find that quite interesting in the last time this type of eclipse occurred was back in the birth of US:

The last time Pluto was in Capricorn was from 1762-1778 and at the end of that time period the US Declaration Of Independence was signed and the US was birthed.

It's going to be interesting to see how this develops!

I'm just curious - how is everyone feeling about this eclipse or what's coming? I'm feeling restless, a bit angry, and I keep hearing "Fight, fight, fight!". I'm usually calm and positive so this is a little unsettling for me...what kind of energy are you feeling?

Very interesting article Kathy - thanks for sharing.

Eclipses evoke much-needed change. And yes, they can effect your emotions.

Many excellent articles online about this.

Here is just one:  https://www.bustle.com/p/does-the-solar-eclipse-affect-mental-health-practicing-self-care-on-monday-is-a-must-77583

Just experienced the solar eclipse at 99.3%. Crickets in my back yard began chirping like it was twilight. Amazing!

The key is to focus on where you are when the light comes back, as opposed to where you are when the light is blocked.

Thanks for starting this topic.  I'm on retreat, but jumped in for a few minutes today to moderate in case anyone was held up. Brian will be back moderating tomorrow until I return on Friday.

I get an ominous feeling about the eclipse. I posted in comments just now  that it is a foreboding for the U.S. and very bad for the president. Will be meditating on it and post in a few days.  But the feeling is that it signifies a turning point for our country (and this president).   But eclipses aren't all bad.  They represent endings and new beginnings.  Something is about to end, but something will then begin.   As the eclipse is underway right now, I get a deep dark feeling.

Lucky you KB for being in the path of totality! I'm in Arizona so we just got a partial but I'm happy to report that I'm back to my normal self :)   I had a good conversation with the universe and my guide while it was happening and now I feel good.

Another thought about the eclipse -

The ancient Tibetans believed that everything is accentuated during an eclipse.  So we spent the eclipse meditating together on loving kindness. We sent love and well being to our loved ones, ourselves, and everyone in this world.

To all of you -- may you , those you love, and all beings awaken to your their selves. May you all live in joy and peace, be protected and free.

An eclipse brings temporary darkness to areas where it can be seen. How ever the no matter how dark it seems the light is still there. This is the lesson. Eclipses are harbinger of change which can be unsettling, it is painful in times. But, the change is necessary for new beginning to happen. This eclipse is probably the first in the serise of events to happen which will bring change in next 30-40 years in america. It's effects will seem like disaster, but it will bring important changes.
