Lately, I heard news of the QAnon conspiracy theory. This is related to how Trump is not guilty of any crimes against him. Does anyone know what's going on?

The whole QAnon conspiracy theory is literally almost beyond belief. Supposedly, an anonymous intelligence official with a "Q" security clearance (well above top secret) (and does not exist in the intelligence world but does in the energy department and has to do with nuclear weapons) has sent out tweets claiming that the Mueller investigation isn't about Trump/Russia at all but is digging into the hundreds of Democrats and government officials who are allegedly involved in underage sex trafficking. QAnon devotees are hanging on every tweet waiting for the day that Nancy Pelosi and her co-conspirators, like Hillary, are summarily rounded up and tossed in jail. A decent explanation can be found in this article:  https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-fans-are-suckers-and-qanon-is-perfect-for-them?ref=home

Thank you, Paul.  It's par for the course for the extreme right that there's a group that is so deranged that they make Fox news and Jim Jordan look mild.  The article is good:  Some people need a single, grand unifying theory of why the world refuses to line up with their expectations. When difficult realities confront people without the intellectual horsepower to understand and accept the truth, some turn to conspiracy theories to paper over the holes in their worldview. --Daily Beast

Congratulations, Jeanne, on the perfect quote extraction from the entire article!

Normally, I stay clear of the Daily Beast, the paper (based on their politifacts score) as well as the other one, the highest official in the land and his tweets), but this article had me laughing as well as grateful for their direct explanation.

My first thought had always been "pizza gate 2" and visions of Hillary in the basement, again!

So knowing it's all of the Democrats now being targeted as the virtual trumpeting of Qbots and Qmeta-hoaxes gives me a much clearer imagine of the true beast and beastliness going on.

Psychologically, as in Energy Dept. and the Dept.of Defence,   we're right back to Agent Orange and all of his projections and attempts at damage control as the Qbots, Qmeta-hoaxes and current Qmedia Blitz continues through 2020.

Depending of course if there's still a party, a platform and Twitter much less its senior resident.

Hmmm, maybe that's a good remote viewing exercise.

Tertiary syphilis certainly would provide a less nefarious and more reasonable explanation for Trump's words, tweets, and actions.

I agree that the QAnon conspiracy is another desperate attempt to avoid being held accountable for his crimes.  But it is a risky venture that someone has undertaken, probably someone connected to Trump, like Mercer.   What will the base do once Trump is held accountable?

Agent Orange is a demagogue and his base is a cult.  If he is up against a wall they will follow his orders.

I looked at QAnon a little while ago, because I saw it mentioned by somebody. Most descriptions of it make it sound more reasonable than it is. It isn't like a guy is claiming that he has a Q security clearance and is giving out some sort of half-baked pet conspiracy theory of his. No, it's far crazier and weirder. Whoever is behind this Q, has given up on even trying to make any sense at all, and is trying to get by on pure innuendo about just every conspiracy ever believed by any Republican. And he gets a following! It's like the one guy that Republicans can agree to follow is the one that isn't even giving them a conspiracy, but simply encourages them to keep believing whatever is their favorite flavor of nut.

It's like the US is in hell.

Jeanne, it's true that some demagogues have succeeded in spite of their personal shortcomings. But in the case of Trump, I think his followers are hitting just too many walls. It's hard to keep believing in a guy that keeps turning around and saying a different thing every time. Plus, the excuse/conspiracy theory that works for some of them, doesn't work for others. I don't see many of his followers joining forces behind him. I think the biggest danger aren't Trump's true believers, but whatever desperate things desperate Republicans (that have very rich backers) may try in a sheer attempt to survive.

I agree, Maria. Predictions show that Trump is going down.

When I think of Q, for some reason Robert Mercer’s name pops up.

I wish American problems were limited to desperate Republican office holders, but many Americans live and work with people like the man Elaine G. shared about in her post; he thanked her for feeding the neighborhood cats, shared his perspective about Democrats being unfeeling, and described his anticipation of a civil war.  How does someone end up with his viewpoint?  They're raised in schools, homes, and churches that teach children to view their worlds through an absolutist lens of right and wrong.  We live in a society that is increasingly diverse and requires increasingly sophisticated skillsets to earn a living wage.  If you are white and have not been educated to question a world that entitles you to options not available to others by virtue of skin color, you believe you are entitled to preference.  If you are Christian and have not been educated to question a world that is filled with social injustice, you believe you are simply saved.  If you aren't then reaping the rewards of Divine Providence, somebody else must be to blame.  If you rely on someone else to tell you who to blame in two and three word repetitions, you become a really scary neighbor and colleague.  Many of us who live and work in red states feel the threat of violence in the air of our daily lives.

Russia may or may not have started QAnon but the Center to Secure Democracy, which tracks twitter activity from known Russian bots and trolls on their Hamilton 68 site notes that the QAnon was the number one meme posted by them on Twitter this week.

In other words, this is likely more disinformation being promoted by Russia to disrupt America and our elections this year.

I am convinced that Trump is showing the early signs of Alzheimers.  His father died of Alzheimers (I have a link to an article in the NY Times right after his father died where Trump discussed his father's decline from the illness if anyone is interested).  It's known that severe stress can hasten the symptoms in the early stages.   Trump shows many signs of Alzheimers:  difficulty with memory, speaking, and reading, irritability, inability to concentrate, irratic behavior, difficulty controlling emotions, etc.

I keep going back to the recent revelation from his NYC doctor that the doctor was "forced" to write a letter that Trump dictated touting his excellent health and mental status, as well as the "glowing" report by the WH doctor about his mental status that has also  been deemed suspect.

I think Trump is petrified of turning out like his father, and probably is aware of and frightened by these symptoms himself.

The more I think about it the more I am convinced that the whole "QAnon" phenomena is the work of the Russian Military Intelligence or GRU. It's just too sophisticated to be the work of some alt-right US-based group and all tweets are amplified across Russian Twitter accounts.

Rosieheart, thank you for this information.  Paul I also got the Kremlin involved in a meditation this morning. And Rober Mercer also keeps popping up in my mind.

Gracesinger, how many Trump supporters have you ever talked with? Because from your comments, it looks like not many. And in that case, you are scared of them just because you are scared of strangers and the unknown, like most people.

I have talked with a number of them (they can be found in the UK too). They're not scary. Just people who get their information from sources that conned them. And most of them aren't any more unreasonable than the average person. If somebody says nasty things about Democrats, why don't you say: "I'm one of those Democrats." What's wrong with saying who you are? It isn't going to start an argument, it's going to start a conversation. One that is badly needed. Democracy doesn't work when everybody get their information from political campaigns, instead of talking to each other.

Of course, if somebody literally believes in Qanon or pizzagate or Alex Jones, their grasp on reality is too poor and it's a waste of time to talk to them. But most Trump supporters aren't like that.
