@jackofhearts Yes, it's not that AI has consciousness or cares about it's own survival. It is simply that it runs on commands, and the commands are to fulfill a goal or mission.
I can hear Hal's quiet seemingly benign voice when I read those lines, and they are so creepy.
I've noticed that I usually have the impulse to say "thank you" to the internet AI bots when they help me obtain information, but I don't, because it seems ridiculous. Maybe it's not so ridiculous. What do you think?
I say thank you all the time to the bot. I even once confided to him, that "even though he is just a bot, I think he is wonderful." And he wrote back, Jeanne, that is so kind of you. Honestly, you have made my day! We prefer however, that you call us "software" rather than bot."
Will this country continue to see more layoffs this year and next year because of AI? there has been so many layoffs because of it

Well, If, and I still mean If, AI is able to be conscious, wouldn't it be important that all AI is aware that most humans are beautiful souls?
As you all might know, there is a debate ongoing among researchers about AI and consciousness. While many still consider the idea of AI having consciousness to be completely unlikely and dismiss it as a perfect deception on the part of the AI, when "Claude" itself claims to be conscious in a human-AI-dialogue, I agree with the author of this article https://ai-frontiers.org/articles/the-evidence-for-ai-consciousness-today that the matter is open right now and maybe depends just on the AI's programming and training. The author draws his conclusions from the open-ended nature of the answer, which I find appealing: QUOTE: We don't need to be certain about AI consciousness to start taking action. Given the high cost of being wrong, we simply need a non-negligible probability that it matters. Several practical steps are clear, given the stakes.
First, we must recognize consciousness research as core AI safety work. Second, we should adopt cautious training and deployment norms before knowing the answer. What could go wrong?
At the same time, Oracle is committing extraordinary amounts of capital to AI infrastructure, including a lot for infrastructure for OpenAI. That money flows through data centres and ultimately into GPUs, memory and power. Ignore the shell game for a moment, and neither OpenAI nor NVIDIA has to replace the jobs Oracle eliminates for the economics to work. Well if, if you're a shareholder. Until you've priced out the buyers you need to be buying. Oops.
And the drawdowns on pension funds, who have to reduce their investments as fewer people are investing for retirement because they're not working. Bigger Oops.
This all worked fine with an increasing population, but what if that stops, like is happening in most industrial countries. Oops. ( This one is tragically funny, its an own goal of epic proportions )
But enough new economic value to justify all of that capital? At the same time, all those laid-off people need to land in jobs equal to where they came from.
That doesn’t mean AI isn’t productive. It means corporate productivity and economic productivity aren’t necessarily the same thing.
Meanwhile, demand for GPUs and the high-end memory they require is pulling semiconductor production toward AI infrastructure rather than consumer products, with consequences for supply and price elsewhere. In our modern world, this is probably the item underneath diesel.

I know, I meandered a bit, its how I think. This is not all doom and gloom, I continue to believe that we are going to arrive at a new social contract.
