FYI- new Vax

The new Covid vaccine (2024-2025 version) was just approved and will start being available in pharmacies as early as next week. (e.g., https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2024/08/22/new-coronavirus-vaccine-covid/)

I looked at the vax signup pages of several local pharmacies .  In my location, CVS is offering them starting Wednesday, and Walgreens on Sept 6.  I signed up!   I've been anxiously awaiting this since it's been nearly a year since my last shot and I know several people who've had the virus recently.

Just FYI---I got the updated COVID vaccine yesterday morning.   I feel fine! The only after-affect is a slightly sore arm where the vax was injected.

Newly Discovered Antibody Protects Against All COVID-19 Variants

“One goal of this research, and vaccinology in general, is to work toward a universal vaccine that can generate antibodies and create an immune response with broad protection to a rapidly mutating virus,” said Will Voss, a recent Ph.D. graduate in cell and molecular biology in UT’s College of Natural Sciences, who co-led the study.

Wow, this will be wonderful when the antibody vaccine is available. No more individual COVID Vaccine shots, as this will be a one size fits all. Thanks for sending this along!

Sometimes I wonder whether any scientific progress will be made under a Republican Congress. Will scientists have to hide their research in order to preserve their findings. Will federal research money be allocated toward developing this or other antibody vaccines, or will this be woven into a new conspiracy theory that the government is trying to control you. Sad.

It kind of bothers me that these guys can patent a naturally occurring product-- the antibody.  But money will be the driving force that will get this thing to the market so people will benefit from it.

(Makes me wonder if I'm one of the people who naturally carries this antibody.  I don't know of anyone who mingles with the public on a regular basis who has never gotten sick with COVID, besides myself. Though I'm sure I'm not the only one. I test every time I get the sniffles or get exposed to someone with COVID.  )

@ana Interesting that you've never had COVID despite your frequent exposure to the public. Maybe you are one of the fortunate ones whose body has some type of protection against a severe case? I've never had a diagnosed case of COVID, but then I don't have a lot of public contact.

@kathleen  Either I do have a case of natural immunity, or I've been extremely lucky.  Whichever, I'm glad for it.    I don't get sick very often so I guess I must have a good immune system.

@ana I'm like you. Once every few years I'll get a cold or the stomach flu, but not very often. Knock on wood, lol!

@ana As far as I know, I've never had Covid, nor has my son or my husband. My daughter has not had it until three weeks ago. I don't begin to know how we avoided it this long!
