Oleander is poisonous.
4 facts about oleandrin, an unproven coronavirus treatment reportedly pitched to Trump - MarketWatch
I have read multiple murder mysteries where oleander is the murder weapon.
@lenor Thanks for posting. The article says oleandrin was pitched to the president by Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell who is a Trump supporter (which usually means a Trump donor), owns a financial stake in Phoenix Biotechnology, which is developing the experimental oleandrin product. And Carson, a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, is a personal friend of his. The Swamp continues.
I know. That is the worst part of it all. This was the comments on the story. I hope no one takes him seriously. I mean his supporters will. This is worse the malaria drug he peddled.
@lenor i grew up on an island that bills itself as "The Oleander Capital of the World". It is a beautiful plant, with flowers that smell like marshmellows- but the leaves and stems are full of poisonous sap. Just one drop on a hand that touches a mouth can make a person horribly sick. This idea even is more dangerous than the light bulb suppository idea.
In California the colorful (and deadly) Oleanders have long been planted in the center of freeways because of their tolerance to smog & drought.... they grow fast and thick with abundant clusters of blossoms.
Does anyone know the origin, or any historical medicinal use of this extremely toxic plant? I'm guessing that it's not native to North America ... ?

N.B. No antiviral or antimicrobial actions are mentioned, seems the 2 primary uses are to slow heart rate and induce abortion.
@stargazer Oleander is a member of the Dogbane family, which also includes periwinkles, jasmine, frangipani, milkweed, and the plant that the African psychedelic Ibogaine is derived from. Lots of interesting plants in that family.
Yes, alot of Laurels fall into this ' family ' as well ... though concerning the Oleanders... I've seen horses die from consuming it.
Still a dangerous landscaping plant and used too frequently along fences in California and some of the Southern states ☠️
