I know this is crazy but as I look at the taliban on TV all I can think of is that I bet they have the most horrible B.O. And I bet they don’t brush their teeth either. I don’t know why I even thought of it but I did. They are so creepy and scary (and probably smelly.)
I am 85% of my way finished with my first day back in the office. It was so busy triaging emails, attending a meeting with the department of ed, pretending to actually listen to all the mandatory videos like Bloodborne Pathogens we have to watch every year that I feel like it went really well. Tomorrow is the first day with the new boss (she was at the other district she is director for) so that’ll tell me quickly if the good mood I’m feeling on this first day sticks or flees. A little nervous about that but ready to meet the challenge head on.
Here’s a funny for you. We have locking drawers and cabinets in our offices but no one ever locks them. Well - over the summer someone locked all of the ones in the office I share and while I have keys to all of them, my hanging cabinet key will not turn. This is mildly amusing but perhaps the most amusing part is that’s where I put my cup of pens, and 3/4 of the stuff I need to be productive when not using a computer (which is most of the time but the start of a year involves filling out a lot of forms by hand!). Had to put my first maintenance request form in in 11 years at this building!

@jeanne-mayell I taught 5 years in a juvenile prison and a way to cope would be to find something absurd to laugh at or otherwise you would cry. We also made up crazy nick names for guards and administrators we didn’t like. I guess the BO was my old habit of finding the absurd in a scary, sad situation.
@lenor well, i have baggy clothes and a long beard, but i don't think i smell like Taliban. I probably smell more like a combination of Olde Patchouli and freshly-mown Catnip.
And I bet you’re not scary or mean either. The looks on the faces of the taliban scares me. They look mean, and have no respect for others who don’t believe what they believe.
Extremists all look mean. Look at our right wing. Those folks always look angry and unhappy. Tom Cotton, Ted Cruz, Dick Cheney, Bill Barr, on and on. They all look miserable and like they want to make others miserable too.
I think all over the world extremists share common characteristics. They hate fun, sex, revealing clothing, women. Dancing seems to be an issue too.
Any therapists out there? I'd be interested to know what you think.
