Hi, can’t quite imagine pumpkin flavoured drinks or ice creams etc. Pumpkin isn’t a thing like that here in Oz. Do like pumpkin soup, roast pumpkin, or a pumpkin scone, not too sure about sweet pumpkin items.
Halloween has only recently started to be a thing over the last decade or so mainly because of American films TV shows etc getting kids interested in it and parents trying to make it happen. Naturally supermarkets etc jumped on the bandwagon and you can now get lots of items and lollies galore to hand out. In my village they make an effort with people decorating their houses, if you are going to be involved put out something orange so the kids know they can come to your door. It’s usually only for the younger kids not so much the teenagers. So it’s growing.

Enjoy Autumn as we are heading into Spring and Summer, just hope we won’t be as hot as the Northern Hemisphere was. Will be damp though we are in our third La Niña.

Regards to all, have a piece of pie for me.

The pie pumpkins showed up at the store while my youngest was here visiting. So about 2 weeks ago, I made pumpkin soup. They hadn't had it in some time, and needless to say, I didn't get much of the batch. Not into pumpkin drinks or ice cream, but do like a good pie, soup, or muffin.

For anyone who likes old movies, and the Halloween spirit, this year Flashback Cinema isn't all slasher type horror movies. They are also playing ET and Abbott & Costello meet Frankenstein! Abbott & Costello on the big screen-count me in. Tho I have to admit that A&C Meet the Mummy or The Time of Their lives are probably a little better.

Hi,

Your pumpkin stories got me curious so I had a bit of a look and US seems to have different types of pumpkins to us. We have them all year round because they store well, it’s not something we only have in the Autumn (Fall). Is that the same for you? Looking at that pioneer woman site, I have never seen those apart from the Jarrahdale.

The varieties we have mainly are Kent, Queensland Blue, Jarrahdale, Butternut, Gold Nugget and Dumpling Pumpkins.

Maybe because we don’t have Thanksgiving or Hallowe’en, Pumpkins aren’t as important to us.

Regards to all

@matildagirl

I don't know why we don't really grow pumpkins yearner.  Perhaps some farms do? Interesting that you have fresh pumpkin year round.  We do have different types of pumpkin including one that is great for pie making.  I like to take pumpkin seeds (any squash seeds really) and roast them with olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. Sooooo good!  I roasted spaghetti squash last week.

It is definitely a fall food out here.

My day is now complete as I just enjoyed my first Autumn Pumpkin soup of the season.  (I really need to learn how to make some on my own).

@lovendures

I enjoy pumpkin in bakes and treats of all kinds, including a nice kabocha curry, but I do not like the taste of pumpkin in any beverage. It always tastes chemical-y to me.

I make cran-orange-pumpkin bread for the holidays - delicious with some butter or cream cheese on it for breakfast.

Saw this somewhere today and thought it would be a great thing to share here.

What could you give a 30-minute presentation on with absolutely no preparation?

A few answers off the top of my head:

1. The power of everyday interactions and their ripple effects.

2. The story of unconditional love and the healing power of one goofy dog.

3. All I really needed to know I learned at camp.

4. Rationing for the common family during WW2 in Great Britain and the U.S.

What 30 minute presentation could you give?
