I just heard from a community member who had asked our Circle of Light for prayers for spinal surgery she needed. She reports great results!
Dear Jeanne
I wanted to thank you so much for your group intentions for me in August.
In case you don’t remember me, I asked for prayers/well wishes going into spine surgery.
My Dr. was so impressed, part of my spine (vertebrae) had fused itself just as he was planning to do with a kind of cage to keep them together. I still had brackets added in my low back to stretch my spine back in place (one vertebrae pushed itself completely out of my spine).
I’m moving very well now only 4 weeks out (total recovery should typically be 6 months) and if I’m not mistaken I can do a very slow twerk. My body has been so rigid for so long it already feels like a miracle the things I can do I couldn’t before.
Please spread my thanks at you meditation evening. I’ll join again as seen as things heal a bit more.

@jeanne-mayell that’s more wonderful news. Thank you for sharing. It’s a good reminder for me that positivity and light make a difference. We are so blessed.
I hope this is a good place for this Maya Angelou poem, “When Great Trees Fall”.
When great trees fall,
rocks on distant hills shudder,
lions hunker down
in tall grasses,
and even elephants
lumber after safety.
When great trees fall
in forests,
small things recoil into silence,
their senses
eroded beyond fear.
When great souls die,
the air around us becomes
light, rare, sterile.
We breathe, briefly.
Our eyes, briefly,
see with
a hurtful clarity.
Our memory, suddenly sharpened,
examines,
gnaws on kind words
unsaid,
promised walks
never taken.
Great souls die and
our reality, bound to
them, takes leave of us.
Our souls,
dependent upon their
nurture,
now shrink, wizened.
Our minds, formed
and informed by their
radiance,
fall away.
We are not so much maddened
as reduced to the unutterable ignorance
of
dark, cold
caves.
And when great souls die,
after a period peace blooms,
slowly and always
irregularly. Spaces fill
with a kind of
soothing electric vibration.
Our senses, restored, never
to be the same, whisper to us.
They existed. They existed.
We can be. Be and be
better. For they existed.
― Maya Angelou
WOW! We are all connecting today it would appear. I also read this poem today and thought of our community. It is perfect for our community and all who feel the great loss of RBG. Any great loss really. Maya Angelou is one of my favorite poets. I heard her speak when I was in college some 33 years ago. I didn't know who she was but my English professor encouraged us to attend her speaking engagement. She was like nobody I had ever encountered. There were maybe 60 of us in the room and I was enthralled. Her presence was so strong and commanding, yet so wise and empowering. I left a different person after hearing her read her works and tell of her journey through life.
Later when she was selected to be the poet for Clinton's Inauguration (the first poet to have that honor since Robert Frost for Kennedy's inauguration) I made the first grade classroom I taught watch the ceremony. It gave them a chance to see history as it happened, but more importantly, for me to hear her read the incredible new poem she had created for the occasion. This was before the internet of today and before dvr's. The other first grade teacher thought it was a great idea too, so we both sat our classes down together to watch history unfold. We made sure they had popcorn too.
Maya Angelou was a warrior for women just as RBG, albeit it in a different way.
What an incredible poem you found lowtide.
@lovendures thank you.
It was serendipity that it came my way. What wonderful memories you have of this Queen and Prophet among women, Maya Angelou!
Later, it made me think of the wildfires sweeping the west, felling so many tall and stately trees, the Wise Watchers. And the wildfire of Covid felling so many tall trees of humanity that didn’t ever rise to prominence in our culture but were giants in their families and communities.
So much loss that we are collectively processing and grieving! I pray it all makes us wiser people.
I haven't been on the forum much lately because I'm in the middle of constant pain in my back and arm and I'm working on healing. As soon as I'm better, I'll be back to posting like before, but in the meantime, I wanted to share something that our dearest Deetoo shared with me. It had me in tears and I feel like this is the type of thing that should go "viral". A perspective of someone who believes that if we hope for a better future, then that better future becomes more likely.

@jeanne-mayell sounds wonderful. I will light a candle, or a few, and send those beautiful pure thoughts and light to Joe. I feel hopeful.
I'm not watching the debates either, for the same reason you stated. I can't look at him or hear his voice. I will meditate and pray, then watch the recap afterwards.
BTW, I was so glad when I saw your post about a week ago. I'd been thinking about you and wondering how you're doing. I hope all is well.
