...and yet Republicans can't argue that we stole the court because they would still have a majority (abet only one seat.)
Not necessarily. Clarence Thomas is about to have some serious problems.

@theungamer Not as yet, no, but I think it's only a matter of time as the investigations proceed and more information comes out about who was supporting this. According to one of those articles (or it might have been a different one...I read several), Ms. Thomas - through her organization - paid for 80 buses to bring some of the protestors/rioters to this event, so there's a clear connection to her, and that will be linked to him whether there's any actual evidence of his support for it or not. He had to have known about her involvement, and if he did and didn't report it to the appropriate people, an argument could be made that he was giving tacit approval.
There were rumors in the fall that both Thomas and Alito might be eyeing retirement in the next 4-5 years (I think I posted about it somewhere on here), and if he retires or resigns now or in the near future, it would likely be attributed to that rather than his wife's involvement in this situation.
I should note that judicial impeachments historically have a much higher rate of success than presidential ones...just putting it out there. ;-)
Since Mitch prevented Merrick Garland from sitting on the Supreme Court, it gives Merrick time to be Attorney General instead. Ha! betcha Mitch and Elaine can't wait to see what all he investigates!
@unk-p Mitch prevented Garland's appointment, and then Garland investigates Elaine's China dealings? That would be delicious irony, wouldn't it? ?
@theungamer In a few months, there may be two: Breyer and Thomas.
Wow! Who woulda thunk it????? "
McConnell has said he believes Trump committed impeachable offenses - report
[McConnell] has told associates he believes President Trump committed impeachable offenses and that he is pleased that Democrats are moving to impeach him, believing that it will make it easier to purge him from the party, according to people familiar with his thinking. The House is voting Wednesday to formally charge Mr. Trump with inciting violence against the country.
At the same time, Representative Kevin McCarthy, the minority leader and one of Mr. Trump’s most steadfast allies in Congress, has asked other Republicans whether he ought to call on Mr. Trump to resign in the aftermath of last week’s riot at the Capitol, according to three Republican officials briefed on the conversations.
While Mr. McCarthy has said he is personally opposed to impeachment, he and other party leaders have decided not to formally lobby Republicans to vote ‘no,’ and an aide to Mr. McCarthy said he was open to a measure censuring Mr. Trump for his conduct. In private, Mr. McCarthy reached out to a leading House Democrat to see if the chamber would be willing to pursue a censure vote, though Speaker Nancy Pelosi has ruled it out."
@journeywithme2 of course he does...he goes whichever way the wind blows, and he's probably hoping this will win him some brownie points. I'll believe he's sincere if he agrees to call the Senate back into session before the 20th for the trial.
I also do wonder that with Liz Cheney supporting it and her forceful statement, if congressional leadership has been briefed on evidence from law enforcement that is truly alarming but can't be divulged yet. Then, on top of THAT, you have Trump's speech and his unchanging rhetoric. It's such a sharp turn in the last 5 hours that I don't know if it can be tied to political motivations.
All speculations of course. I'll believe it when I see it.

I wonder about that as well. Congressional leaders have been briefed by the FBI, and Ms Cheney is the #3 R in the House. I suspect there's a lot more that can't and won't come out until much later.
@journeywithme2 You're not the only one who has come to that conclusion, believe me. ?
I went on Parler before they shut it down to see how bad it really was........and its bad. This is easily to the level of al-Qaeda and ISIS online chatter, and thats just the stuff in the public chat apps. Lord knows what is being planned and said on the darkweb. There are ex military tacticians planning breaches and escape routes for govt buildings, they have plans of the tunnels under the Capitol, there are instructions for making homemade firearms, rpg launchers, explosive, and incendiary devices. Its pure madness and completely scared the hell out of me within 10 mins. The worst part of it all is that there many former military and special ops team members leading the charge and all are brainwashed by Q and the qanon insistence that Trump.will stay POTUS with their help.
@mas1581 Good thing Parler was built by amateur developers off Wordpress. The entire database, including deleted posts, was hacked, downloaded and uploaded to an open source server before it went down. Emails, GPS data, State IDs for verified users, even addresses are all available to law enforcement.
I always knew that place would be a honeypot for the FBI.
@sam, also, to throw a wrench in, Liz Cheney is number 3 in the house. Nr. 1 and 2 are tainted by Trump now. By standing up she might gain more power if 1 and 2 are removed... She might not be 'just' as patriotic as it sounds. Just calculated.
On Twitter is an Admiral Mike Franken who states “As the commander of military forces in E Africa, I asked the American Forces Network (TV) to replace Fox news during meal hours. Why? Because they were inimical to America's outreach overseas. Put troops in jeopardy. Made my job harder. And they now have accomplices.”

The following comments were from people in the military on how fox news is radicalizing our military. After reading the comment it made complete sense why military and law enforcement were involved in the attempted coup.
@journeywithme2, I totally agree that Mitch was just following the money. If all of these corporations had not publicly stated that they are withholding R campaign contributions, does anyone think Mitch would have reached this decision?
