About a year ago, I woke in the middle of the night to the song Sound of Silence. It was hauntingly beautiful and I felt it was a message. Like you, I was drawn to the beautiful version by Disturbed and today I've listened to it again. Today, like Deetoo, chills flooded by body while listening and I knew in my deepest self that there is more meaning in the lyrics than I had realized. The Disturbed version is such a powerful interpretation and there is a message for all of us in this moment.
In hearing the song and reading the lyrics today, nearly a year later, different phrases stand out to me:
"Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains"
All of us on this site are people who either have visions or intuitive abilities. All of us envision a better tomorrow and an end to the madness we are enduring. We share our visions and dreams freely in this community of like minded thinkers.
"And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence"
Think about how we share those visions and dreams here: We are talking without speaking by writing on this site. We are hearing without listening by reading each others' posts. The posts of light workers encourage one another and all the people who read here. We are writing songs that voices never share.

Then we come to the closing lyrics:
"And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sounds of silence"
In these lyrics, we are looking at the people who worship their neon god, the Orange One. They are in a cult and oblivious to what is really happening in our country, despite the warnings by all the resistance writers on the Internet and in the newspapers and on TV, and even by the seers/prophets who write on the Internet, the subway walls and tenement halls of the 21st Century.
I really needed that today - thank you for pointing out how the lyrics fit our community of light workers. I am feeling a bit "blue" today. I have been feeling pretty calm lately, that the exposure of corruption is coming very soon and that T and his bad eggs in the Senate and Congress will not get away with it. But today I have felt a little upset about what I can imagine will be his reaction to his "acquittal" by the dark GOP, and right before the State of the Union. I'm feeling a bit angry and sad over it all. Trying to remain positive, looking for bits of light here and there and bam! --- here was your post about the song lyrics.
That song has always been so haunting but now I'll forever look at it in an even brighter than even before light. Thanks again!

I was running errands this afternoon and listening to NPR, as Adam Schiff's closing argument came on. I pulled over, parked my car and listened, mesmerized and flooded with emotion. I was on the verge of tears, knowing how this will turn out. Yet so proud and hopeful, knowing that Schiff will forge ahead, undaunted, guided by the light. As long as we have ethical leaders like Schiff guiding us, and as long as we courageously step up and do our part, the truth will be revealed in the light of day, to restore this country’s sanity and set us free.

It's hard to believe this song was released in 1964. It sounds like something that would have come out later, like maybe '68. My sister used to sing this to me when i was a baby, on her acoustic guitar. So lucky to have been born into a house full of hippies!
