Feeling so relieved tonight. The George Floyd verdict has been a breakthrough for The Great Turning. We are going to see more evidence of a move towards a progressive world.
@jeanne-mayell Even this is uplifting news, the vaccination campaigns still haven't stopped anti-Asian violence. I feel that the ugliness in the US will eventually return to the fringes as people are calling it out in droves.
This morning, I received a subscription email from Daily Kos and found a disturbing case of anti-Asian violence.
Police searching for suspect and motives in acid attack that left NYC woman blind
At the Grand Ave subway train station where my father works, someone got fatally stabbed early this morning. No wonder a detective came to see the camera at my father's workplace. I will post more once more information comes out.
I am glad you father is ok. I hope the detectives can figure out what happened quickly. How sad.
@lovendures Elmhurst is a satellite Chinatown in New York. It happened in the early morning, and my father works in the afternoon.
@enkasongwriter During the site breakdown, you were one of a handful of people, including myself and our developer Dave, who were able to keep posting with no problems. I would love to understand how your device, ISP, browser and anything else connected with your interface with the website might be different from the others. Please send me that information because it will help with our continued improvement of the site's technology to prevent future breakages.
I have been feeling there has been a big turning point lately regarding the Geoerge Floyd verdict, but also with the proposals for cutting emissions for climate change and here in the UK we are starting to see a huge unravelling with the cronyism in our corrupt government which is just getting started. Also, the public had a big victory over the rich owners of our beloved football (soccer) clubs, where they (the top 6 team) were conspiring to form a new break away elite league competition for themselves. The fans protested this and this was reversed. A big win for the people! I have a feeling more of this will happen in the near future - people standing up to the rich elite and these big corporate powers.
QAnon wave hits Japan

It seems Russia is attacking Japan
There is an HBO documentary on Qanon that predicts the leader of the conspiracy group known as "Q" is Ron Watkins, an 8chan administrator living in Japan.
I am seeing fewer and fewer trump posts on my FB and Twitter feed, even from the most fervent supporters that I know of. It seems and feels like most of these folks have finally given up or woken up to the reality of things.
I still see the occasional trump 2024 youtube video though.

I left Facebook entirely because of the overall surge of these people - that was July of last year. I can't imagine what it was like right after the terrorist attack in DC on January 6th. While I don't see myself returning it is good to hear this.
@dannyboy I don't go on Facebook much anymore because I find the social media site boring. I spend more of my time on Twitter as I only get local news tweets and posts of what I care about.
@enkasongwriter Twitter, ironically enough, became my safe place. A lot of my teachers follow me so I tweet a lot of education stuff but after hours it's my "Baywatch Nights" account where I get a little pent up angst at politics out of the way. End of the day though I don't have to see my mother post about how much she likes fascism because the stock market is high, or my wife's white supremacist cousins hot takes on things like George Floyd. (They were big fans of the insurrection, but not so much with the protests after George Floyd)

Thank you, blackandwhite, for noticing this shift. As I go throughout my day, over the last month, I feel Trump has shrunk back to a tiny little guy, gesturing and attacking as always, but I can't hear him any more because he's so tiny.
He's like the kids in Honey I Shrunk the Kids, so tiny we can't see him or hear him.
I also notice that PBS is running WWII Hitler dramas and documentaries, rubbing it in to the American conscience what we were headed for under Trump, lest we not forget.
While I am basking in this new progressive climate, I am aware that the 2020 Census figures now show that due to migration within the U.S., some key blue states are losing House seats while some red states are gaining seats.
This analysis by 538.org helps us to understand how these population shifts could affect the upcoming midterms and next presidential election. I haven't figured it out yet, but I am optimistic about the increasing progressiveness of our country. So even though red states in the south has picked up new House seats, my gut tells me that the people who are moving to those red states are progressives and so the people they send to the House of Representatives won't all be Republicans.

Rumor is that alot of californians moved to Texas (elon musk famously left his home state recently to move to tx) , I have also witnessed this being so that iam a texas resident and seen the slow creep of the enemy, in-n-out burger joints moving in into what-a-burger territory. Unacceptable imho.
Alot of new yorkers also moved to Florida during the pandemic and the shutdown. Not sure if this calculated so fast and was what changed the results in the census.
Either way I do hope this hurdle proves to be benign and that progressives continue spread through the country like wildfire.
A lot of Californians have also moved next door to Arizona, which is turning more blue despite having ridiculous state legislators making majorly idiotic decisions.
It's a relief to see and hear less about trump, but i feel like even if he's old news new people have sprung up to replace him. All over the country you see the GOP acting crazier and crazier. More limiting of voting rights, passing laws making it ok to run over people during demonstrations (calling them riots). Don't get me started on SCOTUS. It's just absolutely insane. Every time you think they can't get crazier they just do. I know that some great minds on this site have predicted positive outcomes for the 2022 and 2024 elections, but i confess to feeling very unsettled about both elections. We collectively managed to hold back anti-democractic forces last November, but can the progress withstand the authoritarian onslaught? I hope so. I really, really hope so.
@lynnventura I know how you feel. We are so traumatized by the GOP's rising cruelty and march towards fascism that has been increasing since 1980, and surged under Trump. I don't have a reading on the coming elections at the moment, but I can say one thing: for years, even decades, I felt a rising threat of the extreme right in this country. Now, I don't feel it coming back the way it was.
The extreme right are still out there and they are desperate to prevent what they see happening now -- a rising progressive grass roots movement that they cannot stop. I agree there will be back lashes to racial justice gains. There will be back lashes to the blue shift in red states, like in Georgia. And the dark money sponsors will pull out all the stops to hold onto power.
But they can't stop what is growing in this country. True, progress will be two steps forward, one step back, in the usual way that all movements progress. But progress we will.
Progressives are on a roll. The people are learning to use their voices.
Women are rising like never before.
They cannot stop us now.
I have seen this shift in visions but I know we still have years to get to where we want to get.
