@bluebelle I didn't realize you were in Washington. Just north of you, and I have been stunned by what's happened there - I expect we're about 5-6 days behind you as our doubling rate is shortening.
Not sure what you might need should it come to that, but we're here. I know the border may close for people but probably will stay open for goods. Don't hesitate.
@D keep fighting forward, when the US (and the rest of us) comes out of this and fixes some of the structural issues, things will change. Yes, the party times may be over for a long while, but maybe the mean gives to more people - and how many of us have been taken part in that party?
While it may not look like it now, I suspect we will all be happier and less stressed/harried.
I hear you on not being made for it, that's OK, none of us are. But we're all in this together.
Be safe
Remember, no anti-inflammatories (including herbal ones) if you have symptoms. It will make the infection worse. Take TYLENOL. Also, it is worth knowing that young people can become infected and then debilitated by the scarring in their lungs for the rest of their lives. Young people have also died. This isn't simply a vague illness or death type of virus. I don't understand why people persist in believing that there are only either mild symptoms or death and that only for the old and infirm. That is incorrect.
Here's a good reminder of why we need to social distance:
About anti-inflammatories:
Anti-Inflammatories are Advil or any Ibuprofen based drug. Never take anything like that for the body aches and fever of Covid-19. NEVER. Take Tylenol.
You mention "including herbal ones" -- what is your basis for that? Do you include ginger in your list of herbal anti-inflammatories to avoid? Turmeric? Garlic???

I believe the guardian and le Monde both specifically mentioned turmeric in addition to ibuprofen. I have no clue about the garlic - I was taking a garlic root supplement but have since stopped.
This article is interesting - not sure if I posted it already. Some good things to take and things to avoid. (For some reason the link opens the article further down the page, so just be aware to scroll both up and down.)
@yofisofi If you know of any herbal remedy, like turmeric, that has an anti-inflammatory effect, avoid taking it if experiencing symptoms. I’m sorry that I am not in a position to be a bit more comprehensive in this list at the moment.
Good call and great advice. We all should be deeply conscientious about giving anything even closely related to medical advice here but we all do.
So do your research. A member of my family works in a very professionally tested company that sells herbs, tinctures, spices and related items. They work extensively with quality control testing in a certified clean laboratory.
Many, many of the products from other sources or the places that create them are selling and promoting products (turmeric and a lot of teas are another) that do not pass even the simplest safety tests but are literally dangerous to use due to high levels of lead, arsenic, pesticides or other toxic chemicals.
Backing this up with the medical links: curcumin - the active ingredient in tumeric... suppresses cytokine storm
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=curcumin+for+virus+cytokine+storm
https://covid19data.com/2020/02/22/heres-what-coronavirus-does-to-the-body-2/

"But during a storm, these cytokines are overproduced, which causes severe inflammation, high fever, and organ failure. In other words, it’s not just a sluggish response to infections that can harm older adults; the immune system’s overreaction to an invader can also kill, Leng said. “The cause of death of this virus is, No. 1, respiratory failure, and then No. 2, probably the cytokine storm.” The good news, as two doctors at the University of Alabama Birmingham wrote for Vox, is that we have treatments for cytokine storm syndrome, which could help save a significant number of lives in this outbreak."
My advice to anyone would be: thoroughly research , check source of information shared, understand the use of treatments at different stages of illness...and make yourself informed choices based on your research and your "gut feelings"
If you see something either recommended.. or advised against.. be sure to do your homework before using it/ sharing it. Just my thoughts on it.
This entire thing about not taking ibuprofen or other NSAIDS for pain/fever during a Covid 19 infection started with the French health minister, Olivier Véran, tweeted: “The taking of anti-inflammatories could be a factor in aggravating the infection. It also included not taking cortico steroids... that part I understand as corticosteroids are used to suppress the immune systems. There are many people who take immunosuppressing drugs daily to manage chronic conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis (my family) our rheumatologists did not recommend stopping those drugs to manage disease progressions but to definitely self isolate at home and work from home (which my daughter and her husband are able to do)
I would strongly recommend if you have any concerns to check with your primary care physician about anything you are thinking of taking.
also.. be sure to read all articles all the way through: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/16/health-experts-criticise-nhs-advice-to-take-ibuprofen-for-covid-19
Public Health England said there was currently insufficient information on ibuprofen use and Covid-19 to advise people to stop using ibuprofen. “Currently there is no published scientific evidence that ibuprofen increases the risk of catching Covid-19 or makes the illness worse. There is also no conclusive evidence that taking ibuprofen is harmful for other respiratory infections,” it said in a statement.
“Most people with Covid-19 will have a mild illness and some people may need to take medicines, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, to help with raised temperature, headache and other pains; always follow the instructions on the label if you do take these medicines and do not exceed the stated dose.
“Patients who have been prescribed NSAIDs for long-term health problems should continue to take them as directed by their healthcare professional,” the statement added.

What is your basis for this sweepingly broad warning against all herbal anti-inflammatories, on top of what we've already seen written about over the counter NSAIDs exacerbating COVID19? (Not trying to argue against this, just seeking information.) Don't herbals tend to have other properties, e.g. antiviral, as well as more well-rounded adaptogenic properties that might offset the issues of their anti-inflammatory effects?
A little good news for us who are stuck at home and unable to go the movies. Universal studio will be releasing movies for on demand download. For example troll movie, invincible man, Emma download would be available on Friday the 20th. Here is the link to the article
Also if you have Optimum they have unlocked the movie channels for free. I have direct tv and saw HBO is available.
If you are unable to go out and get groceries you can download Instant Cart. I don’t know where everybody is but I am on Long Island and Stop and Shop: Effective on Thursday, March 19, Stop & Shop will create hours specifically geared to accommodate customers 60 and older," the company said in a statement. "Stop & Shop stores will open from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. ONLY for customers over the age of 60 who the CDC and local health officials say are most vulnerable."
Always read above all comments to anything others say or have said it can often answer questions more quickly than our reiterating them.
But one thing I mentioned was improper production by even well-known sources as far as testing distribution products at reception site laboratories.
Often things like lead and arsenic are in products just from sources changing farmers or field production for their products.
And yes levels of arsenic are found in soil generally but strict standards require specific minimum maximum levels not be breached.
Others probably have other references or first hand knowledge of concerns.
Obviously most are lab tested and safe so buyer beware and always buy from a certified lab test distribution source.
We have several extremely well respected green and clean ones here in Oregon and other states or countries should too.
But good to question if you don't know or aren't sure just like you are questioning our responses here now!
But sometimes we all just say what comes to mind and don't provide specifically known direct sources or links as we should.
I know these times are really quite exceptionally frightening and so many points speak to so many people.
But is also really important that you know and believe from the inside out that you wouldn't even be at this site if you weren't really and truly far more than you think you are-- or are capable of becoming!
I am 70 years old as are many posters here.
I and many others here have at least one serious immune deficiency disorder (mine for 40+ years with a diagnosis to prepare for a wheelchair within 8 years)
Never happened. I was teaching community aerobics for free 3 years later. Never ever did I think I could go from barely being able to walk to that!
We are here to support you, send love, prayers, and best wishes to you through these times
Many of us have stared death in the face. Many of are afraid. We're all still here and hope you stay here too!
Living, loving and yes, even laughing through each new challenge the best that we can.
You are made for these times!I
hahahaa I already edited that whole paragraph out. Sometimes I am a pre-cog!
I laughed so hard at your comment though! Love you!
I am seriously numerically and spatially dyslexic and having been up since 3 a.m. (past life as a nun perhaps?) So cognitively compromised all week (well a week and a half) with my self-isolaton and lack of clerks to talk to at the grocery store.
I really thought Jeanne had said she was your age which was therefore my age.
Hahahahaha. I needed a really good laugh at myself today!
No worries it actually had me in stitches of laughter too! I appreciate you so much - you are always wonderful! Thank you sweet Michele! ?
Well I was laughing too because a check out clerk said recently to me..you're in your later 70s aren't you?
I'd looked like a 12 year old in college in the 60s/70s but when I hit 65 time caught up with me in decades!
My kids told me "well at least you had a really good run!"
I did too!
???????
OMG!!! First of all I would never have asked if I were the clerk...and you look amazing! (kids say things like that to their parents). Funny thing is when I was young, I remember my grandmother who was in her 60s. She Looked OLD, say 80, like the lady on the old maid cards (but Italian lol). Women today look so young compared to how they looked years ago. Your spirit of light helps you maintain that youthful glow too ? ?
Found this online today, I am gobsmacked that this doctor picked up on the tsunami that so many on here have sensed. Wise words indeed.
Try this perspective shift. Instead of seeing "social distancing" and travel bans as panic, try seeing them as acts of mass cooperation intended to protect the collective whole. This plan is not about individuals going into hiding. It's a global deep breath... an agreement between humans around the planet to be still. Be still, in hopes that the biggest wave can pass without engulfing too many of the vulnerable amongst us." -- Dr. Lindsay Jernigan

On the other hand I am wondering: what if many of us have already had COVID-19 but no one knew it?
To continue with my earlier response to @laura-f's post: I visited my physician’s office this morning to get a test and an IV of Myers Cocktail/Glutathione. My physician is an integrative doc who specializes in lyme, chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS --caused from mold, mycobacteria and biotoxins), autoimmune diseases and other chronic illnesses.
As my IV was being administered, I remarked to the nurse that my husband and I had been sick, on and off, since early December, and wondered whether it could have been the Coronavirus? When I explained our symptoms, the nurse remarked, “Uh – yep! Could very well be!” She then shared with me about the number of patients they had seen in December with the coughing/respiratory/fever/extreme fatigue symptoms, some leading pretty quickly into pneumonia. None of these patients had the flu. It appeared to be a virus that was either extremely difficult to get rid of, or seemed to come back. Of course then can’t prove it was COVID-19 since there was no testing.
I have an appointment with my doctor in early May, so I will talk with him further about it. In the meantime, I’m going to post some protective supplements that he recommends.
By the way – in addition to the doctor’s office being immaculate, they had three air scrubbers going.
Wow. Yeah, I think next year when antibody testing is available I'm going to look into it. Just for curiosity's sake, plus I imagine TPTB might want the data.
BTW my primary doc is still my functional doc from Leesburg - Dr. Lee (yeah I know), I've never heard of Meyers Cocktail - please elaborate. I can't exactly fly back for that, but I can talk to him about it at our next monthly phone consult.
A Myer's Cocktail IV drip decreases inflammation and improves energy. It contains a heavy dose of B-vitamins, Magnesium, Pyridoxine (B6), and Vitamin C. The Glutathione IV removes toxins and supports the immune system. I can get tired after the Glutathione, which is from the detoxification. In fact, I can’t receive the full dosage (5 ccs) of Glutathione – it’s too much for my system to handle.
After being sick in mid-December, I couldn’t shake my extreme exhaustion so I had Myers and Glutathione IVs. They really helped with my fatigue. Dr. Heyman often recommends IVs of Vitamin C when you’ve experienced the flu or any type of severe respiratory illness.
I can bet you could find a practitioner in your area who administers those IVs, if you ever want to try them.
