@lovendures and @bluebelle and Community.  Todays main headline on The Boston Globe is about a Harvard Professor who has been correctly calling the next new negative tropes, including around the pandemic. She combs the Internet White Supremacy websites for hours each day and sees what they are pushing now and then those memes and right wing positions start showing up at the highest levels of government and throughout the Right Wing Cyber sphere later. She predicted the Insurrection to the day. She is now seeing mask burnings coming, among other movements.   The article is worth reading.

I would like to trace the anti vaxers movement.  I suspect it is going to be an ugly origin.

If I start following that professor (Joan Donovan) I describe above, I think perhaps when the right wing politicos in my town start harping on Black Lives Matter being a violent anti Israel group, and questioning Critical Race Theory, and using the term Cancel Culture, I can raise my hand and point out publicly that the points they are making originated in a White Supremacy site and then raced through the right wing political groups.  I am so looking forward to having that opportunity to point that out to them in front of the whole town.

@lovendures I am so sorry. I was hoping we would be further along by now, but people continue to make bad decisions that will keep making people sick for Lord knows how long. I will say prayers for your daughter. I teach sixth grade, but masks are mandated in our district, so that helps tremendously. On the flip side- the farm supply stores in our area are all out of the de-wormer that people are taking to cure Covid. Heaven help us all.

@honeybee

Seriously?? They are OUT of dewormer?  The fear of covid is strong there is panic buying of it but not panic wearing of masks or getting vaccines?

It is like choosing to go out and buy a bikini and then wearing it out in a blizzard to protect you from frostbite.  Choosing that path when you have a snowsuit, snow boots and gloves if you must be in the weather and a warm home with food, running water, a fireplace with stocked wood and matches, fresh and warm blankets and electricity if you are able to be home.  And chocolate, marshmallows and gram crackers to make s'mores.    And hot chocolate, Netflix, great books and puzzles to help wait out the storm.   Oh, popcorn too.

We are way beyond alternate facts...

Thank you Honeybee for the prayers.  May you and all your students and staff stay healthy.  May we protect the most all vulnerable among us. May we all act with love and kindness to our neighbors.  Masks are such a loving gesture.

News form a  school district adjacent to my daughter's and in the same county.  The country wants the district to close all schools for 2 weeks, the district will only close consider closing schools with high amounts of covid.  Right now just high classroom counts.

The medical director for the Williamson County and Cities Health District gave the recommendation in an email to Leander ISD's superintendent. She said the agency has "grown increasingly concerned."

"The incidence rate of new cases for all of LISD is ~135 per 100k, which is about 2.7 times the amount of spread in the surrounding county," said Amanda Norwood. "Multiple campuses for LISD have two or more active clusters on campus."

She said that 43.4% of COVID-19 cases in Leander ISD are happening in elementary schools, and the district's chief communications officer confirmed.

"We're concerned about every student contacting a serious illness, but particularly our elementary school students, because they don't have as many options as our older students due to the lack of availability of a pediatric vaccine," said Corey Ryan.

"This level of spread is unsustainable for a school district and for the surrounding county," Norwood added.
