so it's important to practice spiritual/intellectual hygiene. For me that means using mindfulness/meditation practices to stay grounded and resist the pull of tribalism.
Lest anyone think I'm a bodhisattva, I also struggle with this. Many days I don't do any meditations or mindfulness practices until just before I go to bed. Yesterday I completely skipped any attempt at "hygiene." I'm also inconsistent about limiting my intake of news and opinion, especially now that the covid landscape is changing so rapidly. But I guess the struggle is a part of the journey...
Oh dear!!! A friend I went thru school with , from first grade on up, has reported she and her husband have caught covid for Christmas! Hubby had covid quite severely last year. They are both fully vaccinated and boostered and still caught it!!! They both have headaches, sore throats, coughing plus her back hurts and she has lost some of her sense of smell. Omicron?!?! Is here... and... it's scary that they still caught it!

I am praying they make a speedy recovery. Sending them some prayers.
Interesting interview with a computational biologist. I know, I didn't know there was such a thing either!
Odd link but hope it works:
Helpful article on when to test but, sigh, also on how quickly booster protection fades.

May you all be safe and well. Happy Holidays!
I'm wondering if your dream is food contamination related. Several times over the last few years there were recalls of vegetables, meat and eggs due to e-coli or another contaminant. With Covid, I wouldn't doubt inspections are affected.
Well Covid has arrived at our door. My husband I both tested positive on Monday. We are both vaxed and boosted. Our symptoms are "mild" but the virus is real. Congestion, cough and exhaustion but lessening as each day passes. I am so grateful to have been protected by the vaccines. I can not imagine how horrible it must have been for those who have had it prior to vaccine availability and those choosing to not get vaccinated. Our 13 yr old has symptoms but waiting on testing. We are isolating as if she is positive. She was not eligible for the boost. Sleeping a lot and staying hydrated is all we are doing. My husband is in great cardio shape - bikes regularly - his symptoms are less than mine.
Be careful. I thought we were being careful but clearly it is highly contagious.
@kksali Take care of yourself! You'll be OK. If you don't mind me asking, do you know how you might have caught it? My triple-vaxxed son got it by spending several hours in a car with his double-vaxxed housemate, who in turn probably got it at his restaurant job. (Because of timing etc we're pretty sure it was the car ride when he got the infective dose. )
@iridium
we are not sure where we picked it up. My son’s high school was filled with it. During final exams he had a cough and was sleeping alot but we didn’t think much of it. I work at retail store and wear a mask. I had some cold/allergy symptoms but was attributing it to our live Christmas tree. I think it is hard to pin down exactly where/how. Even at work I am not in close contact with people for a long time. A co-worker of mine may have returned to work too soon. ?♀️
I am so grateful to have been protected by the vaccine and have a mid case.
We aren’t going very well here in NSW. On the 15th December the state government lifted all restrictions, within a week and a half cases really started rising. Restrictions came back but the Genie is out of the bottle, 250 in a day 3 weeks ago is now yesterday 21,151. I am assuming from Xmas Day celebrations.
I don’t think I will hit the tiles tonight for that New Years drink.

The schools are on holiday and kids from 5-11 start getting vaccinated about the 12th Jan. 95% 16 plus are double vaccinated and boosters are rolling out, I get mine on the 19th Jan. 12-15 year olds are about 82% double vaxxed.
So I guess we grit our teeth, be as sensible as we can, hope being so vaxxed generally will make the cases mild for people and hope the little bugger goes ago.
I would like to say Happy New Year everyone but I am not sure if I am game. All I can say is 2022 you better pull your finger out and start playing nice.
Best wishes everyone
Regards to all.
I am sorry there is such a huge increase of cases in NSW.
I do wish you a much brighter and happier 2022. A brighter one for everybody.

Funny. My son said one of his buddies lamented, "We went nearly two years without getting COVID, now we get it and it has to be the version that sounds like a second-rate DC Comics villain."
Heard tonight that the COVID rate in our county is double what it was during last year’s peak period despite high vaccination rates and a mask mandate. An entire family tested positive with only one member having mild symptoms, which to me says that the prairie fire has started. Apparently, the public schools are considering delaying their post holiday start by a week. I felt it in my bones that a delay was in the wind.
Please stay home if you can and wear N95s or KN95s if you can’t. I hope that the conflagration will die out soon. Again, the good news is that vaxxed folks don’t seem to be getting seriously ill, but as I mentioned before in my son-in-law’s case, he was miserably ill.
Oh, and as for the new CDC five day recommendation ?, please isolate for at least seven days. The five day recommendation originally was meant to be followed by two negative rapid tests over two days, which would mean a seven day isolation. But, as Osterhom said today, it is mute because there will not be enough rapid tests. Five days is not science based, just sayin’……….
I have wondered if those who got it were exposed when they weren't wearing masks. That's been my biggest question. Of course, people aren't wearing masks at home with their families. But what about when they are out with friends. @ana, was your son masked when in the car with that friend? Are masks working? Are the breakthrough cases happening when people aren't wearing masks?
@jeanne-mayell No, my son wasn't masked in the car with his friend/housemate. All of the housemates and their core friend group (who hang out at their place a lot) were at least double-vaxxed so no one thought it necessary. And of course four of them live together as a household.
And it hadn't been a problem until Omicron appeared and started evading the vaccine. We were actually more concerned that one of the boys would pick up the virus from some unvaxxed stranger at the theme park they drove two hours to visit, but they are smart enough to wear masks in close quarters outside.
After reading about those who are vaxxed and still got the virus, my question is will having gotten the virus add another layer of protection (natural immunity) in case another variant comes out? Or add another layer of protection against the variants that are out there circulating now.
@jeanne-mayell my son in law wears a mask in school and he thinks he picked it up there. It’s so hard to tell. I’m in NJ and it’s exploding. We are all just trying to be as careful as we can. As we’ve always been actually. Happy new year everyone. Stay safe.

I read an article that said just this. Unfortunately I do not currently have the link to it, but if I find it, I will return and post. Basically it said that being fully vaccinated and then getting the virus will, in a sense, supercharge the immune system.
@sistermoon It would make sense that an infection with a newer version would give you an extra layer of protection. And maybe the current Omicron variant helps that we all get more protected. What I do not yet know, and would like to know, is it better ( if you are in good general health) to get a booster and not Omicron, or just get Omicron.
I had two vaccinations in July, and heer in NL they would like to booster us know.
And does anyone knows if there are people that have immunity against Covid?
