@dannyboy,

Were you singing a song when you were in your thong?

I can't get that image out of my head ...

Congrats on getting shot #3!

@dannyboy Congratulations on your third Pfizer!  What a relief that must be.  My husband and I walked into Rite Aid Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. and agreed to wait however long it took to get our shots.  We were vaccinated with our third Pfizer and out the door in an hour.  Not too bad for timing and our only side effects were sore arm and fatigue.  Sounds like you are going to be just fine.  And thanks for the song, but I can’t get the lyrics out of my head now. ?

I've got my Pfizer booster scheduled at Walgreens for a couple of weeks from now.  I am hoping they consider me in the category "people aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting". It's a bit of a stretch but not too much, I hope.

Well for NSW at least tomorrow, Monday 11th October is Freedom Day. We have gotten over 70% double vaxxed so we are coming out of lockdown, once we hit 80% we will have more freedom but at the moment it is only for people double vaxxed. Unvaccinated are still to be in lockdown. Once we get to 1st December when we should be 90% double vaxxed everyone can go out and about. The theory being the unvaccinated will be protected by the 90% vaccinated. Interesting times ahead. International travel is being brought forward now to mid November.  The other states will do this once they also reach the same % but I think there will be a lot of Angst in Queensland, WA, SA, NT and Tassie because unlike NSW & VIC and ACT they don't have any Covid and opening up their borders will let Delta in. So they aren't too pleased with us. But can't stay locked up forever, the little bugger is everywhere in the world.

https://7news.com.au/lifestyle/health-wellbeing/covid-19-cases-in-nsw-continue-to-slide-as-state-gears-up-to-reopen-c-4195843

"Coronavirus cases in New South Wales have continued on a downward trend as the state counts down the hours to freedoms for fully vaccinated residents.

More than 90 per cent of NSW’s population aged over 16 has now received one dose of a COVID vaccine, with more than 72 per cent of the population now fully vaccinated."

[unlicensed copy removed]

As of today 10th October 90.1% have had their first dose of vaccine and 72.8% have been double vaxxed .  That is for people 16 and over.  They hope that Pfizer will be authorised for use in children from 5 to 11 soon and we will be going on what is being done in America regarding that. Hopefully that group can be vaccinated by December/January.

There will still be some common sense restrictions in place in December

https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/easing-covid-19-restrictions/opening-in-dec

Will see how we go, hopefully people will be cautious.

Regards to all

  • For those who think they might be eligible, Walgreen's pharmacies gives people who are interested in booster, a sheet on which one checks yes or no as to whether they qualify. At the bottom of the sheet, Walgreens reports that they will ask no questions. One could use this information judiciously.

Following your "heads-up", I got a third Pfizer vaccine at Walgreens this morning.  Whether or not I fit in the category of being  "at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting" is debatable ("increased risk" relative to what??) ,  but the pharmacist did not ask for details. I had made an appointment, but the appointments were going begging so they were taking walk-ins.  Upon hearing this, my husband immediately went down and got his third shot.

Then we both told our co-workers, who were surprised to hear the third dose was so readily available and were happy for the information.  So thanks for the news!!

My arm is slightly sore but that's the only side effect so far.  Tomorrow may be different- I'll report.

@tgraf66

Yes, they only have Pfizer at this time.   Moderna and Johnson are still awaiting FDA approval of the third dose for non-immunocompromised people.

My husband had gotten the Pfizer shots in Fenway Park.  A few days ago, he was contacted by the state that he was eligible for a third shot, with a link to follow. Now I have to nudge him lol.

@dannyboy that's good news. I'm so glad for you. I also had a mild third shot experience.  Had some aches but no feverish feeling.   I was relieved. I don't mind aches. I love feeling safer.

Today Dr Fauci reports that Moderna and J & J "boosters" should be available by November.

When you get a third Moderna shot do they give you the same shot as the first two?  Do you have to take your vaccine card in with you or do they give you another vaccine card?  I just got an email from CVS saying they have the Moderna vaccine and that's what I got for my other two.

I got my flu shot today so after I get the third vaccine I hope to be able to spend Christmas with grandkids this year!

@pegesus definitely bring your vaccination card if you still have it so that they can update with the new dose info.

Walgreens would not give a third shot without seeing the card first.  So yes definitely bring it.

@pegesus

My understanding is that Moderna will be using a half dose for their third shot once approved.

It will be interesting to see  how fast the Moderna booster and the younger children doses will be available once approved as those are all smaller doses as well. There will be a lot to keep track of for the pharmacists and jabbers.

For those who have already gotten their third dose and are concerned about these new approvals, let me clarify what I know:

You got your 3rd dose the way you are allowed  get it. There is no issue with when you received it or the dosage given.  What hasn't been approved by the CDC to my understanding is a "regular" 3rd booster for Moderna (like the one Pfizer is currently approved for) .  Moderna would like that one to be a half dose not full dose.

People with other underlying medical conditions are currently approved for only Pfizer.

Immune compromised individuals (who categorized differently than people with underlying medical conditions, even though they have an underlying medical condition)  can get either Moderna or Pfizer.

As I write this, the FDA and Moderna are not seeing eye to eye on a 3rd dose for the general population or any population other than immune compromised individuals. Of course the FDA and CDC didn't see eye about the approval categories for Pfizer either.   We shall see what ultimately happens for Moderna boosters. (Actually, I don't know what is considered a booster or just a 3rd dose anymore.  That terminology is even more confusing to accurately figure out).

From the CDC:

COVID-19 Vaccine booster shots are available for the following Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine recipients who completed their initial series at least 6 months ago and are:

Well what do I know but as highly sentient as you are my guess is that you went at the perfect time to receive the perfect dose for you ?

These dose calculations must surely be based on all kinds of statistics and probability and what not, rather than individual calibrations. Just a thought...

@lovendures It really IS confusing trying to understand when/what/why to get the third vaccine. Thank you for that clarification.

I agree with Marigold that you got the perfect vaccine for your situation. I am looking forward to getting that third shot...just to be able to exhale for a little bit.

Thank you all for your responses!
