Found a wonderful article that discusses how globalization is partially responsible for the rise in authoritarianism worldwide, and how boosting localization efforts actually increases democracy. The author is also clear to point out that the current global right wing/populist movement, while appearing to be anti-globalization, in fact is not. She also offers some real, concrete solutions and examples.

Fascinating read, Laura F, and thanks for sharing!

While this article is extensive, it carries many facts, showing how one thing leads to another.  By the way, the videos are available if you copy and paste the links in another tab.

Reading through the article reminded me of sci-fi stories showing how corporations were in control and waged war against each other.  Anyone see the TV series Dark Matter on Netflix?  That series showed corporations being more in influential power over kingdoms and governments, and corporations demanded to be respected.

Moreover, I remember there were predictions somewhere on this site about us going back to the simpler ways of life – back to farming and localized communities just as this article describes!
