Computers, telecommunications, and the internet moving forward

What have you all seen going forward, with regard to computers and telecommunication? Will tech  continue to be a major employer? Any predictions regarding VR, AR, social media?

This is especially of interest to me and my fiance as our work largely depends upon tech, and I know that this is true of others in this forum as well. I do (and teach) computer graphics, and do web design. My partner is taking up programming.

And also, could there ever be an "alternate" form of networking that's widespread (like MeshNets), but *is not our current social media format* - the way we had in the 80s and 90s with Bulletin Board Systems, Usenet, etc?

This should be an awesome thread! I've been thinking about focusing on tech for my visions as focusing on politics is just too much for me (I usually receive unpleasant and negative political visions. Yuck!).

@D You need to see 'Our Social Dilemma' on Netflix if you haven't already.

Basically what I am asking is what will come of our livelihood, for those of us who work in tech.

This post was from two years ago but a lot of the information I get in my meditations and while I'm waking up is about technology. A lot has changed exponentially in tech in 2 years so perhaps you've already come to some conclusion!

What I am receiving is about what is current but also what we can do to create an outcome that will benefit humanity and the planet.

I have been seeing that globally we need more people that wouldn't normally run in politics to become political leaders. People that are connected and respecting towards the earth and in favour of democracy. This is most specifically in the United States but also applies to any countries that practise democracy and are developing new technologies. I'll explain how this ties back in a moment. People who are humanitarians and believe in equity, peace, minimizing conflict and creating laws to protect the planet would be good candidates to be backed by donations/support for a long term result of peace and continuation of humanity. This may sound simplistic and generalized but if more people who have these qualities are encouraged or financially backed to make it to high levels of politics it would be a great thing!

If you work in technology and you have any personal draw to advocating for ethical technology, now is a key moment for advocacy and new laws. We are at a critical juncture where there is a demand for ethicists that are driven to ensuring equity in technology if it is to succeed in ways that are helpful to us going forward. There is such a large digital divide that has and is causing harm to many. Technology is in a chaotic phase but it is illusionary in that it may not contribute to harmony if it does not have fundamental principles of benefitting all of us. If it is used for greed and power it will not be helpful.

Technological ethics seem to me to be an incredibly difficult road.

My personal thoughts are, it sounds to me like it wouldn't be lucrative to follow an ethicist career path but I have no idea what ethicists make in tech companies. I think maybe that is why the meditations are encouraging becoming politicians rather than working in the companies themselves? but being a politician is no walk in the park. Not sure. Or starting smaller internet operations that are not always connected to the main web? Not sure how that works either or how it would be financed. Curious to hear your thoughts and intuitions on the matter, since I have the programming ability of a fruit fly lol.

Sorry I just realized how vague that was. New technology ethics include: AR, VR, Social media, Biotechnology, AI, Quantum computing, nanotechnology, Brain to computer interfaces etc. There are limited third party ethics and oversight in the United States on new technology and hasn't been for decades.
