@luminous

Hi, I am fine we’re I am, but the Northern Rivers is being hit again. It’s supposed to be raining for the next week at least. Poor old Lismore had just about finished the cleanup from the past record breaking flood with some shops starting to open up and now they are going through it again. Don’t know when this La Niña will go away. Definitely worn out it’s welcome.

Looks like this rain will be around until June.

https://www.smh.com.au/environment/weather/rain-forecast-to-continue-as-sydney-clocks-up-wettest-march-on-record-20220330-p5a98f.html

The latest climate outlook for April to June shows that rainfall will be above the median for much of the north and east coast of Australia.

At least the rain has done something good.

@matildagirl     Given a choice between too much rain and too little, I would almost always choose too much.  In March we had over 12 inches of rain here (north FL) when the normal is 3.5 inches. There was some minor river flooding but no serious problems. (Also there was some cabin-fever when early in the month it absolutely poured for 3 days straight!)

This is not to minimize the difficulties caused by flooding, but all in all I'll take floods over drought.   Rain replenishes aquifers, puts out wildfires, and allows life to flourish (as seen by what is happening to the Australian lake).

Hoping you and yours stay dry while you watch the rain out the window!

@ana  3 days straight would be a piece of cake, we are having weeks of straight rain. This morning the sun is out and will be around until Tuesday when rain then come back. So will make the most of it while it is here. It’s all that grey I hate, give me a blue sky any day. We apparently broke the record for anywhere in Oz since records began for the amount of rain we had in March.

we seem to go from one extreme to the other in Australia with only a year or two in 10 being just right.

I remember reading in 2011 when QLD was having flooding that the amount of rain that fell over Australia stopped sea level rise that year because so much water fell on the land.

Regards to all

Hi, thought you may find this interesting regarding Australian politics. We are waiting for the Prime Minister to call the Federal Election, he is running out of time because it has to be held by the 21st May. Being a bit cynical it might be because he can use government monies for advertising up until the election is called.

The rain is just relentless, we have managed to have the wettest year ever and it’s only 3 months gone, another 9 months to go.

Are you thinking about drawing a crude illustration on your ballot paper because you don't like any of the candidates?

Haha, artists rule! Feeling like if we don't laugh we'll cry, so we'll plow through the best we can. Good luck in your elections.

Apparently they are sending up so many satellites for internet use etc that the light they are reflecting back and the amount of light we have at night in our cities etc are affecting the dark sky area. This is causing problems not only for astronomers, but animals and ourselves.

It also is affecting indigenous peoples connection to their ancient star knowledge. It’s an interesting read.

As with everything we are our own and natures worst enemy.

https://theconversation.com/thousands-of-satellites-are-polluting-australian-skies-and-threatening-ancient-indigenous-astronomy-practices-173840

Research suggests artificial light has negative effects on human health, increasing risks for sleep disturbances, obesity, diabetes and certain cancers.

And it’s not just humans who suffer.

Animals that remain in our cities have disrupted sleep, increased stress and must change their behaviours to accommodate the loss of darkness.

We really need to change so many things about how we live, it’s quite daunting.

Regards to all

Hi

This is an opinion piece by Stan Grant a journalist and TV presenter in Australia. We have an election on and one of the candidates threw in a position on transgender women in sport which the PM latched onto and a cultural war erupted which is obscuring the real issues like cost of living, climate, aged care etc. This helps explain how division is eroding democracies.  It’s worth reading, a lot relates to Australia but it also applies in other democratic countries.

@lovendures

Hi,

I often wonder if what I write and post is OK.  It is usually nothing to do with predictions or spiritual things, so I hope it’s interesting to people, it gives me a chance to think about the world in different ways. As long as it is not boring the pants off people and not too off topic for this website, you might be stuck with me.

Regards to all

Some stories from New Zealand for a change.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/128356024/nz-cannibalism-adventure-game-a-terrifying-success-in-china

Evans and his game studio created cannibalistic adventure game Dread Hunger with the goal of getting about 10,000 players in the United States.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/environment/128421099/a-new-generation-lays-a-cloak-over-remutaka-forest-park

Out towards the coast, a new project is under way to fill in the hem of the cloak, with many hands at work planting, fencing and trapping pests.

😊 @matildagirl   We’re listening. Not everyone wears their spiritual heart on their sleeve. Besides this forum is dominated by Americans… and we Yanks are a bit distracted and self involved these days.  Don’t give up on us LOL. Many of us including myself are obsessed with manifesting Trump & Putin in padded rooms with tape firmly fastened over their mouths. I call it “gentle persuasion” which is as close to living up to my Quaker ancester’s spiritual values as I can get these days.

The king is dead, long live the king.

www.theguardian.com/music/2022/apr/24/this-is-my-escape-scenes-from-the-elvis-festival-that-takes-over-a-small-town

Each year, tens of thousands of Elvis fans descend on a regional Australian town, tripling its population – and flooding it with tribute artists

@matildagirl Keep on writing about Australia, I enjoy your posts. My favorite books are from authors from other countries, especially Britain, Australia and China. I want to do a mother/daughter trip with each of my girls and my youngest wants to go to Australia. So as soon as she can get some substantial time off it will be “Australia, here we come.”!

@lenor Substantial being the right word, we are nearly as big as the USA land wise, but well spaced out. If I can help the lady who really knows how to research find out anything let me know I will do my best.

Try and pick a non drought, non flood, non fire, non cyclone time with sunny days but not 40degree Celsius temperature time. Just kidding. Maybe not. She’ll be right, no worries.

Regards to you and your daughters

Today is Anzac Day here and in New Zealand. There were dawn services around the countries and later on today there will be different remembrance ceremonies around the suburbs and big marches in the the capital cities. Two up is legal to be played today which is the gambling game the servicemen played. My suburb will be having their annual service down at the Cenetaph down by the water at 11.00 and there will be a fly over, the planes will be flying over several events as they goe to Sydney. It’s the first one the public can be at since Covid, we had people standing in their driveways with a candle at dawn to commemorate during Covid and a broadcast from Canberra with social distancing instead.

Its probably the only kind of religious day we have in Australia, we aren’t particularly that way inclined.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-04-25/anzac-day-commemorating-across-australia/101012362

"We cannot change the past. We cannot bring back those lost to the traumas of conflict. We can only support those who did return. We can only honour and remember those who did not.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/300571467/anzac-day-2022-how-we-remembered-them

Anzac Day 2022: How we remembered them (In New Zealandj

Some information on Two up

https://7news.com.au/news/anzac/is-two-up-illegal-in-australia-how-and-where-you-can-join-in-as-the-famous-anzac-day-tradition-returns-c-6566225

Licensed premises can host the game only on Anzac Day and only provided they donate all proceeds to charity.

What is Two-up?

The popular pub game was first played by World War I veterans and thereafter played every Anzac Day in their memory.

Regards to all
