I have seen raccoon families slowly crossing powerlines.  Usually they stay away from humans in general.  They can get rowdy and party with skunks, but aside from that have no real issue with them. I believe they are related to bears, but the food washing behavior they have is fascinating to watch.

I felt sad when I saw that raccoon. I hope he survived the alcohol poisoning

@jeanne-mayell one night I was out in the front yard, talking on the phone to a friend. But I kept feeling a cat, rubbing against my legs, trying to get my attention. But then I realized- that fur was WAY softer than any cat fur (I was in shorts). Turns out it wasn't a cat- it was a baby raccoon!  As my eyes focused, I saw that there was an entire family of raccoons, surrounding me in a circle, watching the baby and me.

So I did what one does in a situation like that- I went inside and grabbed the bag of my Mom's marshmallows and gave it to them.

Oh Tybin, I should’ve explained that it was a happy outcome for Mr. Raccoon. He was picked up by the animal control officer of that town and these are police officers who are trained in animal care. They usually give him vet care if there is an issue of his health and the vet probably gave him fluids. What I know is that he woke up, sobered up and they said he was totally fine and they released him back into the wild.  Of course, the jokes on the Internet below any social media post about him are over the top.

Hahahaha Ha! I know that all the animals love you  And so this story doesn’t surprise me, but it is delightful to read it.

When I was in college, my best friend, who I’m still in touch with today, lived in a log cabin, just off campus with her boyfriend and a raccoon would visit them regularly. It was as if they had a part-time pet. He’d actually sit on their shoulders. During final exams, they were away and let me stay in their cabin where I stayed up all night studying.  At one point, the raccoon appeared at the window and I wasn’t sure what to do. Marshmallows would’ve been so much more fun but all I had was a loaf of bread so I split it with him, but I did not invite him in.

I meant when I saw it a few days ago. Nothing implied for here. Sorry

I found that apparently raccoons are not fans of loud rock n roll!

pretty sure they live directly under my bedroom (this house is raised a couple of feet off the ground)- in which case they must love the reggae music:

@jeanne-mayell I can believe it!!! I had quite a few that were regulars at my old house. This booger would even knock at the back door if the feral cats bowl was empty or the birdfeeder empty!
