Just wanted to share some positive energy. I am in Boston at the moment to visit my daughter. She is participating in her college Model United Nations 4-day conference. There are over 1600 college students here from over 45 countries. These students are challenged to discuss and debate difficult topics from around the world, including the US. The energy here is incredible! Gives me hope for the future.
One of the speakers just stated - we are here to challenge the status quo, we believe real change happens in many ways. We are resilient! With the looming challenges that face us in the upcoming years, it is a bit heartbreaking to hear some of their speeches. However, their energy is palpable, so inspiring.
What position would I like? Since my background is in healthcare finance, i.e., Medicaid and Medicare, I'd go for the job of finding taxpayer savings in these programs without sacrificing needed patient care.
I could save the $800 million that 47 and the GOP are planning to cut but without harming the most vulnerable. The recipients aren't wasting tax dollars. The health care industry is, and they are laughing all the way to the bank.
The US has the highest per capita healthcare costs in the world, i.e., double, yet we are about 16th in quality and accessibility and of per capita care among peer nations. Think about it. We pay double all the other countries, and yet are at the bottom in what we get for our money.
I spent a few years as a Medicaid expert tasked with saving tax dollars. We focused on the way hospitals and pharmaceuticals were reimbursed, not on cutting people from the rolls.
If you (the government), know you can get a volume discount since you are the largest payor of healthcare, wouldn't you take advantage of that? If 47 is such a big dealmaker, then where's the deal with the health care industry? It's such a no brainer since our government is by far the largest payor of health care.
But the GOP has never been interested in using tax dollars to help people. They are in politics to transfer money from the poor and middle class to the uber rich. So that $800 million Medicaid cut they are trying to pass? It isn't to save tax dollars. It is to cut money from the poor and middle class and give it to the rich.
In pharmacuticals alone, T has already raised a cap on what they can charge for drugs. He is literally throwing money at the most profitable sector of the health care industry.
Nevermind, don't want to be HHS director, unless I can pick the president, and have a blue congress and Scotus.
@jeanne-mayell I have never been to Circle before this morning. I was compelled to come about 3 mins before you started. It was an incredible experience and release for me and I needed to hear everything you said. Sorry Im not an on-camera person, lol, but I very much know I was and am exactly where I need to be at this point my life. Leaving this here as a fun thought, and a laugh. I started reading a newer Lee Child, Reacher book. I do like the Reacher character. He may be a tough ex army military police dude, but he always wants to do the right thing. He travels light, unlike me. He carries an expired passport, ATM card, a few bucks, and a fold up toothbrush. Reacher relies on a monthly deposit to his bank account. I would imagine if he were a real person, and his monthly deposit was mucked up, he would want to get to the root of the problem and right a wrong. Hold those who perpetrated this wrong, accountable.
So, long story short, we need a Reacher to right this ship called the USA. If only we could find one...
