It just tastes like sugary baked pumpkin, which is really all it is. So good. I love pumpkin soup!
Did you know you can buy pumpkin spice Twinkies, pumpkin spice Pringles, and pumpkin spice toothpaste? Why you would want to is another matter.
Pumpkin spice is following the bacon product craze. Leave it to people to take two of the best flavors on earth and try to kill them.
@jeanne-mayell Ooo - I just finished watching "Fantastic Fungi". Great stuff! So exciting to think about the possibilities of fungi and the research that is currently being done. I hope it continues. Sure does give one a boost of hope about the future! The medicinal uses alone (treatment of depression and anxiety; adjunct to cancer treatment to make it more effective, etc.) is so exciting.
@cc21 Thank you for the feedback. So glad you watched it! I started drinking a healthy alternative coffee drink which is my homemade version of MudWtr. I had found a recipe on line and it's wonderful!!! It contains cocoa, turmeric, chai tea, cinnamon, and mushrooms! The mushrooms are a blend of about five healing mushrooms. I was careful to buy all my ingredients from reputable vendors. I love this drink. MudWtr is a great breakthrough for people who want to stop or reduce coffee and have something healing for them, but it is very expensive. My homemade version is about 60% less and tastes better, fresher. If anyone is interested, I can post the recipe in a more appropriate part of the forum.
@jeanne-mayell Neat about the MudWtr! I have seen ads for that, but didn't look into the details. I would love to see the recipe that you use for yours.
@cc21 I found the recipe from this woman: https://laurennicolejones.com/how-to-make-your-own-mud-wtr-a-coffee-alternative/
Alternative MudWtr Recipe (you can find your own ingredients but be sure your mushrooms are coming from a reliable high quality source)
- 1 Tin of the traditional Blue Lotus Masala Chai. $18 (3 oz or half cup)
- 2-3 Cups of organic Cocoa 16 oz $9 BetterBody Foods Organic Cacao Powder
- ½ cup of the Mushroom Extract Sacred 7 Powder $45 for 8 oz.
- 1 Cup of Ceylon organic Cinnamon $13.69 for 16 oz, .86 cents/oz
- 1 cup organic Turmeric Powder $5 for 8 oz
- 1/8- ¼ cup Himalayan Sea Salt
- Like coffee, you might want to add sugar and creme. I add cream, lactose-free half and half. You can use any vegan creamer too of course. I also add maple syrup for sweetening it. Maple syrup is more alkaline than cane sugar and is low FODMAP.
Total cost for the recipe: $52 for two month's worth if you have one per day. MudWtr is $40 for one month's worth. This recipe also tastes better to me, spicier and fresher.
Some contra-issues to consider:
- These are not cheap ingredients. If someone finds equally high quality ingredients, do post. The mushrooms are the biggest expense, but I don't want to mess around with low quality mushrooms and these checked out well enough for me. People need to do their own research if they are concerned.
- I can't drink more than one of these drinks a day however without some digestive issues. But I'm very sensitive.
- While turmeric is a much-hailed anti-inflammatory, it may also be a blood thinner.
- An Indian friend of mine told me that turmeric also stains the teeth and I have noticed that it also stains everything it spills upon including my clothes and countertops. Worse than coffee. So I am careful handling it.
- Cocoa doesn't mix well. It settles on the bottom of the drink. Because of this issue, the MUDWtr people send you a small hand blender to go with their product. You add a tablespoon of your mixture to a large mug, then half a cup hot water, then blend for ten seconds. Then add the rest of the water, creme and sweetener and drink.
- All said, I'm enjoying one large tablespoon in a 10 oz cup of hot water a day. But if I were scheduled for surgery, I'd hold the turmeric, just to be safe. I've also been looking up turmeric and am seeing it may not be good for diabetics and a few other conditions, so best to read up on turmeric or ask your medical professional. People should be careful about any supplements they take.
Does anyone have a recipe for sugar-free (or very low sugar) pumpkin pie with a gluten-free crust? I've tried a few recipes for the GF crust, but they turned out horribly.
@journeywithme2, Did you attach a recipe? It didn't come through for me.
I once tried an almond flour crust, and what a disaster. I don't believe it was the recipe, it was me! I'm generally not great with crusts, but I'm willing to try again.
If I could buy a pre-made one with almond flour, I'd do it.
The recipe you've attached looks like a good one. I'm going to give it a shot.
I'll also look at premade nut crusts. Thanks!
@deetoo Very welcome!!! I am seriously considering making this one!! https://cookingontheweekends.com/chai-butternut-squash-pie-recipe-with-gluten-free-nut-crust/
here is a recipe for Cranberry Pico de Gallo I haven't tried it yet, but thought it sounded good. I make the tomato pico a lot in the summer- i never measure anything, bc i think all ingredients in this should be "to taste". I like that this is raw and vegan. And easy.

Is there a good vegetarian turkey alternative foe TG?
"good" is up for question, but one time for Friendsgiving i got the Deluxe version of Tofurkey- it came with white and dark "meat", "giblets", stuffing, tofu "skin", and even a plastic wishbone, lol. It was ok, we ate it all. The trick is to serve it with the best gravy you can make- i used wine or apple juice w fresh thyme and lots of fresh garlic (sorry Jeanne).
and lots of fresh garlic (sorry Jeanne).
LOL!
I will get it. Looks like they have it at Whole Foods. And make an amazing gravy for all, including a lot of fresh garlic.
