@tgraf66

Serendipity! I have immediate access to an orthopedic surgeon who has done this surgery many times. I asked him your question and he said, "Definitely" get the nerve block. Sounds good to me; I don't like pain.

Update: First, thank you to everyone who sent good wishes, prayers, and especially to @journeywithme2 for the reiki. 🤗

My surgery went well, as far as I know. I did get the nerve block, and my doctor recommended that I start taking the pain meds as soon as I was able, so I had the residual anesthesia, the nerve block, and the pain meds all going at the same time. Although I wasn't in pain, that combination resulted in a dangerous suppression of my autonomic nervous system, meaning that my oxygen levels dipped to scary levels. I ended up going to the ER to see if they would put me on oxygen as I was having a severe anxiety/panic attack over it

Unfortunately, the ER was completely full, and after spending three hours there without being seen, enough of the meds had worn off that my breathing has improved and I had calmed down a good bit. I decided to just go home, take 800 mg of Ibuprofen, and wait for the rest of the meds to wear off before doing any more.

Most of the residual effects of the medications have now gone away, and I am left with a pain level similar if not equal to what I had before the surgery. I am still using the ice-water pump 3-5 times a day, but I'm going to try to get through this with as little prescription pain medication as possible. Obviously I will take it if I need it, but right now, I'm only on Ibuprofen, and that seems to be working fairly well.

I am glad you are at least, on the other side of surgery and immediate post op period, so the worst is over. Hopefully, each day your comfort level will improve and, in time, your motion as well.

Sending full-motion-no-discomfort healing vibes!

@tgraf66 So happy you are doing well! Now that you mention it my SpO2 levels dropped to 88 until the  block wore off but suffered no ill effects from it. Mine was done as an out patient and they had me get up and walk (with their help) in the hallways of the recovery room. Keeping you in my prayers and continuing to send reiki for healing. I know you are going to splendidly. Hugs!🎄🙏🏻💚🙏🏻

@tgraf66  Great news! You made it through the surgery and are home recuperating! One day at a time. Stay positive and let your shoulder heal. The body is a miracle! So is ibuprofen! Many prayers, blessings and warm healing energies are sent to you as you recover. ❤️

@journeywithme2 Mine was outpatient as well, but they wouldn't let me even stand up until most of the anesthesia was gone. I really appreciate the reiki; it does seem to be helping, although I had to break down and take the prescribed pain meds this morning. It was going to be just too hard to sleep otherwise.

@tgraf66 Sending more your way!!! Take your ibuprofen every 6-8 hours...to "stay ahead" a bit. Just be sure to drink plenty of water with it!!! Do not be afraid to use the stronger stuff as labeled if you need it and it works for you. Percocet is oxycodone and acetaminophen. Both treat pain. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory. Our bodies are all unique. I am allergic to oxycodone and acetaminophen never helped my pain and of course it doesn't nothing for inflammation. Just be gentle and loving with yourself and allow yourself the time and care you need to heal with the best results. Talk lovingly to yourself, your body. Allow yourself to accept all this healing being sent your way. You ARE worthy and deserving of it!!
