What great news Unk!
I am so happy you were looking out for your mom and saw the problem before it was to late, Really happy you have power again.
@unk-p Glad to hear you and yours are ok. I'm at my apartment, I have power, internet, and water. Just waiting for the boil notice to be over for it to be normalish.
@jsr78 yay! so glad that you made it! I hope that some day when the pandemic is over that we can meet each other, and hang out.
@deetoo I stayed at my cousin's house they never lost power and internet but they lost water.
They still don't have water because a pipe busted above a bathroom. I think they never lost power because that area has a hospital so they probably didn't switch off that grid.
Thanks for asking.
I think tonight will be her first night in 8 nights without someone staying with her for shelter. She has been so blessed to have had water and power through out this time. She is across the street from a small surgical center and Urgent care and 2 blocks or so from a small hospital so I think that is why she had power as they seem to share her power grid.
Today she went on her first food run in in over a week. She still has some left, but her stock pile is getting low. She could not leave until mid-day because the roads were iced over from a below freezing night.
It wasn't pretty. She didn't expect it to be, but it brought back all the trauma from at the beginning of the pandemic when the stores were out of so much. She is very empathic and she knew it would be a challenge to shop through the "collective" stress and I could tell it shook her up a bit.
Her food victories:
-1 bag of Kale
-1 bag of arugula
-1 bag of cut up butternut squash.
That was all the fresh produce she could find, the rest of the produce area was empty. She she took one of each left the last bag of kale and arugula for someone else. No fruit or even an onion tone found.
She also scored oat milk (no dairy at all) and some frozen veggies.
The only meat protein she found was a frozen bag of shrimp and a carton of eggs . Who knows if the store had any other meats to begin with.
She also scored some tomato sauce, a can of tomatos and a little pasta.
She is beyond grateful by how fortunate she has been and at the same time is totally exhausted from the mental need to ration all basic nessisities (water, power and food) and the emotion upheaval and stress.
She is the only person she knows from the staff of her school who had both water and power the entire time.
It is unclear if her school will be open on Monday yet . The districts near her are all doing different things. Some will not open at all next week, some open Monday others mid-week.
She knows when her students do return, there will be a lot of traumatized children in need of healing, yet again. The need for healing has been non-stop for over a year now.
@lovendures sounds like she is doing good, and got some good groceries, too. Those streets in Austin can be crazy steep. When they do ice over, it is hard to even walk around, much less drive.
@unk-p, I am so happy to hear from you! Thank you for the anecdotes about your cats. When the family is ok AND the furry babies have survived, all is well ❤️
Is everything back on or water still out?
@lovendures you must be so worried. It is hard to believe that a rich and civilized country goes through an ordeal like this...
Strength to all of you. ❤️
